Just heard back from Reinhold, and he had this to add: 1) These enclosures hold up to almost 4 inches of substrate. The height of the bottom part (the tray) isn’t the limit of substrate. Even if there is water going through the edges of the side parts, it’s ending up inside the watertight tray, because all the side parts are inside the tray. No need to put silicon, they are absolutely watertight even with 4 inches of substrate… 2) The doors aren’t made of acrylic, they are made of a polycarbonate named "Makrolon“. This is practically unbreakable (for instance used for motorcycle helmet visors), so the small hinge parts doesn’t matter. They won’t break. It also has the advantage that it doesn’t warp, no matter how much humidity there is…
I think even tho the lid is strong enough, it's still a very big lid. When you open it all the way back, someone can accidentally bump it and flip the whole enclosure. Opening it halfway like a car bonnet/hood and hold it with a prop rod is probably a much safer design. That being said, those are very good looking and well designed enclosures. For those who can afford them will be very satisfied.

We do have Zilla micro habitats, I use the large arboreal one for my P.regalis. But the terrestrial one has a lid that partially goes inside of the enclosure when opening, atleast that's what I saw on Kat's channel. Thank you for the video!
Hello, Chelsea! I'm on the lookout for folks that sell this type of stuff in Canada. A buddy of mine was making them for a while, but I don't know if he is in business anymore. Thank you !

Hello, Wayne! Thank you so much. I'm putting together a video about her, so that'll be out eventually. I'm still pretty bummed about it, although she was likely in her 30s, so she lived a very long life.
@@TomsBigSpiders it's insane when you think about it that a spider can live over 30 years but she had a wonderful life with you and Billie have you thought about preserving her so that you will always have her with you.
I tell you, I've been waiting for a enclosure just like that terrestrial. idk if that's it though. I'll have to try it out and some point for sure. I want a enclosure that I can set the substrate up on an angle. the issue for me is I want something DEEP. this isn't a knock on these bc they look amazing. I just want to try and set up a few species like they are found in the wild, which is on slopes. even when I go looking for T's in AZ, I find a lot of burrows on slopes. not all, but most. idk. its just something I've been wanting to do with a enclosure that's built just like the one in the video. I just don't know if its WXACTLY what I had in mind. either way I definitely want to try it out. thx for the awesome info on some cool cages :)
I totally get it, Damien! That's one of the reasons that I mentioned the depth of the substrate dam. I, too, want something that allows me to load up the substrate. I've been doing some of the sloping burrows lately as well, and I really like the way that it looks (and the spiders seem to like them). Thanks again!
I am in love with these enclosures! I really hope they can find a US distributor! Tom, do you know if we have anything similar to the angled-top terrestrial enclosure available in the states at this point? That's a design I haven't seen before, but I really like it.
Hi, Melanie! Yeah, I really want to get some more of these. The angled ones are so cool. I haven't seen anything like them in the States, unfortunately.
The Zilla enclosures are nice, but not particularly sturdy. I have a juvie avic in it, but I don't think I'd trust it with a psalmo or tappy. Great video, love seeing the T shelves in the background as you work!
I still have to check those out. I'm not a huge fan of the rubber bands, so I've been holding off. That said, I can't knock them until I try them! haha Thanks for the heads up. :)
You said they could warp when they get wet....did you mean to say when they get really hot?? That is what I am assuming. Another great video, awesome enclosures...thanks for your effort Tom, you are one of the best.
Hi, Rick! No, when they get damp or have moisture inside. They can actually absorb moisture, and what happens is it gets into the acrylic and causes it to curl. I've had it happen in the cooler winter months when the temps are lower. That said, I do know that putting a heat mat on one can damage it as well, so heat isn't good for them either. Thanks so much!
but is it available in canada? i love ALL the acrylic enclosures but pretty limited here to critter keepers and sterilite. i don't think tarantula cribs even ship here.
@@TomsBigSpiders I've got a GBB I was thinking of putting in that slanted front terrestrial as well but I'm wondering if that species would be better off in one of their traditional 12x12x12. Am I over thinking it?
