There's a saying that goes, "there's no hurry in Africa "😂😂😂😂
😂😂 being late is a major culture shock in Africa as a whole 😂😂
Good to know, thank you
We call it African time
As a Ugandan I agree 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣not just kenya
We had a meeting with a group from Europe and it was set at 8am somewhere near the coast. By 8am only the outsiders were already set and they were wondering if information about the meeting was passed to the locals or it was miscommunicated
Africans in general are like that. The elements are supposed to wait for them. They have 'dominion' over natural forces
Thank you for respecting the Kenyan culture or betterstill, African culture in general
In Africa, we use our hands in eating most of our meals like you rightly said; hence, the need for a bowl of water and soap to wash our hands
This is great research!
Tom, thank you for loving our African sister
We love you too
Love n respect you Tom for respecting your wife's culture. Wishing you all the best! Joy continue to love n honour your husband dearest. Love from 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I'm kenyan and you've definitely described kenya exactly how it is 👍
Thank you
Same in Ghana, time problem
I used to live in Nairobi in the 80s till 94.
We only took Matatus with nice music and well decorated. Westlands Kileleshwa.💖💖 Those were good times. Evening music from VoK.
🤣🤣🤣🤣it was the “cows on the road” for me!!! Love you guys ❤️
Thank you so much
I'm from America, an the difference between the countries is amazing. I didn't realize that they were that different. I figured they were close to being the same. Thank you both for sharing the different coulters, I learned a lot from you guys thank you. Much love to you and your family.
Hello Nicole, We appreciate your support on our channel. We love you too
I think there's so much fun stuff you remove when editing (bloopers)😂😂 I love laughing! Much love for you guys❤
Thank you so much 🥰
Hahahaha thank you Tom for sharing. I laughed so much especially the part on time and livestock roaming the streets.
Thank you
I like the way you talk about other people's (Kenyan) culture with so much respect.
Thank you, I respect other cultures so much
Very interesting. We have some different things that blew us away. For example I would have pedicure on my list. It takes two hours, in numbers 2 hrs, and ncludes not only Massage of the feet but also of the legs. They rub everything from your feet so you can’t walk for 3 days. Otherness is Kenyans dance in clubs only after they had a load of alcohol, very much like in Switzerland where I m from. I don’t know where in Mombasa you can get a 4 bedroom house for 40k. With time I did not really have problems. People where more or less punctual. Often if you have an apointment at 4 that is the time when people leave their home. When people don’t show up it is maybe because you agreed 2 or 3 days in advance to meet at 4. so the person expects you to confirm the meeting the day you would meet.
Hi Tom, i give you 👍.You are indeed very observant that is our country Kenya. It's very true what you said about tribalism, greatest enemy it's killing us,but this is our country. I love the truthfulness in Czech Republic as Joy stated, otherwise may you stay blessed.
Totally amazing to hear of the difference between to countries/cultures. Thanks for sharing🌟
Welcome, thank you for watching
This is too funny 😂😂😂 Glad you enjoyed the experience tho
Cows and goats 🐐🐐🐐 in Nairobi are Smart 🤓 they know how to keep time but my brothers and sisters they don't 😂🤣 support from usa 🇺🇲
Am Just laughing Tom Pole, litrally African Time its a disease that hasnt been cured!😂😂
😂😂
Tom you are well informed about Kenya and it's culture.
Same in Jamaica, its actually an African thing. Always late 11am is 3pm. Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You have described Kenya from our social life, economic to politic.
I'll explain the empty (or full) beer bottles on the table.
1. It is predominantly a Luo thing, we like to "show off" hoe many we can afford, it's not really how much we can drink or even counting, it's to show off. We like people to see we can pay for maaaany drinks.
2. The cows on the roads of Nairobi. This is because we have the Maasai tribe who are herdsmen and warriors. They believe 2 things. All cows in the world are theirs and secondly all pastures are theirs as well. When their locations go through bouts of drought or lack of rains they move to look for greener pastures and noone can stop them. This happened in the late 90's early 2000s when there was a bad drought and they came all the way to the city. So they are all over Kenya
Thank you for explaining this 😊
IN BISSAU it helps settle the bill without dispute. when customer is ready to settle they just need to count the empty bottles.
