Yes, you are right, you are a shit surfer, I'm a great surfer and I have surfed with Ryan Burch at Cardiff Reef, Swamis and Seaside. I surf harder and with more power than Ryan, but Ryan is always in the right place and he catches so many more waves than I ever did on our sessions. Ryan is a waterman, he understands and sees the waves coming in better than the rest of us. He is a complete surfer and a shaper. I think one on one I out surf him...but I will only catch 2 waves to his 10. The man is a machine in the water. Seriously, he sees everything and catches everything. He is a special surfer. He is also riding an experimental board that he shaped which is obviously way too narrow and thin for the waves he was surfing. He would have been much better on a SD Fish in these waves.
That's very cool that you've surfed with him at some great spots! Is he a nice guy to surf with? He always comes over like a lovely guy. There are always those in the water that just seem to 'get it' and don't have to make a huge effort to develop their own style. For instance, I can tell Ryan Burch, Harrison Roach, Joel Tudor, Alex knost etc all apart from about 100 metres away just because of their style. Amazing surfer, good luck with your surfing too!
