When I was 18 I had a Norton 650 cant even remember the year now. It had a magneto for fire, no key for turnon/turnoff, all it had was a fork lock. If it got wet like riding in the rain it would shut off. It ran really well on nice days. Lighting sucked on it, I could not keep the headlight from vibrating the bulb to pieces. Even with all that, I would love to have another one, I am sure they have worked out all those bugs by now, LOL. I like that V4, with out the chrome, carbon fiber would look great. Tvs is one of the most ethical company in india. Despite slowly launching upmarket models they have still stuck in the low end categories where their clientele are small business owners who use their cheap mopeds for carrying goods. They also have the cheapest ungeared scooter for women which goes a long way for women empowerment

Hey Johan. That’s cool, I haven’t had a comment like that. Can’t promise it will always be that way but I don’t tend to cuss a whole lot in my personal life. Glad you like it.
Thanks for the lowdown bud. Very interesting. I always aspired to own a Norton, never had enough spare cash. Maybe the RRP might come down some under TVS. We are still in lockdown here in Ireland, you are lucky to be able to ride bro. The weather has been lovely as well. Ride safe D.Deez.😎🍀
Hey, Jon. Officially we are under lockdown but really, if you have to get out of the house no one will stop you. I have a response ready in case anyone did stop me. “I had to leave to get fuel.” But you’re 50 miles away from your house. “That’s why I have to get fuel!” 😁
Hey Jon, this is a great story and I agree, a Norton would make a great addition to a collection. Here everything is closed with the exception of basically auto related, home improvement stores, grocery stores and banks. So although you can ride, there’s nowhere to go. But we still ride 😎
We seen it with Matchless, Laverda, Harley Davidson, Indian, and all big names in the motorcycle and automotive industrie. Bottom line is always somebody wants to fill his pockets big time using a big brand name. They don't care about their products, just their bank accounts.
TVS nearly got nothing for their money - Only the name ! - ( no office, no production-line and no parts ) - the 961-engine was sold to Jinjang in China and the 650-engine was from the beginning planned to be produced at Zongshen in China ! - Mr. John Russell ( new GB-boss ) has to organise a new plant in GB and bring Norton up again from nearly nothing !
Gunther, how are you man. Respectfully though that's like saying Polaris got nothing for the Indian name. In addition to the name TVS retains headquarters but states they will move it from their current location but keep it in the area. There are bikes already on order from the old regime that need to be delivered but I'd say for 16M, considering the giant that TVS is, this was chump change. What do you think? Can they make a go of it?
Nothing? Those 961's were rife with problems anyway. Ask anyone who owns one. What this company needed was someone who knows how to make motorcycles (box ticked) and pockets deep enough for parts, dealer network and marketing.
We can't ride here in the UK atm due to lockdown! Maybe a rehearsal of the future? Anyway, hope this works out for the Norton name? All the best British company brands seem to be foreign owned!
Every premium company is short lived... Premium in sense like ferrari, lambo...they sure make speed cars and bikes but their turnover is no way near brands like toyota, ford, mahindra, vw etc, and they get sold to these companies in some years... Ferrari is owned by fiat, lambo is owned by vw, pinifarina is owned by mahindra, audi owned by vw,..jaguar land rover owned by tata... Royan enfield by eicher motors of chennai...ktm partly by bajaj, and now norton by TVS
Don't you think that TVS market in the world is expanding very fastly as far as I know TVS MOTORCYCLE company was started in 2006 and within 2020 how can some company like TVS can evolve very fast. Yeah I am having a firm belief that in coming future TVS will acquire the entire market at worldwide level. Hope for the best.TVS provide the best quality bikes at a very affordable prices that's the key reason for the success I guess what do you have to say on this?

@@DirtyDeez It's not surprising at all. Many of the major British Auto companies are in the hands of Chinese or Indian companies and they have turned them around pretty well with both sales and revenue at record high. Take the case of Jaguar Land Rover owned by TATA Motors or Royal Enfield by Eicher Motors, both Indian ones. Now, BSA as well is owned by Mahindra Group, yet another Indian company. Either the Brits suck at doing business (which Indians have a first hand experience) or it's not their time anymore.