My brother Tom ,you are the best.thank you for your love of Africa, how is my sister and Madam Annabelle.have a beautiful weekend.
Hello Irene, thank you so much. Joy and Annabelle are okay
There on tym, tell me 2hrs earlier 😂😂, to avoid disappointment.
I am a Kenyan but I don't like loud music in matatus.
13:23 lol!! Discovering he still owes 2 cows 🤣 I laughed so hard. That was cute.
😂😂😂😂
I think they leave the empty bottles to count what they drank so that the waiters don’t lie about how much they drank. You might be too drank to remember how much you drank and this avoids misunderstandings
I live in Nairobi and rarely see cows or 🐑. Maybe once every 5 years.
Watching from Senegal good morning,I think all you mentioned here applies to all African countries except for the arabs that I don't know about,we eat most of our food with hand, caring stuff on the head, animals in the streets dowry in my tribe is 2cows one is for the bride to be and the other will be slaughter on the married ceremony day and you have to pay cash at least 3000 dalasis and cola the rest comes in form of gifts you give what you have...if you're very poor a you need to do is buy cola nuts and come with your your king' men and explain your intention of wanting their daughter so if they agree you can go with the wife and pay the dowry by installment or anytime you can... services the same I do housekeeping job our salary at maximum is 120 dollars a month so it's like big money for me it covers our house expenses excluding electricity bill and water bill... politics the same you vote for a fula if you're one, loud music the same the difference we have as black African people I think it's our religious but even at that we kind of celebrate everything regardless if you're Muslim or Christian ..
Waaoh! Thank you for letting me know, I really love some African Culture
Tom u're such an amazing son in law/husband.You did well by respecting your in law's culture. They'll also respect you.I bet it also brings the happiness I always see in your vedios. You're such an amazing couple full of love.God bless you
Seriously I love this couple.
Watching from Kenya. The thing l hate most is the noise pollution. Its everywhere....matatus, restaurants, bars, and preachers. We don't sleep! Nice hearing what you experienced. Our major weakness.....we dont have a government to protect us from animals on the streets and noise?
Thanks for reminding me of the hand washing custom. I found it very gentile. I have a fond memory of when the task came to me in a private home.
Thank you very much Tom for saying some of the things things I hate noice. One will be reading and you will not concentrate. Then for having cows and goats in town, honestly those are meant for the village. You also talked about people leaving empties on counters, that's bad. High time we learn to put in crates. The marketing of giving 2 when you buy one is what I don't know whether you will pay for 2 or 1. If for 2 that's unfair. A Zimbo staying in Africa. I left slamming doors. Please learn to close not to slam. Thank you for correction. We will try.
🤣🤣..the cows about time it's true,..they just go home in the evening
Music in the matatu is the vibe in Kenya, especially a new matatu, the loud music and the decorations
😂😂😂
😂😂😂... About the cows, that's true and special. Actually the law allows that. Maybe I invite you to read our traffic act. You can be jailed if you hit a cow or a dog. You have to give it time to pass. It actually goes a long way to explain our culture, respect and love for animals and nature.
Really? Are you talking about India? So there are "cows walking everywhere" . Moi Avenue? Expressway?
We use our hands to eat because we like having a 'personal relationship' with our food.
The animals you saw are mostly owned by the maasai. They are the true original owners of Nairobi. And they bring their herds to the towns for pasture when there is drought in their lands.
But I belief that Kenyans are some of the friendliest people out there. We go an extra mile to ensure a visitor is comfortable. Welcome to Kenya again.
My best couple..Joy and Tom..💯
Thank you so much Liz
I respect them so much
🤣🤣🤣kenyans will still be late even for a job interview
Thanks so much for sharing the Kenyan culture we love you so much guys welcome back.

😂😂😂😂
I love the way you explain our culture so nice and lovely thanks Tom ur one of us i hope u loved that kind taking cows at home na kijiti
About retaining empty beer bottles on the table,we have to know how much we have consumed...Kenya is one country which has the most culture shocks in the world,we do things opposite of the other countries.
