I'm sorry everyone. I was threatened with action by a company which claimed it owned the copyright. I replied that I would remove it if they could prove it to me, but they just ignored my request. I left it up until youtube themselves removed it "at the copyright holders request".
It is sad when people make claims on rights they pretend to be entitled to. What monetary gains could they be loosing with this video? if they do have any rights. It would be an entire different matter if the operetta was published in its entirety and in HD....which is not the case.
Is there any chance you'd be willing to upload the full video on a site like mediafire or mega.nz? As far as I can tell, there isn't a copy anywhere online right now, and it would be a shame if it was lost completely.
@@drewbakka5265 I love the Joel Gray version. I hate Jack Point looking like a clown or jester, it kills my sympathy for him. He can be as plain as you like but not a buffoon.
@@anniespencer7879bro because you are a fellow g&s enjoyed I am going to give you something g you would never get in a youtube commet: a good faith argument. The joel grey one is poor because 1. They cut a LOT of the songs which is a crime because this is gilber and sulivans best fusion of comic and serious opera 2. Joel grey is a musical performer and that doesn't translate well to operatic singing 3. In my oponion jack point should be dressed as a jester for the first act, standard clothes for the second act and jester for the finale. It blends the face he puts on as an act and his inner termoil Please forgive the spelling errors I am very innerbtrated
I always thought that no-one could do this better than the recording of Martyn Green and Muriel Harding (early 1950s), but this is unbelievably good, so glad I found the clip and I can't understand why you can't get it on DVD. Valerie Masterson is indeed divine David, a beautiful and talented woman. Derek Hammond-Stroud had a very hard act to follow, but exceeded it. This is a class above.
Thank you for your comment. It's not available because the BBC are keeping it in their archive. I can only imagine that they will show it when they won't have to pay any royalties! I have it on DVD but it's the directors edition with the timestamp embedded. I can't make it available for obvious reasons. The director gave a copy to Derek, who then gave it to me a few years ago.
For my money the definitive performance of this classic. Valerie Masterson as an Elsie Maynard to die for, and Derek Hammond-Stroud brought so much feeling to Jack Point
This is good. This is such a wonderful operetta. The end, with this same song, is a real tearjerker. I would like to see this guy's version. I watched another full length version on UA-cam a couple of days ago, and I can't get this song out of my mind. It's a real earworm!
I was fortunate to have seen this when it was first broadcast on BBC TV, and wish I could see it again. It is is an absolute gem of a performance - Derek Hammond-Stroud and Valerie Masterson were superb. I agree with all the replies here and share the frustration of those who are unable to find a copy of the full performance. I've search high and low but cannot trace a copy anywhere.
Astounding version Hard to believe Sullivan went to his grave actually regretting that he would not be remebered for "serious music" but material like this instead. Again, astounding.
This is absolutely brilliant. It's so unfortunate that the entire performance is unavailable, and I can't see how the supposed copyright holder can benefit in any way by keeping it locked up. At least make it available for a fair price.
Would love to know if this operetta is available on DVD. I saw it on PBS in the late 1970s and am thrilled that this aria is posted. Derek Hammond-Stroud gives an interesting interpretation of Jack Point; not the usual patter-song timbre. Valerie Masterson is divine. One of the best operettas by Gilbert & Sullivan.

Valerie Masteron--the best G&S soprano ever.

Thanks for posting, DancairoOpera! I saw this on PBS back in the 70s and adored it. Valerie Masterson's voice and presence are fantastic!

Hi Everyone, I have looked everywhere I can think of for this 1975 BBC production of Yeomen of the Guard. HELP! Thank you so much. Jim
This really is a beautiful love song.
Beautiful song that somehow touches the soul

I too saw this then and have been looking for it since!
It's on Amazon dvd
It's with Celeste Holm and Alfred drake .yeoman of the guard by Gilbert and sullivan
@@paulwatson525 Thank you. I am looking for this specific version by the Dancairo Opera Company.
Absolutely fabulous!! Many thanks for this!!
I'm sorry that the full version was removed. It was the best I ever saw!
I have sung in the chorus of this opera, also the Mikado and Patience.Sullivan's music is wonderful.
Exquisite...thank you for posting.
Wow, wonderful. Thank you for loading it.
The wonderful Valerie.......................
Thank you SO much!!!!!!
Should they have it in full movie?
oh yes please....could you upoload the whole operetta...I really love Valerie Masterson
Where has the COMPLETE version gone to? I'm longing to see it again ...
Why is it that so many people get the title of this opera wrong? It's THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD (plural) not YEOMAN (singular)
They wouldn't even sell the DVD!
Why has the full opera been removed?.
If anybody had copyright to this production it would surly be the BBC
JL
The incomparable Valerie Masterton
I would so gladly pay you for a DVD copy of this. Is that feasible?
Waiting for the whole operetta ;)
Please can u upload the whole opera?
Sing along with elmo
Rolled r's are not English!
Classical singers in England were taught to use a trilled 'r' back then.
