I noticed after watching this that the way he meets his end is similar to how it was in the first concept. He still holds the family in place while trying to attack their baby, baby retaliates, he gets caught off guard long enough to meet his maker, albiet in a different way.
Good catch! I guess they like the idea of a baby unknowingly taking down the supervillain, which is a fun idea, and we’ll executed in both versions.
I’m glad they cut the scene and made Syndrome the villain. His role in the original version is a bit like Bomb Voyage in the final: a memorable character but only has a small part. Syndrome is one of cinema’s most surprising great villains, so it’s for the best that they got rid of the other guy and made him the main antagonist.
Agreed. Love Bomb Voyage, Syndrome doesn’t work as well in that secondary antagonist role when compared to that fully fleshed out version we know. Thanks for watching!
Now I want to imagine a world with Bomb Voyage as the main antagonist lmao
I remember reading that the original villain - Xerek, a supervillain feared by heroes and villains alike, and an obsessed ex-boyfriend of Helen's - was removed because the filmmakers decided his connection to Bob was too weak. Only having an issue with Bob because he's married to the woman he's obsessed over was too thin a connection.
And I definitely agree. It turned out much better to have the villain's grudge against Bob be direct, and due to an actual action of Bob's. And it also likely resulted in Helen being a stronger character too.
...Now that I think of it too, having a super-influential supervillain antagonist who's obsessed with the mom of the super family also would've made the *Fantastic Four* comparisons even more potent. Xerek could've easily come across as a ripoff of Doctor Doom/Lex Luthor.
For some reason I thought this was gonna be about the Gazerbeam funeral
That one’s another interesting scrapped plot line, for Incredibles 2 though.
i remember watching this alternate intro and being fascinated by it as a kid! the incredibles had some of the best dvd special features on a film that i can recall
I love watching the team break down a lot of aspects of the film
God I still think it would've been hilarious seeing Bob faking he accidentally cut his fingers off.
It’s would fit with his character so well
I wouldn’t mind seeing this pitch be reworked into the opening of a new incredible movie. Like now superheroes aren’t illegal in the incredible world but the secret identity would still be in play.
I agree, it could work in the third movie now that heroes are legal, and also set the stakes early on.
he’s still probably stronger in the films given the omni droid that he could damage was capable of withstanding that earthquake guy’s power who was making like magnitude 6 earthquakes if i recall correctly
Yeah with the omnidroid he’s obviously strong, it’s just harder to compare strength relatively with something like that.
I saw the barbecue scene as a kid and always thought it was less a "non-canon" scene and more just a "this didn't fit in the movie's runtime" scene.
So I like to believe it absolutely was canon, happening some years after the intro we know and before the movie really began.
Young Elastigirl could be the main antagonist of “The Incredibles Power Up!” (The Incredibles Prequel) and she could be the arch nemesis of Young Mr. Incredible
I think a prequel to The Incredibles could be interesting, but I don’t really think Elastigirl fits that antagonist role
Rival, maybe, but not nemesis.
I could more so see that, they could do that through flashbacks in Incredibles 3 too I suppose
It’s like they always say, without Syndrome, there wouldn’t be an Incredibles.
No wait, that sounds wrong. Still… it was interesting to see Zerek’s role in the Incredibles Comics.
I love that storyboard Syndrome didn't have a cape.
Good catch! Another cool detail from this scene!
This is mostly just a summary of the scene.
Most haven’t seen the scene so I provided a summary of events included with commentary
I thought this was a huge, channel, great video!
The only note I could leave is to speak a little more energetic, and I think you should make the video of the scrapped villain as well
I think everything from the start to the finding of the knife would have fit right in to the film as it is.
Tf you mean this is almost 20 years old!
As a short this is awesome but ultimately I’m glad it was scrapped
I agree, and think this premise could still work with another villain if they did want to represent the time period with a short.
Syndrome is a man child clinging to the past.
This is a man who has touched science that no one in the real world modern day has even come close to and is rich enough to own islands yet he can’t let go of that one time someone told him to tick off and ruins his entire life over it.
Syndrome’s a joke and the worst part of an otherwise amazing movie, I have no idea why people think he’s a good villain.
