I love how the simpler Animation style brought out Gojo's personality. The animation and art style looks pretty good. I’m honestly baffled that there are some people who don’t like it.
The reason for new animation style is likely due to the a new director for the series. Season 1 and JJK 0 were directed by Sunghoo Park. JJK S2 is directed by Shouta Goshozono (Sometimes as ‘Gosso’) in his series directorial debut. His known Directorial work in Mappa is Episode 8 of Chainsaw Man (Ghost Devil episode) and Episode 17 of JJK (Maki vs Miwa). The biggest difference between the animation styles of S1 and 2 are the details. Of course Season 2 is still highly detailed however (to compare), the clothing or hair in Season 1 and 2 characters are less detailed in S2. This a trade off however as less clothing details makes it easier to animate smoother movement, so its likely the new JJK fights are going to be very heavy on movement and choreography.
"WHERE THE JUJU STROLL AT BRO" my thoughts exactly!!! They didn't have them on S1E1 so hopefully they bring them back from E2, they're my fave!! Also, that face when Toji was shown at the end had me ROLLING i s2g 🤣🤣🤣
I wonder what pushes Geto to do a 180 turn on his ideals. Even more interesting to see Gojo being annoyed with the sorcerer's ways of doing things. We are in for some heat this season.
Also that one scene wasn't rotoscoping, it was animated by Kouki Fujimoto, a veteran character animator. He did majority of the character animation for Chainsaw Man.
One detail that I find really interesting about Gojo is the symbolism of his eyes. Because of the 6 eyes power, he literally has the most hyper focused eyes of anyone on the planet, being able to see people down to just their cursed energy, almost like a sorcerer Matt Murdock. Yet, ironically, this makes it very distracting when he has to look at them. As the representative of what the peak of power looks like in the Jujutsu world, he (as shown in this episode) used to have a very hard time understanding the struggles of those weaker than them. He’s so powerful that he can’t even begin to relate to the plight of the weak, or understand why they deserve protecting. This creates a perfect irony where, when his eyes were completely open in his youth physically (as he didn’t rly wear a blindfold and at MOST had some light shades covering his face) they were the most closed emotionally. Yet, in the present time, where he has fully matured as a result of presumably what occurs in this season as well as his experiences with Megumi, Yuta, Itadori, etc. even though his eyes are physically blocked wholly by the blindfold, they are more open than ever. It’s stuff like this which makes JJK so complex in its upcoming material in ways that were never rly tapped into with the first season’s material.
The more simple designs were a decision made by the new director Goshozono and the character designer Hiramtsu. MAPPA gave them an absolute nightmare of a schedule. It's only because of the team and Goshozono's creative storyboards and directing did the team pulled this kind of episode. Also did you know that this episode was key animated by only 11 people. Hell there are only 5 people credit as main animators for the entire series.
I think you're the only reaction channel that noticed that they indeed did not break out of the buidling, Gojo just destroyed it lmao. The manga did a better job showing it cause it showed it get destroyed before they actually started running lol
