We have to say that we are very happy for you to have visited your teachers last dwelling abode and your hearty wish has come true, and sir even though you are saying that this person was very honest and someone who had a lot of rules,etiquettes, morals, and basically he was a great person all around, and I would like to say that we have seen a lot of honesty in you and great etiquettes, respect for others, morals etc and we place you at a very high respectful regards in our life’s individually, we have seen all these traits in you over the last couple of years watching you on this youtube, we respect and regard you as our teacher too because we have learnt quite a lot from you over this time, but having listened to you about all these great traits in this person it has really prompted a desire to in my heart to meet this person but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be, but their must be more precious diamonds and gems hidden underneath the earth but it’s just that god almighty doesn’t want us to know about them yet and when the time is right we will get to know about them, we can only hope and pray it’s not to Late before we discover them!!!! I had the good fortune of spending summers in Kasauli in the 1970's-it is beautiful quaint hill station with palatial houses from the British days. Many historic buildings deserve a visit including the Church (featured in the opening scene of the movie Madras Cafe) Kasauli Club and the CRI-Central Research Institute. In the British days Indians were not allowed on the Upper Mall Road. Kasauli has had many famous residents- B.K. Nehru, General Harbaksh Singh and Indira Sundaram (Amrita Shergil's sister). I remember seeing Khushwant Singh Ji taking a walk. He was always dressed in a salwar-kameez (pathani suit). Instead of a full turban he used to wear a half turban or Parna (in Punjabi). I never talked to him personally as I was just a kid and intimidated. Sir Teja Singh Malik was his Father in Law. Around partition he stayed in Kasauli as well-he has written about it in some of his essays/books. Another beautiful memory of Kasauli is the Low Clouds-everything is engulfed in a cool mist. The beauty of Kasauli is hard to describe in words. Best season to visit is October-after the rains when the wild flowers grow on the hillsides. The air is refreshing and crisp. No pollution. I did visit this year in March but the hills were dry and looked parched.

Baljit Singh ji, like you I am big admirer of Khushwant Singh. My dad used to read Illustrated weekly my mom did not like Khushwant Singh and called him 'lucha' or obscene! But when I grew I read both his columns 'this above all'&' with malice towards all' regularly . ,(KS earned 7lac per week from these two syndicate coloumns which were published in almost all Indian language newspapers and foreign also. Later on I read all of KS books which are still in my library. I used to write to KS and strangely he replied within two three days as he did with all his readers. I still have all his correspondence with me in shape of letters and postcards. I have also pilgrimaged the Raj Villa two three times like you. Teja Singh Malik was his father in law . The villa was gifted by Malik to her daughter and Khushwant s wife Raj Malik . So the name Raj Villa. The kasauli brewery just down the Raj Villa was once owened by Deyer family which produced world famous Lion Beer for Britishers in India. Brigadier gen Michael 'o Dwyer was from this family

It used to be ESD Kasauli for me as a former accounts clerk in the HPSEB( Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board), Solan, Himachal Pradesh. This place seems to have come a long way since then!

Yes,I agree with you. He wrote in straightforward ways like Sa'adat Hasan Manto. That's why I like him. Initially, Khuswant Singh supported Emergency. Though no one can dare to support Emergency in present day. But, I am of the opinion that Emergency was the fall out of OPEC price rise in petroleum products in 1973. Sir,you are a lucky chap ,who met such personality. Sometimes, I feel sad when remember that Sardar Shobha Singh ( Father of Khuswant Singh) gave false witness against Sardar Bhagat Singh. Kuldip Nayyar and Khuswant Singh were greatest journalists of their time. Note: I wait for more episodes like this.