I disagree strongly, but respect the differing opinion, definitely going against the grain here. We really aren’t supposed to align with him, but we can see that, despite being of such gifted intelligence, he let a run in with his idol consume him, making him more of a cautionary tale. Some other comments here have explained the way he works from their own views as well, but it’s a shame he didn’t work for you. Thanks for the comment!
3:55 hindsight and all but Bob probably should have tried to pass it off as a gag cleaver.
Would’ve been som quick thinking
I don't know, I think the first movie did showcase Bob as someone who can't easily be grazed. The opening scene shows him stopping a train by catching it and walking away unharmed, and in the present when we see his desk at home, there's a jar containing bullets that bounced off his body. The Omnidroid knicked him in their first fight, but I think it's safe to assume that the Omnidroid is of a different caliber of weapon since it was specifically designed to fight and kill Supers and has done so several times over multiple iterations.
Good point, seeing is believing for the bullets in my opinion, but the train does help to showcase what he can withstand.
@@iMEGAmationwdym seeing is believing? We see the bullet jar. It literally says “bullets that bounced of my chest” on the jar. What more do you need to see?
@@mastrheartsxiii
...
...
The bullets.. Bounce off.. Of his chest? Maybe?
Even with the Train he didn't just take it though, that face he makes right before it hits him shows that it still hurts like hell even if it doesn't have any major physical damages.
@@BurningBridgeStudiosMr Incredible isn't known to be a liar, why would he have that jar in his personal office if thats not what the bullets actually did?
Using the mirror to turn Syndrome’s own zero point energy against him is a pretty cool idea honestly
I saw this deleted scene for the first time a few days ago, and i really liked that original concept. while i'm glad we got the final product, it was cool to see that part when helen defended her decision to be a stay-at-home-parent, it was a good establishing moment, i totally get why brad bird wanted to keep it.
100%
they should absolutely readapt it with some modifications to fit canon for the opening of Incredibles 3 i think
The idea of a mirror causing Syndrome's weapon to simply reflect on him and make him immobile is both hilarious and very bad for a villain of his caliber.
Kind of a case of his hubris I suppose, in both versions his arsenal leads to his downfall, since in the final film his cape leads to his demise, but also the omnidroid just turns on him.
Syndrome is so great because he doesn’t understand what heroes actually are. He has this sort of glamorizations of them, seeing the reputation and the punching bad guys, but doesn’t realize that sometimes heroes need to make tough decisions, and that sometimes the popular opinion is not what’s actually for the best. When Bob is talking to Edna about getting a new suit, he mentions the idea of having a cape. Why? Because all the greats wore capes, they’re just cool. Syndrome agreed, and him seeing the super hero only for the symbol, putting a cape on his own outfit is what turned out to be his downfall in the end. Heroes are not just people who are super strong or unique who beat up the villains, and products can’t replicate what a hero is. They do the right thing always, even if they’re told it’s the wrong thing.
Yeah he’s super well written. Thanks for the comment!
Not all heroes wear capes.
@@StealthTheFoxz Sure, but it’s not the point. Both Bob AND Syndrome had moments in the movie where they idolized heroes, in one instance it was of heroes with capes, which was shut down quickly by Edna, and in another it was of Mr. Incredible himself, but Syndrome died for not seeing through the costume. They’re mirroring each other. Whether or not ALL heroes wear capes isn’t the point when they’re the only ones directly addressed by the parallel
I can not imagine a world where Syndrome is not the villain....sounds like a hellish and horrible existence.
He is integral to the films longevity and success
That baby/ mirror scene would’ve been cool to see too
That was a cool use of the tech that definitely would’ve been fun to see in the final film
aside from the part with syndrome, i think the scene at the bbq couldve been put in the movie still. like placed just after the newspaper bit but before bob is shown working at insuricare.
Certainly could’ve been used to show them adjusting to the new life in that gap between time periods
It could have, but it's not really needed. The struggle to adapt is still shown by Bob damaging his car. The point of the scene was filled by other later ones, except for having helen defend her being a stay at home mother.
It would've ruined the pacing and the tonal shift between the scenes it would be sandwich together would be weird and remove the "groundedness" of the movie IMO.
