We also eat pork with young jack fruit curry in Myanmar too. I guess you don’t really need to cut jackfruit into small pieces. As it becomes tender after cooking and jackfruit soaks up the soup which makes it delicious.. But we dear curry paste and pork first then add jackfruit and make stew kind of soup
Please show us how to make jaew sauce. I had it at a Thai restaurant with a dish called, crying tiger. It was sirloin steak with a dipping sauce that was out of this world. Please!!!
In the Philippines, we cook young jackfruit (langka) with coconut cream (gata) and shrimps and the recipe is called Guinataang Langka and it's best if it's a bit spicy so we use green chillis (not so spicy) and bird's eye chillis (the spicy ones) 😊💕 We always have it with steaming hot rice because rice is life, we're Asian! 😂
Oooh! That sounds delicious. I'm on the east coast of South Africa, and we have jack fruit growing all over. Gonna try this. Well, obviously my way with the ingredients we have👌
I grew up in the south and soup was a twice a day thing and i got burnt out on soup until i started making these soups from Vietnam Thailand and Cambodia now im making soups and my wife loves soup so shes all good with me learning to cook these foos and im having a blast learning how to cook new foods and i will be trying this soup ive been using pineapple in them to offset the chilly peppers and i think the jack fruit would be interesting in it instead have a blessed and happy day oh and they pineapple off sets the tamarind as well as the peppers
Shrimp paste makes a world of difference in these Thai dishes. I made her laksa dish once without the shrimp paste and it sure was missing that funky savory note.
Lovely .. Jackfruit we make the seeds as " PORIYAL " Stir fry.... in Tamilnadu, South India Jackfruit Halwa we do it ... Its a dessert... Lovely Curry Dear Pai.. Feel like South Indian too... Cheers, Pradeep. Pollachi,Tamilnadu.
In indonesia we have "lodeh" young jackfruit and coconut milk, you can add chicken feet, tofu or veal, and the other important ingredients are bay leaves and galangal.
@@ihateantifan1 if u have big brain enough and read other comments, people share about their version of jackfruit dishes, like from Philippines, India.. dunno why u comment like this.
What a great video. I must try this recipe. As an aside, my first experience with a young jackfruit dish was from Jogjakarta in Indonesia called gudeg. Wow, what a great dish. To me, it tasted like a potato curry so I didn't mind the core part of the young jackfruit.
In India we it jackfruit in many ways. Lots of recipes from simple to complicated like biryani. It's yumm. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. 🙏🙏🙏
I got a wild betel leaf plant (not commonly used in the Philippines) because I wanted to make miang kham, but that's a lot of work so I will try making this first. Thank you!
Ooh another one that’s totally new to me.. will have to add it to the list. I love Chrysanthemum greens.. they are my go to vegetable for Chinese hotpot
Im going to try this and i think your grandmother and i would get along well i like cooking things until they are homogenized pretty much so all the flavors mix up well and you can take a damp towel and put over half your mortes and the onion will go to it instead of making you cry im liking these curry and sower soups ive been making lately i hope you continue to show how to make these foods
Young jackfruit (langka in filipino) is usually cooked with coconut milk. I usually buy it in a carinderia which sells it very cheap. If i try to cook it myself, it would take a month to be consumed.
Fresh jack fruit has been used to cook with chicken as a curry dish for many many years in the villages in Asian countries like Spore, Msia, Thailand, Indonesia and Phillipines. They sell it in hawker stalls too.
Had young jackfruit cooked like meat in a Issan restaurant in Ekkamai called Hom Duan. It was the first time I tried it, it was definitely something new and fun to do. Never thought it could be used that way before.
Amazing! I live in Central Thailand and I haven't heard of this one yet! Also could you please do a video on how to make หมี่กะทิ pleeeeease? I absolutely LOVE this dish!
How timely that you posted this receipe, since 2 weeks ago I had a Jackfruit Curry at my favorite South Indian Restaurant for the first time. I loved the South Indian verion of this Curry and now, I really want to try your Thai version of the same. I will make your Thai version and then, return to this page with a contras and comparison of the two versions... in fact, I will purchase the South Indian version to compare side by side with your Thai version and report my impressions. I expect your Thai Jackfruit Curry will be different... maybe, but Jackfruit Curry vs. Jackfruit Curry... it should be intersting,. I Love your Cooking Channel...

Tong ho is a very popular, or even a staple vegetable for hot pot in Taiwan. We eat tons of it during winter time. We don’t have it now in May. But next time I definitely will try this curry recipe when I see tong ho.
In Hong Kong that type of "tong-ho" is called "皇帝菜", literally "emperor greens". By "tong-ho" we mean something that is from the same family but has less wavy edges and a stronger flavour. Both kinds are winter veggies and can be a bit more difficult to find in summer, so how about replacing them with Chinese celery, which I think has a quite similar fragrance?
In Indonesia young jackfruit is also popular commonly as a side dish, in some region they have own style how to cook young jack fruit. In Padang-West Sumatra they cooked young jackfruit as a Gulai Nangka, we can found it in Padang Restaurant all over in Indonesia. In Java style young jackfruit cooked as a Lodeh Nangka, meanwhile in Jogjakarta we can found young jackfruit cooked as a Gudeg Jogja.
Love jackfruit curry. We eat it all the time in Chiang Rai. It is not normally so red as yours, more grey tinted like the shrimp paste. It is also not heavily chili spiced. No dried chilis at all but maybe a few fresh bird chilis in the broth. Think pork broth with garlic, shrimp paste and fish sauce. We don't cook it that long so it stays in big chunks that we can pick up with the sticky rice. Sawtooth coriander is a common green. The falangs in Canada do not want to play with Palao. It stinks like last years sweat socks if you can find it at all. Save it for som tam Issan.
The broth reminds me of Nilat-an, a regional dish in the visayan region of the Philippines..It uses Jack fruit, pigeon pea (Kadyos)..pork belly, Batuan fruit (Garcinia morella) as a souring agent, Finger chillies, ginger, tomatoes and onions..🤔
FYI. When jackfruit trees bear fruits, we have to take a lot off, leaving the rest room to mature and grow big. What to do with those young ones? We eat them.
OMG I think I learn something again! I think us thai people call that chrysanthemum vegetable ตั้งโอ๋ right? So I went to googled it, and the wiki said it's the same kind of greens, so I find it fascinating that there's a possibility that the thai might be introduced to this vegetable by chinese.
P YW is correct. It is not the same as ornamental chrysanthemums, most of which originated from East Asia. Edible chrysanthemum is a type of daisy native to the Mediterranean. 🙂
Just an FYI, the betel leaves used here are wild betel leaves, which is a total different species, but in the same PIperaceae family. Totally different flavour profile, betel leaves taste much stronger than wild betel leaves.
I've had young jackfruit at a Buddhist temple but no idea what the dish is called. All I know is its chopped up and stir fried with herbs and chili. lol

In Bangladesh we eat young Jackfruit curry by cooking it with other veggies and sometimes meat

Two of my favourite vegetables are Tong Ho and Watercress! I bet watercress would work very well here too. Wolfberry leaves (gau gei) might work too.
Love jackfruit ❤️
I used to enjoy it in a desert that had ice and other things in it.

It is not actually from a chrysanthemum plant, don’t know why it’s called that. The correct name should be Tong Ho. We usually put it in hot pot.