Hey, Andrew! Good eye! I think that one is an old Parker that I got in the '80s. I bought it off a kid on the bus for $10. hahaha I DO have a newer Benchmade though!
Hello, David! I think that it would depend on what country you were shipping to. They don't normally ship to the US, so shipping was VERY expensive (around 70).
@@TomsBigSpiders Aw she loved Queenie too. That is so sweet. I didn't know she passed until this last video. Perhaps I didn't hear it on the one before. She must have been over 20 years, no?
Hey Tom! Silly question, what is your take on keeping an Avicularia species in a bird cage? Maybe in a room with a humidifier? I don't know, I just saw some cages last time I was at a pet store and thought "hmmm, would that work for an arboreal who needs plenty of ventilation?" My fiance is dead set against it. Your basically her tarantula hero though so I figured I would get your take on the subject. Thanks! P.s. she listens to your podcast every day on her way to work, so if you were to answer this on your next podcast that would be awesome/hilarious.
Hey, Kyle! Hmmmm...that's a new one. What are these birdcages made of? How big are the gaps in the bars? My gut would tell me that it wouldn't work well, but I honestly don't know what the birdcages look like that your're considering. And I can definitely talk about it on Sunday! Please tell your fiance that I said hello!
Hello, lootscorpses. Thank you so much. I buried her; that's what I've always done with my pets. It would just be weird for me to preserve her. It's just not my thing. :(

@@TomsBigSpiders These look awesome, please update vid, or make a new one if/when they find one. I like the look of these and think I would trust them over the similar rubber band ones.
Nice looking enclosures, i just started designing and making my own enclosures, just for self use as we really dont have much of anything here. Yes i am using glass as its cheap and can be pre cut to what i want, even with the extra costs to vents and hinges, in the end its ridiculously cheaper than acrylic a 10th of the price. Just rehoused my regalis in my 1st ever self made one and it works beautifully and looks great.
Hey, Shawn! One of these days I'll get around to playing with the glass. I'm dying to try designing something. It's just with my collection and all the TBS stuff, I have limited time to play around.
Hey Tom I just finish your potcast today. The problem with "H" is really people over conversating with those kind of thing. Like everyting with a creature thats a little bit different to a dog. I love this hole "Tom likes in winter to go in his hole" comparison :D it has make me laugh on my e-bike Short update I got a H. devamatha (2cm body) so beatiful and fast XD for my first asian I got it easy and "chill" rehouse. She gave me threat pose and I flipt over her container and removed it after she touched the dirt and closed it of. She was bigger than expected and was first a lttle bit worried in the first. She made her burrow and I got a shot from her eating
Hello, Micha! Thanks so much for commenting. I got two more questions today about "ideal humidity" and one asking why I don't keep my spiders at their "optimal temperatures." haha It'll never end. I'm so glad to hear that your H. devamatha is doing well!
Hi, Stacey! Yeah, someone explained that the Brexit situation has made it more expensive and difficult for you guys to get stuff from the rest of Europe.
I order from these guys frequently and while shipping is a little slower now, it's still been pretty efficient and fairly priced, especially if you are grabbing a few enclosures at once. Haven't got stung for any import duties yet....
Just looked at their website and it's awesome, they have made it really well. But the price....man... I can get glass enclosures same size with cross ventilation and a background for 70% less money. Too much...
ua-cam.com/video/aOGSe5op370/v-deo.html You don't have to apologize to me. As I stated in the video. I'm just letting folks know that they're out there. Whether or not they are worth it is totally up to the individual.
Damn. Those are from germany? No wonder, no one buys them here. Those are hell overpriced. And I still go with my costum enclosures. And even with my specific requirements I can get it way cheaper.
@@TomsBigSpiders I understand you. And this is only my view from germany. Here we don't need them, cause the custom builder are way cheaper with mostly better quality. Even exo terra can't compete with them. But I always wonder, If you have costum builder too, because I only see exo terra and acryl enclousures.