@@invertebrado Yeah. While the scene itself I think is good (aside from the angle of making Syndrome a one scene character) you have to gauge its context within the movie as a whole. Sometimes a scene can be good on its own but just not fit into the flow/pacing/structure of the movie as a whole.
I mean they could’ve easily kept the stay at home mom part, and scrapped Syndrome dying so early on. Or they could’ve brought Syndrome back and used his plot for a sequel
Yeah kind of like Bomb Voyage, if this went into final production there’s a chance it could’ve been altered anyways.
I am so very glad that Incredibles got the rewrite it had. That alt. opening just becomes "generic super hero story", and what we got was something truly special. Syndrome as a character is absolutely brilliant in the final version, from the backstory on.
A little late but that BBQ scene was actually put into a incredible book that I remembered reading as a kid
Good insight, cool to hear.
Oh thank goodness i wasnt imagining that, i was so sure i had seen that knife scene somewhere but i wasnt sure WHERE
It was in a “hidden item” book, kinda like I Spy! I still have my copy. Was always curious what that page was based off of.
I think a lesson that the Incredibles teaches us is about letting go the past and be thankful for what you have . Bob was able to let go the past and be thankful that he had a family now and he also let go of the glory days and became a better person as well as a better father . Syndrome on the other hand couldn’t let go of the past and he actually could’ve been a great superhero with all of the technology that he had created but he let the pain that Mr incredible caused him to make him bitter and evil . So evil in fact that he didn’t care that mirage was going to be killed even though it’s hinted at that they were in a romantic relationship . Another thing is that syndrome was so mad at bob for rejecting him , that syndrome literally wiped out 50% percent of the supers population . He was actually trying to commit genocide against the supers . In a way syndrome did succeed because the Omndroid became so powerful the it became self aware and turned on syndrome . And a lot of people don’t mention this but syndrome not only wiped out 50% percent of the super population but he also had a private island and guards by the age of 25 when he was killed . Also and I’ve been thinking this for a while . When syndrome had Mr. incredible captured , he could’ve killed him right then and there but I believe he wanted Mr incredible to admit that he had won and the mr incredible had lost . Also too whenever syndrome addresses the incredible family . Notice how he always looks at bob , to me , syndrome doesn’t even acknowledge the rest of the incredible family , his main focus is on Bob . Because of what happened when he was a kid, is Bob he wants , he could care less about anyone else ! It’s crazy how syndrome study the supers before he went after them but he never thought not to wear a cape , honestly, syndrome, would have lived, had not worn the cape , all he would have to do is climb out of the jet and use his rocket boots to get himself to the ground safely . He one of the best villains in Pixar .
Yeah the glory days definitely highlights the primary motivations for these characters, I like your take on Bob to Syndrome, all of it helps to flesh him out so much to the viewer. Thanks for the comment!
@@iMEGAmation ofc friend
Ngl small shorts that document their lives just after superhero’s were outlawed sounds so much fun to watch
Agree 100%
Its a really good scene, i like syndromes characterization and mannerisms
I love getting to see more of Syndrome in any capacity
I kinda wish they had kept this scene, but of course making it so Syndrome wouldn't have been killed off so early/easily. It would make him seem more menacing.
Would you remove the Incrediboy aspect of his character then?
@@iMEGAmation Nah
Im sorry, cars 3’s ending wouldn’t have improved it. The ending we got was fine
Haha I agree, most comments on my video on the scene disagree though. Thanks for watching though!
This scene is still awesome. I remember watching it all the time when I was younger. The main reason why I watch the franchise to continue is so that someway this scene can be refitted into a movie or short and basically be made canon. I think it can still work, we just need to change the villain who breaks into the house of course.
Yeah so many tiny detailed of this could be retrofitted into a new piece of media within this universe
I thought it was an interesting deleted scene, it’s just that there’s absolutely no way for this hypothetical, alternate film to have been setup as anything alike the incredibles we got now.
Yeah the Xerek storyline would’ve gone way differently, so there would likely be next to no crossover of scenes between the two versions of the films. Maybe Dash would still be a troublemaker placing thumbtacks in class and Bob and Lucius still snuck out for hero work but not much beyond that.
