Sucks that a ship like the Queen Mary survives, but our flagship is treated like this.
RMSQM was saved after retirement. SSUS did not get the dame treatment after retiring. That's the difference. Even the City of Long Beach at struggled to maintain the Queen but still managed to pull it off. If the SSUS didn't get gutted, then chances are, she would haven been saved.
Queen Mary has a lot more historical significance, but I understand what you mean.

As much as I’d love to see it saved, as some point out that’s a lot of money to not only restore it, but find a new home for it too.
If this would be the fate for it, hopefully they could take important parts of it, big and small, and put in a museum for future generations to see.
Did you know that there are military ships from both world wars that are museum ships? And that is a lot of money because they are kept as a museum and not scrapped or sunk as an artificial reef?
It’s just been sitting there rusting… so at least She has one last use, and that is to help keep the very Ocean she used to sail on alive.

Of course, in fact I’ve visited some of them, especially those from the Second World War. However, you have to be *realistic.* As much as we’d all love for ships like this to be saved, that’s not the fate most have. The fact of the matter is, the money has to come from somewhere and barely any money has been put up to save the ship to begin with.
It’s not a utopia where every ship gets the funds needed to be saved. My point is if the fate of it is at the bottom of the ocean, might as well get some cool stuff from it.
@@FerxeneixeANIMEMANGAHISTORIAYM battleships are valued more than oceanliners. The only reason why the RMS Queen Mary was saved was because of its value for tourism to the City of Long Beach. Also taking note that there is a submarine beside RMSQM but that has long been closed off from the public because of how poorly maintained it was.
Though she will be gone, she will always still be long, still be tall, and be the fastest of them all.
I think people need to be realistic that at this point this may be the only option left her. The conservancy has been at this since 2011 trying to find a way to save her. Modern economics of cruising means she would never be able to turn a profit anymore for what she was originally intended for, and her hull and frame is in such a rundown state that any company that had any idea for her to be repurposed for a museum, hotel, or any other venture has run for the hills once they saw the restoration cost. I think it’s time her fans face the music that while a beautiful relic and reminder of the past, that she just can’t be saved. The only way a ship of this size could be saved given the restoration costs would be if the government footed the entire bill and everyone knows that would never happen. Becoming an artificial reef is probably the last option for her besides being totally scrapped
Better to become a reef than to be torn apart for scrap metal.

at this point there's nothing we can do its really upsetting that this extremely historic vessel is gonna be at the bottom of the ocean i don't even know what to say at this point im even upset as well as this ship holds so much history

Truly, there’s very little historical significance to United States. She was built too late to see wartime service, she was built too late to be in the prime of the ocean liner era, and she was only in service for 17 years, most of which was already as a second tier mode of transport after the airliner truly arrived. Her interiors are gone, her power plant is very similar to those of the Midway class aircraft carriers (one of which is preserved) and the Iowa class battleships (all 4 of which are preserved). Even if one will argue that she’s an example of an ocean liner, which is all but lost to us today, we even have one of those - Queen Mary - which also happens to come from the heyday of the ocean liner and even has wartime service to her credit.
United States has never been relevant or particularly significant.
Well i always wanted to visit the US and see SS United States in person. Such a shame i wont be able to do now :( Such a shame it ended this way.
