creates one of the most famous mathematical toys in history that spawned entire world championships created to perfect the practice of solving his little cube, to this day.
Edit: Just because something is mathematical does NOT mean it can't be reduced to simple pattern recognition and muscle memory. Chess is a game of strategy and mathematical calculation, yet the best players ALSO call it a simple pattern recognition and muscle memory game. I did not, I repeat, I did NOT once say cubers solve mathematical equations while solving a Rubik's Cube.

Well to be a little more specific, that cube shown wasn’t the original cube that he showed his class. It was a wooden cube with dots to represent the different sides. And he didn’t just stare at it for a month and then come up with a solution; he worked whenever he could on his day offs or weekends to try and solve this puzzle he made and after about a month of nonstop effort he managed to solve it. One hell of a genius if you ask me!

For all the people wondering how they knew the number of combinations, heres the math:
    Corner pieces;
There are 8 corner pieces and each piece has 3 possible orientations so (3⁸)
And each corner piece can occupy 8 possible locations on the cube
    So (8!)
    Face pieces:
Since face pieces are fixed they all have 1 possible combination
    Side pieces:
There are 12 side pieces and each side piece can have 2 possible orientations so (2¹²)and each side piece can occupy 12 possible locations on the cube(12!)
Now you just multiply them all together which gives you 3⁸3!2¹²12!
But there is one problem with this, what we have calculated is the number of combinations that we would get if we were to take apart all the pieces out and them put them back together, as so the number of combinations you would get on manually moving the cubes If you break it apart and reassemble the cubies randomly, there’s actually only a 1 in 12 chance that it’s solvable.
So we divide the whole thing by 12 to get: (3⁸8!)(2¹²12!)/12
    Which is equal to exactly:
43,252,003,274,489,856,000 number of combinations (43 quintillion)
    Hope this helped 😊❤

One additional piece of info. The cube originally did not have any colors. It was more an experiment just to see if it was possible to have 26 small cubes that could be held together by an internal mechanism where each cube could change position/orientation. Later, colors were added to show the positions changing, and only then did he realize that he had created a puzzle.

@@ethanhunt3553 Since i don't know what method you are using, or what you are averaging this is going to be a more general guide from when you just know the beginner method.
First, learn beginner CFOP. I recommend starting with F2l and practicing it until you get comfortable with if. It will slow you down at first, but keep practicing it and you will eventually be a lot faster then to begin with.
Then you can move onto learning beginner OLL and beginner PLL. This might take a while to learn, but once you learn it you will be a lot faster then originally. Then you just keep practicing this for a while until you get comfortable with beginner CFOP.
After this, you can gradually move onto more advanced F2l and learn full PLL. Learning full PLL is not necessary for sub-20, but I would recommend learning it as it will make you progress faster and if you want to keep lowering your times even more you have to learn it sometime.
After I finished learning full PLL i was averaging about 25-30 seconds. I was able to get to sub-20 by just practicing this a lot, and this is really all you need. After a while of practicing, you can learn other skills, like starting to use look ahead during F2l or becoming dual color neutral. I don't recommend learning full OLL before sub-20, since it isn't really necessary.
But for getting sub-20 this is really all you need, and just practicing a lot. Good luck!

this number is about 517 quintillion.
    this includes unsolveable states.
take a rubiks cube, and dissassmble it. reassemble it randomly. there is a 1/12 chance your cube is solveable. if your cube is unsolveable, you need to change something in the hardware to make it solveable, this could be physically twisting a singular corner or edge, or swapping the position of 2 corners.
the reason it is 12x is because all unsolveable scrambles can be solved except for the unsolveable bit.
3x for corner, 2x for edge, and 2x for permutation parity. a solveable cube needs to have all of three of these be correct.

Hungarians (not all of them living in Hungary)
Invented a lot of items we use everyday
      Here's a list of some:
      Ballpoint pens
      Tungsten lamp
      Sparkling water
      First computer with memory
Microsoft word and excel were invented by a Hungarian at Microsoft
      Electric railway
      Safety match
Color tv was invented by a Hungarian
The formula for the reaction in nuclear bombs was discovered by a Hungarian
Helicopters were invented by a Hungarian
The line that marks the beginning of space from earth was named after a Hungarian (Kármán Line)
Also the concept of washing hands before surgery was also by a Hungarian
The reason some of these are claimed as "American Inventions" is due to the fact that the Hungarians that invented them were living in the US (Mainly fleeing from world war 2)

History Channel just recently featured the Rubik's Cube on their Toys that Built America series, and I love how they explained that month-long death-stare.
To put it bluntly, Rubik started off just trying to solve one side at a time, but he eventually came to realize that the true secret to solving the puzzle lied in, ironically, what the cube was designed for, thinking of things in 3 dimensions.
That's when the gears started turning and he was able to solve his own puzzle. As an added tidbit, when he first tried to pitch it to toymakers, no one would bite because they thought it was unsolvable. Only when he solved it in front of one such toy maker was he able to get the ball rolling and become the highest selling toy in history.
