My favourite childhood book was "Myths of the Norsemen", I read it til it fell apart and HAD to purchase another copy only recently - I have always been intrigued by all things Norse (and NO I have never watched any episode of Game of Thrones) It seems in classical studies here in the UK we are taught of Roman and Greek histories and mythology, yet are rarely taught anything from our European (German, Nordic) ancestors, yet there is such wealth here. So again, thankyou
Looking good Arith, very interesting & helpful to know about the moon cycles. Watching this at the dark moon after the Harvest Moon, midway to All Hallows. Excellent video as usual. It has given me a few ideas for my own alfablot thus it is much appreciated as I’m currently a beginner when it comes to paganism and animism in general, thus your videos are extremely useful
for something with very little details of how it is done, how it looks like, and so on, you have provided a lot of information and clues that keep me interested to the end-- even tho I am stranger to these topics
‘We fear Odin’ - she said. Perhaps it was related to the procession of the dead, (la caccia selvatica) lead by Odin on those nights. Maybe it was not a time for wandering and entertaining, but of lighting candles and keeping quiet, as it was in other pre-christian cultures such as in Northern Italy. You should never stare into the eyes of your ancestors lest they would get lost forever, so you should keep your eyes down. How could someone welcome a guest in such predicaments I wonder. A fairly practical reason.
I have my doubts concerning a connection to the Wild Hunt in this case of the Alfablót, and not just because the Wild Hunt was connected to Yuletide, but also because it is a post-Christian conception in Germanic folklore, so it comes rather late. The fact that such folklore recalls Odin isn't because he was previously connected to the Wild Hunt theme, but because certain aspects of folk beliefs are retained to enhance social fear. But I should probably make a video on the Wild Hunt. I'll get to it.
@@ArithHärger looking forward to it! In Veneto, la caccia salvadega was led by La Redodesa, an agrarian goddess of death and rebirth and her consort Arlecchino and it took place around this time of the year, so tells us Elena Righetto, in ‘Folklore e magia popolare del Veneto’ but again not the same tradition albeit close. Thank you.
I think it would be highly beneficial to return to a focus on the cycles of nature. Completely forget about time-schedules and this post-industrial madness, and once again observe the changing of the seasons. Post-Industrial time often give us the perception of a very accelerated life, I can even tell you that, once, due to the fact that I was mostly focused on my UA-cam videos and always posting every Wednesday, it felt I was only living 4-5 days a month (wednesdays) so time for me was flying and passing by (I feel like I've lost life and time, and been asleep, for at least 4 years). Same happens when focusing on our 24h lives and all the things we have to fit into this time-frame. It's horrible. Small wonder most of us feel like life is just passing by and we don't get to enjoy any of it as we rapidly dive into old age. To return to a cycle of life based on the changing of the seasons, and Day and Night (Sun and Moon) as regulators of day-time, everything feels much slower and there's actually the perception that living-existence is quite extensive. This is much healthier in terms of our mental states, and we return to a balanced appreciation of life.
@@ArithHärger We must return to a lunisolar calendar in order to calculate time as did our ancient ancestors did. Tonight, we observe the time of Vetrnaetr, Winterfylleth, Samhain, etc. The ancients viewed the solar reflection onto the moon as something sacred that the forces of nature in which the gods manifested in as very much a means of telling time itself. I believe that with Odin, Cronus, Finn Mac Cumhaill, Gwyn ap Nudd, Rod, and so forth, can teach us a thing about time itself.

