Sam Ford what I learned was that skateboard competitions suck cus 90% of the tricks are bails. In all skating competitions. Its the only x sport I'm interested in watching tho....
I remember buying my first real skateboard after watching Bob Burnquist at X-games halfpipe.. It was probably 1998 or 1999 and it changed my life. Thank you, Bob.
Neither does the Navy. POLITICIANS get the military sent to die. You shouldn't hate the military, we need them. It's the politicians which abuse the power of the military you should be hating. By the way, last I checked Nike was pretty damn exploitative of millions of 3rd world people. They force 15 year olds to work day and night and even put nets outside of buildings to keep people from jumping out and killing themselves. They pay them like 70 cents per hour with no benefits to make a shoe that cost them a total of $5 bucks to make then turn around and sell them to you for anywhere from $40-$200.
LOL that Navy sponsoring.... REALLY ? cmon America , stick the landing and use an 3d Aircraft carier ??? this was the worst i have seen , advertising war next to skateboarding
I'm always amazed when an event, like this, with mostly young people watching it, gets sponsored by the army of a country ... it's like harvesting its youth for canon fodder in a probable / predictable future conflict ...
Josiah Butler Amen to that. I have friends in the Navy and my dad was in the military. I am damn proud of them. I love how people bash on them especially these skateboard punks and yet there dying to give them that option.
I can't believe how commercial the x games have become. I remember watching in the 90s and it was still seen as like a fringe thing and no one thought it would stick around as a competition. It's cool in a way that it's become so big and these people are accepted as real athletes but the commercialization sucks. And it's a real bummer that they removed in line skating from the competition.
The Navy stands for freedom of navigation in the seas and protection of America's lines of commercial trading. Without a navy, a nation is conquered almost immediately. The world is not a nice place.
Reading these comments of opinions about the Navy sponsorship have reassured me a bit. No disrespect to any individual soldier but your top brass are not just the antithesis of what x-games type sports are about, they're genuinely evil if not deluded psychos
Good lord, I get that the Navy sponsorship is ironic but the X-Games has to make money. The entire sport of skateboarding has “sold out.” It’s not the pure rebellious utopia like y’all are acting like it is. All of these dudes are just trying to get to the bag. Period. And if the Navy is paying, the Navy gets their commercials.
and god, can the navy get anymore shameless? sponsoring a sport where a lot of people dont like authority in the first place, and being a warmachine, killing innocents, etc. is not what needs to be advertised to children, or anyone for that matter. cringeworthy and shameless
I guess it's too hard to do consistently. More of a video trick. I think Beaver tried it once or twice in China, but he could never stick the landing. And even if he did, there'd be a huge quarter waiting afterwards^^ Looks awesome though.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone tell me the song/instrumental playing during the lifeproof living proof segment with Tom Schaar?? it's the same song/instrumental used in the Real women Coco ho video.
Always happens to me I’ve been hearing for years bob is the best to ever do it.. I finally watch a full length contest and again the guy I’m thinking is going to win it all fails to even make one... ( I know he’s a lot older than these guys and has done it already many times...just saying it always happens when I finally decide to check it out )
I think he did it on purpose so that the younger guys would have a shot. He already has more medals than anyone and I'm sure he wants to see some other kids have their moment.
Well Congratulations Elliot Sloans for winning the gold medal in America's Navy Skateboard Big Air Competition. United States of America will be proud of you for this very special moment.
Story time! When I was 14 I boarded down a paved road called snake hill in Arkansas. As I was on my way up my parents had arrived to pick me up (my friend lived near the bottom of the hill) "oh he is on his way down now" my friend said. I ended up going about 45 mph lol. I started and picked up speed fast.. we never tried this before. Having to unexpectedly hurl my weight around the curves to not fly off the drop off into a rocky creek on the right side.. at about 45 mph and there is an intersection with Golf Rd at the bottom of the hill... Where I hit pea gravel and flew off my board.. through the air.. landing on my elbow and my side, still sliding for many feet before jumping up and "very casually" got my board and walked to my parent's car as watched the entire thing. I got in the back of the car and said "I'm fine" as I put my arm to rest on the window.. I saw the skin in my elbow was all peeled back with little pieces if gravel in it.. I just picked them out and put my skin back in place and it healed nicely no help needed. Lol! Is one of my craziest moments of childhood. Glad to share it hear! Skate hard! I wish I had been able to keep up skating but I was hit by a car while riding a bike when I was 15.. but xgames woulda been a jam I am sure.
the only thing i learned from xgames 17 is that a navy fighter jet can go from 150 mph to 0 in less than 2 seconds
If you can jump, jump on into the NAVY!
and maybe that burnquist is no longer on our planet
Nic Parker what if I’m disabled
Ken; yeah, almost. haha.
Send a fighter jet down the ramp and lets see if it can do a 720.
Jaha Aja send a fighter jet into an AC but don’t have it slow down.
@@teipeu9033 what does that mean?
@@krp6511 I have no idea.
Best they can do is bomb a school, close enough.
What goes from 150 to 0 in less 2 seconds?... my will to live after hearing that 500 times
US BANK STADIUM
all that skating was so annoying. I just wanted to watch some navy recruitment clips dammit!
thank you Bob Burnquist for so many years of X-Games memories! we will miss you!
He'll never do professional skate anymore?
Hell skate again just nt xgames