@@DirtyDeez I don't know of the buyer but sounds like he's American. your comment didn't help me much. Anyway sounds like Norton is fucked which is a real shame for England.
The situation gives that brand another last crack of the whip look at the new Enfield twins also BSA is in Indian ownership I'm planning to wait it out before I trade in my Tiger and see what new bikes come on to the market rule nothing out let's wait and see what happens.
Many times a great brand will last on the name alone. Combine that with the existing omg know how and advancing technology- it’s going to be interesting to see the revival.
Norton which still has models under production and are non-Indian market focussed will stick to its premiumness for now (just wish that prices become more inviting for others to be introduced to the Norton brand). The Norton brand will still be at a far distance for the Indian motorcylista. Perhaps TVS will use Norton platforms and technology to build their own Motorcycles at a far more affordable prices and keep the Norton brand premium. As for BSA, I feel that Mahindra will launch something which will target to sell 50,000-100,000 a year ( RE 650twins sold 20, 000 in the Indian market and 19,000 all over the world last year) in the Indian and other similar markets, which is still peanuts to the 16 million bikes sold in India last year. So I guess we can expect something around 500-600cc parallel twin to counter RE at prices which the Indian market can still digest and buy 25,000 bikes a year. But yes, I can be totally wrong again.
If they asked Me --- If they asked, "What should we do Mark?" I would without the slightest hesitation tell them to give their stylists a month vacation, and most of their engineers, and just make the 1974 850 Commando only with the brake on the left and the shift on the right. Modern tires, but keep the spokes, dual front disk brakes, rear disk. Maybe - may be make it not leak oil - but really, leaveitAlone!!! Like the Enfield, maybe fuel injection, but the Amals worked for me back in the day. And then sell it through Enfield dealers, for the lowest price possible. It Is The Ultimate Retro Kickass Kickstart Glorydays Break Your Heart Love Joy Love Love Hardon Girl Magnet. And then run the same adds.
Well said all those names are national treasures and I would be very excited if a British company would buy in some British names wouldn't that be brilliant, I only mentioned the Brough superior because back in the day it was said to be the Rolls Royce of motorcycle however well done Triumph nice to see them back and successfully pushing forwards albeit with 3 factories Thailand, still stiff upper lip and shoulders back as they say.
Colin, I'm glad that some good has come out of all the turmoil that the Norton name has been through. In doing this research I found such a great history of its founding and glory days/ domination of the racing circuit. Triumph and other brands surviving is good for us all. I'd hate to see a big name shut down but these days the name and image can survive even in periods of production stops.

Hey Daniel. It seems like low CC is the way a lot of manufacturers are going. I have a theory on that. Part of it is the lower production cost and part of it is people have lost their balls.

What a crazy story! I’ve always loved the look of Norton motorcycles. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
For sure, I have a feeling this story is just getting started. 🤘
It will look even better
When I was 18 I had a Norton 650 cant even remember the year now. It had a magneto for fire, no key for turnon/turnoff, all it had was a fork lock. If it got wet like riding in the rain it would shut off. It ran really well on nice days. Lighting sucked on it, I could not keep the headlight from vibrating the bulb to pieces. Even with all that, I would love to have another one, I am sure they have worked out all those bugs by now, LOL. I like that V4, with out the chrome, carbon fiber would look great. Hope the new company does well, then send them over to the US.
t would be great if they worked out a deal with the US to have more of them over here. They are very rare to see in these parts.
If you wanna know quity of TVS, see review of TVS bs6apache rr 310
Interesting story. Hope the people get their funds back soon.
Me too man. It’s a wild ride for Norton.
Looking forward to hear more news from Norton!
It's going to be cool
Wow, what a roller coaster ride for Norton. It would definitely be a shame if they disappeared for good... Great video, Deez!
I have a feeling there's a lot more to this story that will be uncovered but happy that the brand is where it has an opportunity to flourish.
Loving the up and coming beard dude! Interesting stuff mate. Not sure if they should leave the brand name alone or try and get it going yet again. I’ll be interested to see what TVS do with it all.
Take care and God Bless Johnny Cash!
Johnny Cash is a hero to many for the way he turned his life around. It's a great story, really should make a good movie once the full truth comes to the surface.
@@DirtyDeez JC2 - Johnny Cash + June Carter
They are going to dominate the track for sure
I'm itching to see some good races. Hopefully everything will get back on track soon. "On track"...get it?
Tvs is one of the most ethical company in india.
Despite slowly launching upmarket models they have still stuck in the low end categories where their clientele are small business owners who use their cheap mopeds for carrying goods.
They also have the cheapest ungeared scooter for women which goes a long way for women empowerment
Can you make video on Norton as not many know about brand in india
First time I am checking your Videos .Thank you so much for this good quality presentation . Why ? because I have not heard one swearword . These days people cant even say three words without swearing or using the Lords name . Thank you.
It’s at least good to see them go to a company like TVS who is well established as a manufacturer. It’s a good home for Norton.
India's Mahindra Grup buys Jawa and Yazdi company's and give a new heart ❤ still making retro style classic legend's in present time .
Yeah, that’s freaking insane!
I'm surprised it didn't go for more.
As an Indian i had no idea about this. I didn't even know what Norton Motorcycle was.
You come with the best, juiciest stories. ... keep digging them scoops, brotha !!
Hey brother, thanks. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for all the best stuff. Hope you're doing well.
Indian CEOs and companies kick ass so this is good news. They invest and have a huge time horizon.
Hope Norton come to India so i can have 1 in my garage just like i have a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 boom babyyy
We can't ride here in the UK atm due to lockdown! Maybe a rehearsal of the future?
Anyway, hope this works out for the Norton name? All the best British company brands seem to be foreign owned!
All the best British brands being foreign owned, what’s with that? You can ride to get food though right?
Rode a Nortin a friend bought when we were in Italy back in 1968
I bet it was a beauty
Indians taking revenge 😏
It's pretty interesting from that aspect. The Indian companies know what they're doing that's for sure.