I’m curious why everybody only talks about Uppsala, when it comes to tempels in nowdays Sweden. It seems that Uppåkra, in the south of Sweden (more Denmark back then) is forgotten. Hi Arith, could you maybe make a follow-up to your last video about asking for permission? For example how you go about it? I searched the internet but it's really difficult to find helpful information. Thanks for all your work on this channel :)
I personally find its all about intuition, you could simply ask out loud and pick up on the energies and how you feel which can give you a good hint, but when in doubt I find a pendulum to be a useful tool for a clear yes or no :) but that's just me I'm not sure if it's the "proper way" or what not but I find it works well enough, as long as you're respectful and grateful that's the most important thing
@@joanna958 Hi Joanna, thanks for the answer. The issue is that I'm agnostic so I don't really get this talk about energies and such. For example asking out loud is a good start but how do I know the answer? That being said I think being respectful towards nature is inherently valuable so I just need a point of reference to orient myself with.
Hey there! Well, there's plenty of approaches and it very much depends on people's interactions with spaces and they knowledge they have of such places and their inhabitants. For instance, I find it curious that some indigenous peoples of Brazilian Amazonia clap their hands in order to announce their presence to the local spirits, much the same way in Europe we used to do (making loud noises, especially vocally) to call upon the presence of the spirits, which in Folklore some of traces of this behavioural pattern remained, and somewhat changed to ward off spirits as well. Almost always, there's this need to expose yourself, make your presence be known, to catch the attention of the local spirits. In this way, you are not entering in stealth, so they become less suspicious of you. From then on the approaches vary. Most of the time is through simple speech of asking for something (to take, to give, to gather, to cross over, walk about, etc.). Best of luck!
@@cupkelpie4656 Hi, you're very welcome :) and I guess if you're not used to picking up on energies, which is really just intuition and going with your gut, it takes practise. But you could also ask aloud for some kind of sign, the rustle of leaves you're looking at for a yes and stillness for no or something along those lines. But when I say "energies" it's really just gut feeling, and as annoying as it sounds, when you know you just know and trust in your own wisdom to decide for yourself, and good luck!
Halloween and November 1st The Day of the Dead is in remembrance of the great flood. When else in history has so many people perished at one time in one event? It is now something far different. Blessings to you
Wonderful video once again. But one question in your opinion how does Alphablót line up with the historical winterblot? Blots are on the full moons, so these would be at the same time yes?
Its amazing how much of our History has been, lost, stolen and burned because of fear and ignorance. Nothing much has changed after the inquisition as the parasites of Christmas are still at it. Hopefully what's happening now is restoring Odins left eye and raising the Mighty Dead in the all Father. Terrible children.
Alf is just another word for Ulf. That will give many a better clue as to what it was about and how the concept behind it is echoed in fragmented form in the so called Wild Hunt and why it was considered unwise to open a door to a stranger at that time when it further back marked the beginning of Hunting Seasons as the main source of survival rather than such as harvests, as well as its strong ties to traditions of slaughtering weaker animals on farms and preserving their meat and hides. This year's observance begins October 28 till November 27, 2023 based on such a lunar calendar. It also was not a unique concept to European countries either. It goes all the way back to when all our common ancestors were nomadic.
In swedish folklore, writen down in the 19th century mostly. You must not go out in a holy night. Beings and ancesters are aktiv and dangerous those nights. Perhaps a memory from the fear of changing religion
Have you shared your thoughts/wisdom regarding Thyra " also known as Thorvi or Thyre, was a Danish queen, spouse of King Gorm the Old of Denmark, the first historically recognized King of Denmark?"
I wonder if, since the Christian All Saint's Day lands close to Alfablot, it was another instance of the process of Christianization of Scandinavia co-opting a pagan holiday. Then, what sort of similarities might Christian saints have with heathen alfar? It may fit rather well if alfar are considered to be honored ancestors who have have gained a measure of divinity, as that's essentially what saints are to Christians.
Could this have been a Self Quarenteen of sorts? Could the ancient Swedes have attributed seasonal sicknesses to malevolent spirits>? and sought to prevent the spread of evil spirits( seasonal illnesses) with this ritual... just a theory
Earth's tilt give us our yearly seasons, the Sun has a tilt too, it take a point on that tilt 79 years to complete one cycle, about 19. 5 year season for the sun, where every 19 years October 31st has a Full Moon, and every 19 years a month without a full moon, called The Metonic cycle, so you know, every 19 years for sure, Alfablot was held on Halloween, the 304th day of the year, 61 days left, both numbers at to 7, the tilt of the Sun. Jupiter and Saturn has a 20 year cycle, their last time meeting was on the day of the winter solstice 2020, their next will be on September 6th 2040, which will be the 250th day of the year, 115 days left, and the 6th is 106 days from the winter solstice. I have an Elf name Wayland, September 6th is my 79 birthday, Jupiter and Saturn won't be alone, the rest of the visible planets will be their too, all aligned with Spica, the hand star of Virgo, looking like a Spiculum, a Spear, all on my birthday, my name Roger means Famous Spear, and if you play Spica in reverse, you hear my name "I Cupps", odd isn't it, I'm done, Spiculum is the location of the Sun on the day of the winter solstice, a little bloody red macula (spot), ha ha ha my name is Cupps-McCullough, play Spiculum in reverse, it say Mother Cupps, the one who named me Lewallyn Roger, my father named me Wayland Wyn.
In Irish, macúil means Son-like, filial. of, relating to, or befitting a son or daughter: filial obedience. noting or having the relation of a child to a parent. The ancient god of rebirth Damu was known as the Swine Star, within the cup shaped head of Draco, known as "Taweret" means "she who is great", Taweret was one of several goddesses including Ipet (“the Nurse”), Reret (“the Sow”), and Hedjet (“the White One”) who could take the shape of a hippopotamus, a water pig. In the famed Metternich Stela, Isis tells Horus that he was reared by a "sow and a dwarf". And "Son of the Boar" is the meaning of McCullough. Consort to Taweret was the Thigh of the Ox Leg, in the Zodiac, Sagittarius is the Hips and Thighs, the parts that hold your culo, between your nalgas, a Black Hole behind Sagittarius we call the center of our galaxy. In Norse mythology, the Mead of Poetry, also known as Mead of Suttungr. When Suttungr got close to Odin that, in his fear and haste, the god let fall some of the precious liquid from his anus. This myth was reported by Snorri Sturluson in Skáldskaparmál. The drink is a vivid metaphor for poetic inspiration, often associated with Odin the god of 'possession' via berserker rage or poetic inspiration. Chased by Suttungr, Odin spits the mead of poetry into several vessels. The Thigh of the Ox Leg is the Great Bear Ursa Major, where I see Bear in Berserker. The center foot Tania of Ursa is named after the Queen of Fairies Titania. Tania is my midheaven star on the hour and minute of my birthday where I now live, but I was born under Alula, meaning Firstborn, the alula is the thumb of a Eagle wing. The thumb is a symbol for Judgement, and the wing is a symbol for Messenger. A little extra reading Spicifera (Spica) est Virgo Cereris” - “The Virgin with her sheaf belongs to Ceres”. [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.117] “Virginis in propriam descendunt ilia sortem“, - “the belly comes down to the Maid as her rightful lot” [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.119] “At her rising Erigone (Virgo, who reigned with Justice over a bygone age and fled when it fell into sinful ways, bestows high eminence by bestowing supreme power; she will produce a man to direct the laws of the state and the sacred code; one who will tend with reverence the hallowed temples of the gods.” [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.265] “The temperaments of those whose span of life she pronounces at their birth Erigone (Virgo) will direct to study, and she will train their minds in the learned arts. She will give not so much abundance of wealth as the impulse to investigate the causes and effects of things. On them she will confer a tongue which charms, the mastery of words, and that mental vision which can discern all things, however concealed they be by the mysterious workings of nature. From the Virgin will also come the stenographer: his letter represents a word, and by means of his symbols he can keep ahead of utterance and record in novel notation the long speech of a rapid speaker. But with the good there comes a flaw: bashfulness handicaps the early years of such persons, for the Maid, by holding back their great natural gifts, puts a bridle on their lips and restrains them by the curb of authority. And (small wonder in a virgin) her offspring is not fruitful.” [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.237 and 239] Do you really believe in rebirth.
You do know, part of the ritual sacrifice of the god of rebirth, which is the Dying and Rising god, is to be cut-up into many pieces, what the plow does to the field after the harvest, cuts it all up, putting it back into the soil. Is that why they cut that King up.