TL;DR: You can get most acrylic enclosures really cheap from the producer and I rant about people selling instead of showing/teaching I feel like there's a flood of new acrylic enclosures for tarantulas on the market now, which seems cool at first. The part that I dont like is that you can find most of these enclosures on alibaba for around a third or forth of the cost. Yes, there are still logistics and shipping that need to be paid, but I still feel kinda negative towards these new shops for acrylic enclosures. You can even get these shipped in small numbers like 5 and let the producer engrave them with your own logo/name/whatever for no extra cost. I dont know if this exact enclosure is also on alibaba or other big marketplaces, the point for me is that more and more people smell money in this hobby and it's slowly drifting away from "here, let me show you how to do it or how to get or build this or that enclosure" to "oh I found this new thing, maybe I can sell it and make money off of it" I know it's capitalism and legit, but that was just a part of the hobby and the community that I really loved and I see declining more and more.
Sorry, TL;DR. ;) Just kidding! Well, let this serve as my reply: ua-cam.com/video/aOGSe5op370/v-deo.html A couple points: A) A lot of people aren't handy and don't mind paying for something so that they don't have to do it themselves. I've worked with acrylic; it's not easy, and I am handy. B) Sooo, you're ranting because I'm not "teaching" or showing people how to make them, but then you talk about ording them from Alibaba. So, would you be okay with me showing off cheap made in china enclosures from Alibaba? I'm not sure that I get your logic here. If you have links to those, I would be happy to buy some to review them. Again, I've had people asking me for months if I knew of any acrylic enclosures in Europe, and I was happy when I found these. I paid for them, I get nothing for showing them off, and keep in mind that I don't even have ads on my channel. I honestly don't think that I deserved the rant.
@@TomsBigSpiders the rant was not targeted at you, maybe I did not word myself properly. I dont mean that YOU need to show this in a video or teach people how to order there, that was and is not what I was trying to say. Your videos are so informative and my go to videos as soon as I think about getting a new t. In the video you say you dont tell us to buy them as these are expensive and not everyone is ready or even able to pay these prices, so it's just optional. But I know how much more expensive these acrylic enclosures are Sold. The point I wanted to make is that anyone can order the !exact! same acrylic enclosures that were reviewed by for example Tarantula Collective, a lot cheaper at alibaba. These kind of enclosures are Also affordable for people who dont want or can pay the prices of these Shops. Just search for "acrylic terrarium" on alibaba and you will find most of them for a few bucks. Most of the products from these shops are the "cheap made in China enclosures" you talk about, just sold with a higher price tag. I dont want to criticise you at all, your video was just the one review video I commented on.

Tom, please keep us updated on these enclosures. I would love to have one of these if they find a distributor here in the US. I have a beautiful Tliltocatl albopilosus I would put in the slanted enclosure. She is a full display curly that loves to stay out and roam around.
I definitely will. I'm hoping that we get them in the US because I want more of them. I LOVE the slanted design.
I love these, got to find someone to start producing here in Canada! I'm so jealous of you guys down there with your Tarantula Cribs and all that lol, and now EU have these lol. We do have Zilla micro habitats, I use the large arboreal one for my P.regalis. It's not super sturdy, but definitely enough that there aren't gonna be any escapees, unless it were to fall on the ground lol.
Thank you !
Literally just bought the sl large for my G. pulchripes!!
That's awesome!
Awesome stuff man! Hope you're doing well 🤘🤘🤘
Hey, Dan! I certainly can't complain. :) Thanks so much, bud!
I love it
Thank you, Kenji!
Im on a roll! Or im a loser!! Hope you and Billy are well!
You are totally killing it. hahaha We're great, thanks!
So sorry to her about The Queen. I still go back an rewatch videos featuring her.
Thanks so much, bud. Yeah, I'm still bummed about her. I'm working on a video with her now, but it's not been fun. :(
Wow those look great. The arboreal one would be great for some mantids
Oh, I could definitely see that!
Thanks a lot! We offer also enclosures with mesh ventilation especially designed for keeping mantids 🙂
@@arachnosys7144 wish you guys were in the US. Maybe if yall fund a distributor here
@@11chago11 I'm quite confident we will find one... Stay tuned!