I love how they encourage and support each other.
just made the connection... chris miller is a sick skater in the late 80s..amazing
Hooray for Bob, taking home the 1point like a Champ!
The fact that these people do these tricks is awesome 👏
"America's Navy is made up of pilots who can stick just about any landing, even on an aircraft carrier." Worst ad in skateboarding ever, period.
Amen. All the repeated ads were SO forced and awkward.
@@spectrre nama
Man, I miss Tony Hawk being in the booth for these. Chris Miller is a legend at skating but Tony's voice and attitude is just so entertaining
Why not Chris Cole? Or Rodney? Someone who actually has skill and goes to support the events

*“What goes 150 mph to 0 mph in 2 seconds? Recruitment propaganda.”*
You’re a channel with no content. You’re a fake commenting troll.
My Anon And you're a channel with content making idiotic comments...congrats...
Yeah, pointing out how people are being propagandized is “idiotic.”
Destroy Idiots I respect what you do because I do it sometimes
When he repeated it I cringed so hard
In case you missed it, they are at US Bank Stadium.
I freaking love x games. Skaters are the best!!!
Skateboarding is a really great and cool extreme sport❤
How much propaganda is there on this it's meant to skateboarding not a recruitment for the Navy
It's no different than how Nike has sponsored Street League. If Nike sponsored this instead of the Navy then it'd be a bunch of Nike commercials.
Neither does the Navy. POLITICIANS get the military sent to die. You shouldn't hate the military, we need them. It's the politicians which abuse the power of the military you should be hating. no you have it backwards--its actually a recruitment for the Navy, not a real skateboarding competition.
jim roe ii
Forget about your beautiful sport, let me advertise you an army who kills millions of people, wohoo! \o/
Thanks for all the great memories Bob! #Legend
Amazing 720 tailgra....americas navy how fast can a jet go?!?!
so true, this is so wrong how they promote war next to a skate contest

I don’t want to watch imperialist propaganda.
29:49 that handshake rejection hurt me physically
that happened twice to the same guy hahaha 25:50
I scrolled through the comments looking for someone else who noticed.
Feel pretty bad for the kid, but he seemed to take it quite well.
Americas Navy?! Warmachine's got no shame.

just dropping off that ramp. is pretty intense . the tricks are insane
I am found of this very very adventurous sports
I'm always amazed when an event, like this, with mostly young people watching it, gets sponsored by the army of a country ... it's like harvesting its youth for canon fodder in a probable / predictable future conflict ...
Well said. get 'em while they're young! Talk about adventure and excitement...yuck.
Petit Louis
Petit Louis yet it’s the same army that gave you these freedoms.
Just remember that they're the ones busting and sacrificing their asses to protect that stupid opinios of yours.

No way dude. Real skaters hate fruit booters
That "FIRST TRYYYY" at 27:40 made me want to stop breathing
END ME I thought I imagined it!!!
It was like the guy from Braille skateboarding I wonder if it was him
Please do not let the Navy sponsor the X Games ever again. War is not what Skateboarding stands for.
lol, tell that to the fruitbooters
money is money...
The Navy doesn't stand for war either you dumbfuck
The Navy stands for freedom of navigation in the seas and protection of America's lines of commercial trading. Without a navy, a nation is conquered almost immediately. The world is not a nice place.
Dude politics is not what skating stands for.
its just so weird how they land something and the announcer starts talking about planes.
Love the X GAMES. Keep these videos coming.

Bob could have won this if he wanted. He probably trained all of them on his personal ramp. Such a gentleman, he's handing off the torch.

He called "Eats-A-Low's" BS 360 no-grab Ollie a "540 Ollie"..it to me looked exactly like a 360 to me.
