I would love for you to make a video as to how you should potty train your pigs. I've had my pet pig for a month now and he knows the litter box is to pee in but he doesn't go there unless I carry him there, So he makes accidents pretty frequently and I would like to know if you have any tips as to how to resolve this, thank you!
You definitely want to start limiting his space. It's the same general concept as housebreaking a puppy. But, pigs are smarter and so they can either be much easier to train if they're taught the right habits from day one, OR, much more challenging if they learn wrong potty habits and you have to try and break them. Keep him in a small space, I like to use a puppy play pen, where all he has access to is his litter box, water and his sleeping spot. If you aren't watching him, put him in there. They aren't able to hold it long as babies, and aren't usually motivated enough to cross an entire room to get back to the box at that age. When he's out, if you see him start to wander for a potty break run him back to his box. Never reward them with treats for using the box, praise and petting only! Otherwise, they'll start to fake potty and get angry if you don't deliver the treat!
One day there will be 25 percent acts and dogs as pets and 50 percent mini pigs thanks to you they are great pets and u help express them they are way more than bacon I love your pigs 🐖 🐷 🐽

Love how you always squash "Misconceptions!" My hugest battle right now with Tansy is her dumping her water bowl and litter box!! I have tried rocks, big heavy bowls, little bowls, several litter boxes and she continues lol! So needless to say I am constantly cleaning up peed on shavings lol! Oh and she refuses to poop in the litter box! Have to put her outside for that! But she is worth every second! Great informative video!
I gave up on the litter box idea a long time ago. Mine would do the same thing, make a huge mess, scatter dirty shavings everywhere, or sleep in the box and pee somewhere else! The potty pad has saved my life!
Pretty sure Tansy would eat the potty pad hahaha!!! I now wire the litter pan and water to the crate. Which made her SO mad!!! She was doing it to be a brat and now she can't SO she PUSHES the shavings out now since she can't tip it!! She's a smart girl :/
Lol! I know exactly the attitude you're describing here...it does tend to be more prevalent with the girl pigs in my experience. They just have big personalities and ideas!
While I don't like to pick favorites and love all of my pets, I definitely have WAY more pigs than I do any other animal...so that might suggest I feel the same :P

Hairless "skinny" pigs kinda look like hippo's! I think i would get one after all if/when I'm able to provide for a pair/group of guinea pigs. Do you think the Skinnies would wear knitted outfits to keep warm in winter? I just wondered that because they're at a disadvantage without the fur.
I love guinea pigs. I wish I were able to get them but can't afford them right now. Sticking to my kitties, mouse (until he passes) and hamsters/gerbils for now.

Hey Adri, thank you for making these videos, they give me hope that I can one day bond with my own little piggy like the one you have here! I have been dreaming of having my own pig since I was a little girl. I’ve seen so many videos about people being scammed and ending up with three hundred pound pigs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I would adore that pig just as much, but a small one is just much more practical to care for. Is there any particular mini pig breeder that you would recommend? Are all of your piggies rescues?
I'll actually be doing a video very soon about how to select a breeder. I'd estimate at least 75% of "mini" pigs are scams...some only by 50ish lbs, and some by hundreds. While every size pig is love-able, I certainly understand why some simply aren't practical to keep as household pets! Most of mine are rescued, but I have also had litters born on the farm (Scarlett was from one of those).
My pig liked me carrying him around, until he got too big for me to do it. When he was Scarlets size, I had a him in a playpen. He cuddles with me all the time now, but definitely not how when he was a piglet. He treats me more like he needs to protect me now. Have you used the turf potty pad for an adult mini? Mine is litter box trained but on the pine pellets and pine sawdust equine bedding.
Sounds like you’ve been a fantastic pig parent! They can be a handful if you aren’t prepared so it’s always great to hear about other owners who’ve done a good job. I’ve always had pigs try to sleep in boxes with shavings 😝 so I’ve only used pads the last several years. I have grown pigs transitioned to the turf! It was a totally smooth transition and I think I’ll be buying a few more for around the house (since young pigs are lazy, lol)

I just got about 2 weeks ago she is 6 months and 5 pounds. She’s small and you can see her spine I drove 6 hours to get her. I’ve been doing baby rice small organic apple packs she loves the carrot kale nomads baby food. Is there anything else you can recommend? Vet wasn’t concerned at all isn’t another vet for hours here. She’s been checked for worms and any other parasites and was all clear. So it’s not that. Her siblings where very large compared to her she was shaking in a corner hidden from them mom and dad where both 4 years old and up to my knee baby’s where smaller but not like her.
Oh no, poor little thing. For skinnier babies I always offer them a little warm goats milk with banana in the morning. It makes sure they're getting fat and some sugar right away to give them energy and prevent possible crashes later!
That's awesome! Where they live does not change their size. That's strictly based on their genetics and their diet (don't underfed or they'll stay too skinny, don't overfeed or they'll get too fat). The most important thing for size is to see their parents and feed them a healthy diet!
It just takes a lot of time. If it took her 8 months to become like this, it could take her 8 months to learn differently. It's so worth it and every baby step in the process feels so rewarding!

I just got about 2 weeks ago she is 6 months and 5 pounds. She’s small and you can see her spine I drove 6 hours to get her. I’ve been doing baby rice small organic apple packs she loves the carrot kale nomads baby food. Is there anything else you can recommend? Vet wasn’t concerned at all isn’t another vet for hours here. She’s been checked for worms and any other parasites and was all clear. So it’s not that. Her siblings where very large compared to her she was shaking in a corner hidden from them mom and dad where both 4 years old and up to my knee baby’s where smaller but not like her.
Oh no, poor little thing. For skinnier babies I always offer them a little warm goats milk with banana in the morning. It makes sure they're getting fat and some sugar right away to give them energy and prevent possible crashes later!

Where they live does not change their size. That's strictly based on their genetics and their diet (don't underfed or they'll stay too skinny, don't overfeed or they'll get too fat). The most important thing for size is to see their parents and feed them a healthy diet!
any advice for older pigs? about 8 months? we rescued a female that seems to have been very neglected and shes reluctant to bond with us
It just takes a lot of time. If it took her 8 months to become like this, it could take her 8 months to learn differently. It's so worth it and every baby step in the process feels so rewarding!
