You have try Belcanto. They are almost like Spirocore for pizz but outstanding for arco.

Yes, I love Belcanto and used them when I was studying classical music. IME they work well for jazz pizz when playing acoustically, but get lost in the mix when amplified.

    Interesting video!
Have you tried Thomastik Dominants? I recently put them on my bass and I like them a lot. They're like Spiro 2.0 to my ears.

I haven't tried them on my bass yet, but I would really like to as I love the tone Chris Fitzgerald gets on his bass with Dominants. I've heard they are a bit heavier under the hand so that's made me hang back, but I really should give them a try.

How the heck does Olivier get such a great arco sound out of Spirocore? I always thought it couldn't do arco, but his videos just show that it probably was my hands and fingers making it sound awful.

I think Spirocore really do work for arco, but they need a bit of care and due to their clarity are certainly harder work than typical orchestra strings like Belcanto. There's some great orchestra players like David Allen Moore and Joseph Conyers who make them sound wonderful. It's so inspiring hearing Olivier play my bass with spiros and a great reminder that it's all about the practice we put in.

Since he has a European accent, where’s he originally from?