Best examples are TVS, TATA GROUP, Hinduja Family
😜
Ah.....that is not case.
It is just a business thing and I am sure Norton is going to gain everything that is deserve.
@@shivankursharma7999 Actually it is
Brilliant strategic move by Indian to have a large footprint in foreign markets making them stronger overall. I think Bernie Madeoff is gonna be Harley’s new CEO lmao. Oh the irony. #loveallbrands
An Indian company to buy a British one is pretty interesting considering the history of both countries.
Brown Green yes lol. Totally joking 😁
You forgot about the engine Norton Sokd before the company was sold.
The engine Norton Sokd...what’s the scoop

Seriously, it's been Norton in name only for many years! 'Norton' disappeared a long time ago, and will never return.
Rob Frye I know they’ve been limping along but look at Indian who got bought by Polaris. It was a turd and now turd with sugar. Just kidding! They’re making a strong brand of it and I suspect TVS will also. Part of the global way of doing things.
Norton is not a last British motor company, Triumph motor still with the British. According TVS management, they are going to bring more new model Norton bikes soon.
Human, not the last, a last. Not many left but then again, Norton was once under American ownership so no telling what the future holds.
royal endfield went to india a long time ago as well. Sad state for the company to be run like that. I hope they do well now. Take Care
Right on Tex, looks like the British bike set is a shrinking scene.
Good Luck to the new owners of Norton.
Looking forward to seeing one.
Me too
Proud TVS owner. Love my bike. Have got way too many speeding tickets. 😁
Norton is in Solihull now, about 2 mile from my house
Not sure if you mean Indian the motorcycle company in the USA or some company in India?
Be more specific!
Go back to minute 4:22 of the video and you'll see exactly
@@DirtyDeez I don't know of the buyer but sounds like he's American. your comment didn't help me much. Anyway sounds like Norton is fucked which is a real shame for England.
Motorcycle are a part of every country's culture .... Culture should remain alive
Just like Tata, TVS wil use Norton staff expertises for design house. That is where true British creativity cannot be challenged.
Tvs races in the Dakar rally and gets good results
They’re among the best in the business. It will be nice to see Norton back on the tracks, hopefully it happens.

The deal happened so fast from the time they were put into administration that I'm sure it is still making some heads spin.
Tata bought jlr, tvs bought norton, Mahindra bought pininfarina. Indian companies on fire.

TVS group is among the largest business group of india with revenue of over 8.5 billion dollar and employees of 60000.
Can’t trust any business. Sad that the employees got screwed
Yeah man and to mess with old people’s pensions is the bottom of the barrel.

Kin crazy, if that V4 engine does not get mass-produced it's a big loss to the world.

They export both BMW and TVS motorcycles.
They will be have a good reputation...
They will do what what TATA motors did with Jaguar and Land Rover....
Woah there! It's Brough, pronounced Bruff not bro, Superior and they went out of business before WW2. Hardly one of the remaining British motorcycle manufacturers.
Buddy, what is insane here? Buying another British company by Indian company? You should be happy that someone is willing to bring back the company's lost glory and I am wondering shouldn't everyone be thankful to TVS motor? Jaguar Land rover, Corus and Tetley bought by Tatas. Triumph motor cycle was behind Bajaj group.
hello,hellooo..Royal Enfield is an Indian company now . 11:54
Now it's time for India to produce some good cars
companies are falling out, mis-management and greediness.
There’s a line between profit and greed that the consumer sees very clearly. TVS seems to be ready to take the brand into the future without alienating its base. It will be great to watch.

It's sad. I hope that guy goes to jail for a long time. Another one bites the dust to Asia. Triumph is the only major player left in Britain. Hope they stick around. I wanted to buy a Norton Commando. I hope they do not succumb to the low CC only crap.
Hey Daniel. It seems like low CC is the way a lot of manufacturers are going. I have a theory on that. Part of it is the lower production cost and part of it is people have lost their balls.

Indian First, thanks for the comment. Just want to be clear, it’s not about it being an Indian company, some of the best and biggest builders are in India. It would have been the same video had an American company bought it. The surprise is when such an iconic company is bought from outside their country. I have no doubt TVS will bring back Norton’s success and profile.
Land Rover not doing very well at the moment...
Nick Spacey yep I know , it’s majority of automotive industry is not healthy,Range Rover still got nice models very aspiring ones but as u said it’s not doing good
All that's left of Norton now is the name. Still a great name which should be kept alive. It might now be in better financial hands with TVS, than it ever was with typical British management and British unions. The British, of which I'm one, had the world at its feet, and pissed it all away...
Hey Martoon maybe it’s a natural redistribution of resources and I’m all for the best operator taking the reigns but hate to see it happen when it could have been avoided with more care and caution. Interesting tale.
