  • The latest episode of FACT centres around Frankie Knuckles, the Godfather of house music.
Knuckles has been a part of dance music's DNA since the late '70s, DJing disco and soul with Larry Levan in New York. His sets at Chicago's Warehouse club around the turn of the '80s helped define many people's definition of house music, and Jamie Principle's 'Your Love', a constant highlight of Knuckles' sets from the Warehouse (and later repolished and re-released under Knuckles' name), became one of house music's all-time definitive singles, inspiring artists to this day (Animal Collective borrowed the lead arpeggio for 'My Girls').
Recently in London to lecture alongside James Murphy for the Red Bull Music Academy, FACT caught up with Knuckles at Red Bull's South London studio for a two-part interview on inspiration, Philadelphia as a music mecca, and the importance of reading the liner notes. Part two will be posted tomorrow.
Filmed by Anoushka Seigler and Kamil Dymek, interview by Anoushka Seigler.

It's people like Frankie Knuckles that transformed DJing from a gig to a respected professional career. RIP Frankie Knuckles. I danced my heart out in the 80s on dance floors everywhere that played house. Those were the best days for clubbing.

Hello I a student at Kingsborough community college and started a new radio show for house and disco- called HOUSE of Soul-- I have been involved the house scene a long time-- and wanted to know if I could used snippets of audio clips for my show beginning this saturday for a tribute to Frankie-- My show is House Of Soul on WKRB 90.3 FM 11pm-1am-- I would greatly appreciate it
    thanks

Born and Raised on the Southside of "The CHI"👁️🤟☪️ I was there to witness The "Birth of House and The "Takeover of it as it swept across taking Europe by Storm and through it all if I had to pick just one absolutely perfectly produced "Housemuzik track that epitomized that entire era that FrankieKnuckles" was responsible for having HIS "hands in producing that should've went "Platinum"!!! But it didn't, was a song written by a"mysteriousoulful deephouse production team called "NiteWriters" Featuring one of the greatest professional Gospel singers and Choir Directors to ever hold a microphone"! The Legendary Mr. Ricky Dillard...That song is still second to none even to this very day for REAL people it's called "Let The Music Use You"
