@@frogpog7372 usually for militaries ranks can be broken down into 3 classes, "men" "specialists" and "officers". Rarely will the 3 classes see promotions from one class to another. It really depends on the military you're in. Here's a rough guide for troop organization (a more British aligned structure)
Men are your troops who fight the battles and are lead by Specialists.
Specialists are your sergeants who are outranked by officers regardless of seniority and experience.
(While Lt2 outranks Master W.o usually they will not try to command a senior respected soldier)
Specialists are the backbone of the army when it comes to immediate leadership, experience and military tradition
Officers are usually the planners and decision makers (but leadership in reality depends on competence)
Officer ranks from junior to senior
( Lt2, Lt1, Cpt, Maj, Ltn Col, Col. Brig Gen, Major Gen, Ltn Gen, General , Field Marshal)
Specialist and Warrant ranks (Non-commissioned Officers)
      Sergeant Ranks
      Sgt 3 , Sgt 2, Sgt1 , Staff Sgt, Master Sgt
      Warrant Officer
      W.O3, W.O 2, W.O1, Master W.O
(Warrant Officers are usually addressed as simply "Warrant")
Men Class (lowest to highest ranks)
Recruit (REC)(fresh soldier, hasn't seen combat)
      Private (PTE)(soldier)
Private First Class (PFC) (seasoned soldier)
      Lance Corporal (LCP)(subordinate to Cpl)
      Corporal (CPL)
( leads half a section, subordinate of 3rd Sgt)
Corporal First Class (CFC) (usually a High quality soldier)
You will rarely see anything above a Captain on the immediate frontline
      A few sections(led by 3Sgt) make up a platoon (led by LT and a 1sgt or 2Sgt)
A few platoons make up a company
A few companies make up a Battalion
A few battalions make a brigade
Leadership is usually made of one officer class and one warrent/specialist class soldier
Hope this reference is useful, please do feel free to share. Note that the US uses a different system but shares common characteristics.