The new spider room setup is looking great! The angled enclosure design is really cool, too. If it's not too late, will you get some footage when you're replacing the exo-terra tops and when you have time make a video of it? I recently learned about that being and issue and currently have a gbb in one with mesh still
Thanks so much! Once I get a few more rehoused, I'll be doing a room tour. And absolutely! I have a couple that I have to do soon, so I'll have Billie record one for me!
@@TomsBigSpiders Awesome, thank you! I've learned so much from your channel over the years and really appreciate the work you put in and how well you present information
After watching your video I coud t resist and yestarday I got 6 enclosures . Ventilation is fantastic , the lock sistem is pretty poor but I stil love them
Hey, Osky! That's awesome! I would love to pick up some more.
I want one of those so nice looking also your spider is beautiful I was thinking the gold knee or the red knee for my first T
Thank you so much, Jacquelyn! The golden knee is one of my all time favorites. :)
Where can I order either a gold knee or a red knee I'm torn there both beautiful I live in California and New to spiders so I really don't know where to look I went to a show I don't want a sling
Great video and awesome looking enclosures! It's a pity we dont have acrylic enclosures around here.
Also, video quality improved a lot, are u using a new camera? haha
Hello, Baulio! Thank you so much! We have much better lighting for the videos now that I have a dedicated room for filming. We usually have three different lights going (we used to only have one small one). Thank you so much for noticing!
Really nice enclosures Tom so sorry for the loss of your T queen real shame when you've had her for 25 years she's had a brilliant life there been a few loses on UA-cam petko from the dark den as had a few loses the past couple weeks but he hadn't had his no where near as long as you had the Queen really sorry for your loss. 😢.
Tarantula cribs and herpcult have some great acrylic enclosures
Way better than the zillas I’m find every couple of weeks I need to flip the lid to seal it back up
Hi, Angelo! I haven't tried any of the Zilla ones yet, but I've heard mixed reactions to them.
Unfortunately, not yet. I'll definitely mention Canada to him, though.
You are far ahead with the acrylic enclosures in the US than us in Europe. Perfectly made for T´s (esp. ventilation holes)
Well, at least these help to fill that gap in the market a bit. You guys have all of the cool glass ones. haha
Have you paired the theraphosinae sp piura yet, because they are a very beautiful species that have a potential to become a hobby staple
Hopefully, this weekend!
Hey Tom. Which brand and model are those plastic containers with purple latches in the background?
Troi! How've you been? Those are 15 qt. Sterilite Clearview Latches.
do you think the terrestrial one would be good for a GBB? seems like it has decent space to climb a bit
Hey, Nino! Yes, I think that it would work.
@@TomsBigSpiders I've got a GBB I was thinking of putting in that slanted front terrestrial as well but I'm wondering if that species would be better off in one of their traditional 12x12x12. Am I over thinking it?
Is that a benchmade 67 I spy in the background? I too do a little flipping.
Hey, Andrew! Good eye! I think that one is an old Parker that I got in the '80s. I bought it off a kid on the bus for $10. hahaha I DO have a newer Benchmade though!
great tip!
im from austria and i can confirm its a pain to find acrylic enclosures
Yeah, you guys have a lot of glass ones, right? We don't get many glass ones here.
These would work great for arboreal geckos. How much did they run you with shipping?
Hello, David! I think that it would depend on what country you were shipping to. They don't normally ship to the US, so shipping was VERY expensive (around 70).
You could put it in the T room in a frame with RIP QUEENIE. Aw what a sweet T.
Hi, Joyce! That's a great idea. I was going to make a tombstone with it, but apparently, Billie already ordered one.
I don't know, I just saw some cages last time I was at a pet store and thought "hmmm, would that work for an arboreal who needs plenty of ventilation?"
My fiance is dead set against it.
Man wish we had those here in the US...
Me too, Kyle!
Canada its hard to get acrylic. Great video
Hi, Channy! Yeah, a few folks were saying that. Hopefully, someone starts making them up there!