I think the alternate opening could be the start of a darker and more realistic AU.
I do really like the idea of using a mirror to counter Synbroms attack. Clever and also visually funny seeing Bob just tilt the mirror to smash him into the ceiling XD
Shame we didnt get a scene like that at least.
I don't think he would have been stronger. Bending some stainless steel clever around your fingers vs taking damage from being whacked by whatever military grade alloy the Omnidroid is using is logically consistent, I don't think people realize just how vast the differences in metal qualities can be.
Interesting how in both versions, Syndrome dies trying to kidnap a baby. *insert its a canon event joke here*
Very interesting scene. Though, realistically i think it counts as two scenes, but still. I think no one can complain about it not being in the film, its such a good film that it was clearly the right choice.
Ironically, i think that Syndrome works much worse as a one off villain where as bombvoyage is a much better one. On a surface level, bombvoyage is actually more interesting than syndrome. He has a clear theme, and is very well equipped for a single scene where the viewer looks at him, gets what hes about, and then doesnt need to think about him again. Whereas Syndrome, doesnt actually have that. In a scene like this, he is quite literally just a generic supervillain. Now of course, this is just in the context of a character whos around for one single scene, where their purpose is to get in and get out.
I think this opening would be a good start for A post-superhero movie, just not The Incredibles. Exploring a couple's life after they've retired from being superheroes is an interesting concept and The Incredibles touches on it briefly, but I'd like to see it delved into a bit more in another property.
See, I could've seen the intro part, the cookout scene, as being part of the show. It's a way to show off the banality of his existence, and also the concerns he faces as a superhero in refuge. The call to Syndrome could've been the trigger to start his plot to lure him to the island in the first place. It would show how Syndrome knew who to contact in the first place, and also kind of show Syndrome's obsession that he had at least one and possibly many individuals actively looking for him. Gives you that creepy stalker vibe.
For the home invasion scene, it might have done well at the very end of the movie, instead of the one we got with Syndrome and Jak-Jak. There's something very visceral about threatening a parent's kid, it's every parent's fear.
So yea, these scenes, adapted slightly and placed differently, could've added to the movie. But I'm glad we got the Syndrome backstory we did.
Man that opening movie deleted scene just re-establishes my hatred of incredibles 2 "would you like incredibles without the family aspect?" No, why would i ever want that
Man an incredibles where Syndrome just died during some failed break in wouldn't been the same. I really do think he's the perfect foil to the family; a lonely man (despite all his henchmen, we never see Syndrome care about anybody except Bob in the first scene and his self. Everyone else he only ever cared to *look* good for) who was never born with any powers but becomes the single most powerful threat to people who had all the power in the world, but cared too much about the past the world tried to move on from, goes against a family of supers who despite Bob obviously yearns for the glory days, truly values his family and their future above all else.
I think the first part was ok
This seems less like a deleted scene and more like a movie pitch
It was a proof of concept, but also, just naturally, a deleted scene with the work they did on it.
I await your Wall-E video
If this movie was ever remade I bet you anything that syndrome would be a sympathetic villain, and im so sick of that bs. Just give us memorable villains like this, not every one of them always needs to be misunderstood
What is this even a reference to?
I think it's a reference to the interview where someone who worked on Incredibles 2 teased the idea of Screenslaver getting a redemption arc.
Ok, but what if this zerrick was the villain of incredibles 2?
He would’ve fit more with Helen as the protagonist I suppose, since he was apparently her ex, but many have pointed out that, at least in his early 2000s form, he wasn’t as interesting as a character
nice
I love the movie as is but this is a pretty cool scene.
It would have been a completely different movie if they would have kept the scene. Supposedly the real villain was gonna be elastigirls ex and his power was that he always wins. Definitely a cool concept similar to dominos power of good luck
This would make a great short film if they just changed the villain, maybe still keeping the zero point energy if they gave it a more crude unfinished prototype design.
I hear original that scene was the fake dead because after he appear live as the true villain
Brad Bird states in the featurette this comes from that Xerek would be the primary anatagonist
Fun video keep up the good work and remember jesus loves you all god bless never test the lord