@@joanna958 Thank you so much^^
Halloween and November 1st The Day of the Dead is in remembrance of the great flood. When else in history has so many people perished at one time in one event? It is now something far different. Blessings to you
Interesting stuff
Interesting. Thank you : )
Gratidão amor, sempre 💜💜💜🤘🤘🐍🐍🐍
Thank you!
Happy new year
Wonderful video once again.
Reasons why family traditions are so powerful. I am deeply saddened that I am missing that link.
Saudações.

Happy Alfablot! 🙂
In swedish folklore,
writen down in the 19th century mostly.
Ha, I just got to the end of the video where you bring up this very point lol
I luv it

Great! :D
Spiculum is in Sagittarius, known as Pabilsag whose name means "Chief Ancestor", father of the child of rebirth known as Damu.
A little extra reading
Spicifera (Spica) est Virgo Cereris” - “The Virgin with her sheaf belongs to Ceres”. [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.117]
“Virginis in propriam descendunt ilia sortem“, - “the belly comes down to the Maid as her rightful lot” [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.119]
“At her rising Erigone (Virgo, who reigned with Justice over a bygone age and fled when it fell into sinful ways, bestows high eminence by bestowing supreme power; she will produce a man to direct the laws of the state and the sacred code; one who will tend with reverence the hallowed temples of the gods.” [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.265]
“The temperaments of those whose span of life she pronounces at their birth Erigone (Virgo) will direct to study, and she will train their minds in the learned arts. And (small wonder in a virgin) her offspring is not fruitful.” [Astronomica, Manilius, 1st century AD, p.237 and 239]
Do you really believe in rebirth.
You do know, part of the ritual sacrifice of the god of rebirth, which is the Dying and Rising god, is to be cut-up into many pieces, what the plow does to the field after the harvest, cuts it all up, putting it back into the soil. Is that why they cut that King up.
What kind of sacrifice?

Hello there :D
Why would they invite strangers in to see their harvest?
Is not the celtic sawan sowain simular to halloween the new year for witches and pagans who also follow a lunar cycle. Not just wiccans, but traditional witchcraft too.
I think the “Elves” were our ancestors, the Pleiadians. I’ve studied decades… I’m not just pulling this oo my butt. The Irish remember them too.