😂😂😂 so funny
Ha... Ha.. Ha
For Luos it is also to show your spending power
Even here in Uganda we dont keep time may be it's in Africa
How do people dress in Kenya compare to Europians??
I like your speech and I love to hear about my country actually I'm from Ethiopia but it's wonderful to hear it's wonderful to hear it's the same thing that comes to most likely I like it That was great speech
No hurry in Africa 😀😀😀 with love from 🇹🇿
I love all your channels l have watched so far.🇿🇼🇿🇦
Thank you sweetheart
Cows, chicken, goats walk around everywhere in Jamaica too. Loud music in the busses. TOM we are just Africans
As a Kenyan, I must say that you have made very good observations about Kenya. Weren't you surprised about the culture of bargaining prices in the streets? . For instance, the way hawkers ask for, let's say 1000ksh for a product but will eventually accept 200ksh after a protracted bargain. I live iand work in Czech, whenever I visit Kenya with my Czech wife, she is with the way kenyans scramble to enter 'matatus'
Karibu Kenya tuko na tabia zetu tu🤣🤣🤣
In the US time is very important. If u are to report to work for 9am, they mean 9 am. Or U get fired for going to work late.
You can't take a bottle of beer or soda in Kenya ..unless you have brought your own
Thank you for letting me know
We Filipinos also use our hands in eating especially during parties but the dowry is not necessary what matters most is we love each other.
We are glad to know, thank you
This was very informative Tom, thanks...great job!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing. It's Africa. But animals must be moved from the road. Dowry 10 cows wow Joy👍👌👏👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am watching from a great national of Kenya 🇰🇪 a humble country 😍 love you guys

from guyana it the same
we do not eat Food with our hands
As an African I believe voting someone because he/she same athetic it will not take you anywhere Africa. In my Country (Namibia) we mix our Leaders and it is beautiful. Thank you to let us know all this. In my Country rent it is very very very expensive. We do not like music loudly in matatu we call it "Taxi" young people call it "cab" I never ask why. We respect time, Restaurants very clean. I believe you, Kenyan are clean people when it come for hygiene, but you know, Africa just Africa, there is myb ather places 😮. I love you you 3family and one we are waiting 🙏
Thank you so much, we love you too
Ah.. Happy to know you are from Namibia. It is close to my heart. I lived in the north... Oshakati. Love love loved it.
@@martharinebiseko1457 nice
😂😂our sheep &goats are emancipated....
The Cows, goats Sheeps walking on the streest are urban domestic Animals ,they can read and write, English and Swahili very well ,and Kenya values their Animals beyond measures and no cars can crash them
The empty bottles are left on the tables for the waiter/ waitresses to pick them up because the empty bottles have to be put back in the crates for replacement of news ones except for the plastic bottles and juices...i agree some things are way too expensive than in other countries like am not in Kenya my passport expires in 6 months time i came to see it actually cheaper getting a new one here than back home 🤦🏿♀️.
Remember Tom spent some time in western Kenya. Luos like all the bottles on the table, full or empty. For Luos (and I speak as one, I'm from Alego), we do so more for show, we want people to see how much we can afford. This is very different from the rest of Kenya. If you go to Nyanza Club, instead of lining up bottles in front of you because it's a members club, you are given discs. Green discs for beer, red ones for spirits and such things. The discs are then stacked in front of you like the casino.
Hey Tom, interesting culture in Kenya 🇰🇪. Mostly here in NZ we are on time but you get your late ones too. No animals on streets here like your country fenced in. Only music festivals gather crowds and only night clubs have loud music over here. Most restaurants cafes no music and if so just soft music. That’s probably a good deal 2 beers 🍻 but not here only 1 and bottles will be cleared or even served in a glass. Good for posture carry on head I would imagine and very strong. A good work out 💪🏽. No dowry here. No we use eating utensils 🍴 here too. Rent is so expensive here and buying houses so ridiculous to be honest. Electronic depends on brands on how expensive. Butter we being a nation of dairy 🥛 you would think butter be cheap but very expensive. Got cheap like margarine etc. hair dresser massages are very expensive here. All services are expensive. Elections we won’t talk about too controversy now with everything that’s going on in today’s world 🌎. Thanks for sharing about Kenya’s culture. Glad you embraced their culture. Many thanks to you and Joy for your channel 💕⭐️awesome couple 😜
Hey Bella, thanks for your comment, yeah it looks like NZ is similar to Europe.. :)
I love that you messaged us all that info, maybe one day we come to NZ!