So sorry to hear about your g. porteri. :( Did you happen to preserve her or is that not really your thing?
Hello, lootscorpses. Thank you so much. I buried her; that's what I've always done with my pets. It would just be weird for me to preserve her. It's just not my thing. :(
@@TomsBigSpiders Hi, Tom! That’s totally understandable. I was just curious as I didn’t remember you mentioning that before.
I like these better then the rubber bands
Hi, Sara Jean! Yeah, me too! I don't like the looks of the rubber band ones.
Are there any US based companies that make acrylic enclosures with watering and feeding holes?
Not that I know of! haha
Nice enclosure but as you said the shipping costs would be horrible. Take care Tom. Still hoping to see the video soon really curious how big she is getting. Ibnsarachnids aka rob
Hey, Rob! Hopefully, they get a distributor here. I would love to buy more. And our video is uploading as I write this. :)
Where can we get these in the US? Did I miss it in the vid?
They are currently looking for someone to distribute them in the US.
@@TomsBigSpiders Its really fun putting together something you yourself designed.
Gonna have a look at these
Just got a couple of tarantula room enclosures n not very impressed
Hey, Jonny! I tend to try out everything that I find looking for the "perfect" enclosure. haha
Can we order these over here in the U.S.?
Hey, Billbeaux! So far, no...but they are apparently working on it.
Lamb of God this time? As Palaces Burn is an incredible album.
Good eye! And I definitely can't argue that!
Hey Tom I just finish your potcast today.
The problem with "H" is really people over conversating with those kind of thing. Like everyting with a creature thats a little bit different to a dog.
I love this hole "Tom likes in winter to go in his hole" comparison :D it has make me laugh on my e-bike
Short update I got a H. devamatha (2cm body) so beatiful and fast XD for my first asian I got it easy and "chill" rehouse.
@@TomsBigSpiders it might be never ending 😂
Do you know any enclosures shops in Canada?
I'm trying to find some that I can feature. Apparently, there aren't many up there.
@@TomsBigSpiders Alright, thanks anyway!
Need a UK company to start doing this. Since we left the EU, postage from there has gone up and you run the risk of import duty / charges too. :/
If there is a market void, that void MUST be filled, and the one who fills it stands to profit.
Hey, Walt! Very true...
just seeing the way of assembly and the instructions IKEA comes to mind
Alexander! Bahahahaha I can TOTALLY see that!
Just looked at their website and it's awesome, they have made it really well. But the price....man... I can get glass enclosures same size with cross ventilation and a background for 70% less money. Too much...
Yup, hence my bit in the video that not everyone will find value in them. Thanks!
First
Sorry, but at those kind of prices, I'd rather buy glass.
ua-cam.com/video/aOGSe5op370/v-deo.html You don't have to apologize to me. As I stated in the video. I'm just letting folks know that they're out there. Whether or not they are worth it is totally up to the individual.
So kann man auch deutsch lernen :D oder in meinem Fall ein besseres englisch XD
Hahahaha I'll try! ;)
Damn. Those are from germany? No wonder, no one buys them here. Those are hell overpriced. And I still go with my costum enclosures. And even with my specific requirements I can get it way cheaper.
Again, some find them worth it, others do not. I'm not telling people to buy them, but making them aware of the option.
TL;DR: You can get most acrylic enclosures really cheap from the producer and I rant about people selling instead of showing/teaching
I feel like there's a flood of new acrylic enclosures for tarantulas on the market now, which seems cool at first.
I dont know if this exact enclosure is also on alibaba or other big marketplaces, the point for me is that more and more people smell money in this hobby and it's slowly drifting away from "here, let me show you how to do it or how to get or build this or that enclosure" to "oh I found this new thing, maybe I can sell it and make money off of it"
I know it's capitalism and legit, but that was just a part of the hobby and the community that I really loved and I see declining more and more.
Sorry, TL;DR. ;) Just kidding! Well, let this serve as my reply: ua-cam.com/video/aOGSe5op370/v-deo.html A couple points:
A) A lot of people aren't handy and don't mind paying for something so that they don't have to do it themselves.
