Believing I am supposed to have one true passion and calling always made me think there was something wrong with me. Especially when people told me I can't do more than one thing and have to choose. I'm working towards becoming an engineer as a job, but I also love writing fantasy stories and I am obsessed with anatomy just for the sake of knowing. Being a polymath is confusing when you're young but it's great later.
Thank you for introducing that ted talk to us. I really appreciate it! It's also thanks to UA-cam's recommendations that I managed to find your channel and this video. I was just thinking about the thing about being "multipotentialite" earlier this morning. And to be honest, I didn't know that there was such a term not until I listened to the talk-just wow-language in general never fails to amaze me.
Da Vinci was an extroverted intuitive. That means that he interacted with the world in chaotic bursts of energy on whatever he was interested in. He was being himself, he was literally born wired like this. Now ask yourself, am I a Renaissance man - or just imitating one?
I thought something was wrong with me. 😭😭. I start and stop so things in my life. It's very very frustrating to stick to one thing..cuz I love love so many. Glad to see I'm not alone. 😊
I am just now realizing thatthe fetishization of “specialists” is constructed to serve capitalism-masters of a craft, in retrospect, always had mutiple passionsand were interdiciplinary. Demonstrated in Robert Greene’s Mastery.
I think both specialists and multipotentialites are at least to some extent responses of market demand. Perhaps at one point in time the market demanded individuals with more specialized skill sets, but as market interests expanded so to did the demand for individuals with more diverse skill sets. But I don't think specialists are fetishized, I think the market changed so quickly and in such a short time that the generation that preceded this change failed to recognize that market demands had indeed changed, and that therefore they needed to equip the next generation with tools more suitable for the new market environment.
I felt bad for a long time because of this thing of being good at many things but great at nothing. I'm a car blogger and analyst, a marketing manager, and a sinologist, I've played piano and danced for many years. This concept really gave me a new perspective on my nature.
This video is quite inspiring, from past to present, I have always had diverse interests within varied fields, this video made me realize that it's not all black and white, we can pursue different interests :), ty.
Is this why I am interested in everything? I have already practiced 10 skills and it seems like more and more keeps coming... is it alright to feel hunger in this endless calling? Plus will this affect my other skill mastery, if I don’t focus on one thing? And no matter what even when I feel discourage, I still kept on trying to progress despite the adversities. And it’s no wonder that the more I keep exploring the more I kept learning about myself. So I don’t think Leonardo Da Vinci’s quote was wrong about it finding true knowledge.
I am in my late 60's people never stop nagging me about doing one thing! And guess what, I've helped so many people in my life and they remember that.. thank you for this video
...I came across your channel this afternoon (with your 'Fluent in French' video) and I saw that I was already subscribed, with the bell turned on. ...I spent quite sometimes trying to figure out what exactly made me subscribe to your channel in the first place. Now I know. It was because of this very video which I remember I found about eight months ago, when I was doing some researches about 'Polymathy', thinking that I was... kind of... broken.
Hey Robin, Great video as always! I think Da Vinci is such an inspiration. I have research deeper into who he was and what he did to find out that there is so much more about him than meets the eye, from what I have researched he was a master of consciousness. I accidentally removed your comment from my video and found no way to restore it ^^. Anyway thanks for the love
Haha thanks Julien. Pushing myself to become better everyday! However, I think I'm currently in the phase of spiritual purification, since a lot of my old habits are dragging me back. I've been doing consciousness work for about 2 years, and this might just be my biggest leap in growth. I'd work through it and I'd be back to the healthy self in no time! We should do a skype podcast some time!
Yeah man that is a great idea! Currently I am still at my internship, in around 3 weeks time I am free for several months to deeply develop my life purpose. This means I have time to do all sorts of things. After that I will study Philosophy in the Netherlands :)
This is totally me. Also: (Insert absurd tags here): Intelligent, cute, water drinker, soda hater, uses double layered toilet paper, washes hands for 42.6 seconds with soap and then 30 seconds with Luke cold water
Hmmmm... nice talk and I did give it a thumbs up but didn't really hear much about Leonard Da Vinci and the correlation between him being a multipotentialite.
Lol. I only wish I was half as distracted as DaVinci was. He achieved more in every field than many "specialists" in just one of those fields achieved.
Its not a problem at all, those few bad apples who criticize people for being so diplomatic and multi-talented, and upbraid you for not having a speciality are just a bunch of losers and this shows their narrow view of the world and human nature. Their view of the world is limited. So screw them, you know. Not everybody is the same.

The renaissance man doesn’t have just one or two interests.
No they don't. They're constantly distracted by new ideas and passions.

finally a channel that understands me. thank you for discussing these topics brother.
I'm so grateful for finding your channel

this channel presents genuinely original ideas that I can't find anywhere else on youtube

Same here🥺

Idk, it is kind of a stretch.

Omg I am the same! I am going crazy with all my interests! I wish I had more than one life to do and to learn all the things I want to!
You deserve a loooooot more subscribers
You addressed my nature....I am kind of this attitude.
Then you are a Polymath!

Same line of interests as you are explaining in this video. Is there any suggestion with you that where ( or wheres 😁) I can fix me.?
I can do two things
Dab on the haters
And blocking out the haters
Dab on em!!!

I think being a polymath doesn't clash with mastery. Mastering one skill serves as the anchor point for you to rest the rest of your discoveries on.
Man, great that you are doing it, keep going.
Fair enough, but how do you make time for all of the interests?
Don’t do them all in one day do them in different periods. One or two interests in 3 months two other interests in the next 3 months for example.
Yahh same

Wow... that one video I needed to watch at this just juncture!
Hmmmm... nice talk and I did give it a thumbs up but didn't really hear much about Leonard Da Vinci and the correlation between him being a multipotentialite.
Just keep exploring!
amazing! Super inspiring, thanks!
So this is why I want to start an indie, mariachi, rock, and jazz band...

I would like to add that not everyone can be a multipotentialite. It is a distinctive trait.
I think you have half the idea of the renaissance person down... I view it as "have plenty of fields of interest, have expertise in every one of them"
You're super🎉🎉🎉🎉
Good Video but expected something else based on your Label
This helped me so much