Ooh that cow thing always scares me here in Kenya since i was hit by one when growing🤭

Yes time is very important
Thank you for visiting Kenya
1. Time keeping in Kenya is an opinion, or a suggestion or an about time; giving it an hour or two. Stay open, it only brothers visitors and corporate.
2. Respect the animals 😂, domestic or wild.
3. Matatu is a whole world, Kenyan urban culture on display.
4. It depends on the choice of brand. some come two's. Never 1 for the road, it's 2 for the road always 😭. In my experience Tusker Malt, always in two's Tusker only one. Reason: is to keep tabs on your consumption, 2nd is genuine showoff pride, look how much I can down, kinda thing. On the continent, even with the population difference, only neighbouring Uganda out drinks Kenyans on the continent.
5. The dining, hand washing sink is a gem.
6. Kenya has 44+tribes, after recognition of obscure cultural national heritages. Including Indian Kenyans, Shona (from Zimbabwe) among others.
In Japan people use chopsticks when they cut in small pieces. I get used to it already before I came to Japan as my parents are both Japanese. I use both cutlery and chopsticks in Australia. Do you pay extra amounts of money for tipping in Kenya and Czech republic? In Japan and Australia, no tipping is needed to pay actually. Customer services in Japan are very good compared to Australia for sure.
Those bottles are taken back to the manufacturer even those for soda
Thanks for sharing Tom.
As for African time.
Thank you for watching too
This was interesting Tom!
Thank you
The local stuff and natural foods, fruits, meat ,
Food is cheap in Uganda.
Thank you for letting us know
On the whole yes
And you get a queen 👑 from Africa Kenya 🙏🙏
😂😂.... refreshingly honest. Now that you say these things out loud they sound super weird. Guess it comes with the territory🇰🇪🇰🇪. Cheers
I think rent in Kenya is not really cheap, keeping in mind the average income of a Kenyan. A middle class Kenyan wouldn't pay 1000 USD cause they may earn something from 2000 USD to 5000 USD per month
Hi Peris, you are very right. Considering the average income of a kenyan, that's true, I was referring to it from my perspective. But you are very right in all you said.
U are absolutely right, we call that African time Lol 🤭. I really know about Czech culture now since I have a friend there...🇿🇦well about the dowry... it's a must and heard that in Czech Republic it's called the ( Ransom)
Tom can you explain what job opportunity took you to Kenya ?
Hello Carol, it was a project management
😅😅😅😅 that's really shock music is always our happiness but don't worry welcome Kenya 🇰🇪❤️ shemeji
Thank you Joy
Hi Tom.
Nice observation der...Yeah, it's like dat in all countries. U always get d cultural shocks esp if u are foreigner to anoda country l too got some in my stay in Europe, ltaly...where there was a small basket of hard Bread on d table both at lunch and at dinner!😄
I had sore gum in my mouth actually but after sometime, l got used to it!!😄😄.
So how long did u send in Kenya and were u there on vacation or work?
Tnx.
Also, we Africans eat with our hands basically just like u rightly noted. We also use the cutleries too. Certain meals must be eaten with d hands to enjoy it!!😄😄
Kenyans love loud music in matatu or bus, I myself will only enter Matatu with music and during weekend especially Sunday most houses play loud music. Music is medicine
That's true
appreciated, you must have done a lot digging
Tom that's our Africa time kikikikiki that's too true
I love Kenya
We love Kenya too
Good list!
Tom our elections here in the USA is different than other countries that you just mentioned and mostly voted and between Democratic party which is blue and other party is Republican party
The waiter was slow to collect the bottles
How about the dowry payment in Europe,Tom how do you do it in your own fashion in Europe
