They say the devil is in the details and this video really reinforces that! Very helpful, almost invisible ideas that are so easily overlooked but when pointed out you realise how helpful and beneficial they are. Thanks Matt
One of the best things in the home is a heated floor, but our installer didn’t put them close enough to the cabinets so as I’m standing at the sink my toes are cold! I love the idea of the heated shower seat.
When I saw your thumbnail I immediately liked your tile. When the video started and I saw all of it and you said it came from Clay Imports, I was even more impressed. Great bathroom, very subtle use of premium materials, , the latest tech and quality craftsmanship. I totally agree with what you said about smaller spaces allowing higher end materials!
Not sure how much everything in that bathroom would cost at retail, but the Kohler Veil Comfort Height Toilet alone is $6,000.00. Must be nice to have Kohler as a sponsor.
What an amazing and luxurious space Matt! So many details so well thought out. I love the heated floors right into the shower and bench. The shower speakers. The remote thermostat. The steamer! Get some breath blend essential oil in a tiny dish under the steam outlet...would smell so good! Super neat space. How cool you'll get to enjoy this space for years and years to come. Yay!
I love love love the shower controls both outside and inside the shower. I've thought for years this would be perfect and at various times searched for systems to do it without finding something perfect. Will check out this Kohler one.
12:40 I don’t know if it’s possible at this point. But would it be possible to hook up the towel warmer to the shower system? My idea would to have the towel warmer heat up as soon as you start the shower and remain on for 2 to 3 hours after shower is done.
Beautiful space! We finished a bathroom addition and used those same Kohler sconces and a Kohler medicine cabinets. Best $$ spent was our radiant heated floor! We went single bowl in a larger vanity to get more cabinet and counter space
We did the same thing regarding the vanity. Single bowl, lots of cabinet and counter space. My wife and I aren't trying to use the sink at the same time so we didn't see the point to having a second one. When designing our house we thought very carefully about how we were going to use it and what we would need. I think most people simply think two of something is better than one.

Nice! Great design, suprised there doesn't appear to be a shower niche. No grab bars in the shower either, when I did my shower finding a attractive grab bars was nearly impossible. I used Kohler barre fixtures. They seem to be the most functional without looking institutional
I believe the niche is in that pony wall based on the construction video he did earlier focusing on the Schluter and Kerdi systems he used in there. The heated bench runs along that wall opposite the shower head too, IIRC.
What happens if you loose power while using the shower? can you turn the shower off? A small PC UPS on the valve/controller/switch might be a good idea.
If you lose power while using the shower the valve will shut off, the controller has to have power in order for any function to work whether it’s steam or shower/ handheld. Those Kohler valves are finicky in my experience from working with them.
Consider installing dtv valves somewhere accessible (helps with service/maintenance), built enclosure on back side of wall with shower head/valves. Covered access opening with full length mirror (LED side lights). Good luck!
It won’t work without power sadly, that is a big draw back with the dtv systems. They really are just meant to look sleeker and maybe help declutter the wall of so many transfer valves and steam controls. Cool idea but not practical if it’s the only valve you use.
I have seen a heated floor system like that installed too close to the toilet and melted the wax ring. Hope this can help someone from a smelly bathroom.
Matt: Builds a highly insulated airtight house for efficiency Also Matt: installs steam shower, heated floor, and electric towel bar to heat his bathroom. Matt needs to install 5 AC condensers to cool his 'passive house' 😂😂😂😂
Hopefully you have a whole house water filter for that steam shower. Good to get anyway. Lot of contaminants are absorbed in the skin with just a regular shower. Plus taking showers in filtered water is just awesome.
This is probably covered in the comments already or in some of your other videos, but I'm curious about how the moisture/humidity is managed in the closet. What are best practices to keep both of these spaces dry and maintain good air quality?
Yep he also has a make up air system installed. So when the vents kick on the damper matches the volume of air being moved out and matches the speed to have a balanced house.
what about the general rule of 'never use pocket doors in bathrooms' for mold/mildew/corrosion risks? Do you vent the interior wall of the pocket door?

The plans our builder had, which we then customized, had a tub, towel closet, and then an open space which as an option could be turned into a shower resulting in what you have. We didn't see the point and instead shortened the bathroom a bit to have more space in the bedroom (which coincided with another change we made) and used the remaining space to extend the closet leaving us with plenty of storage space. Does that shower door have enough space to fully open without hitting the shower head? Beautiful bathroom by the way! Im adding a master bathroom and was concerned about the glass door hitting the shower head
Don’t you need a vent inside the shower for the steam to escape? The Zander vent is outside which means the steam has to leave the shower enclosure and will condense on everything outside that is cold (mirror, walls, light etc)
Doesn't look like the mirrors fogged up after the massive amount of steam he let out. In a normal shower you put the exhausting vents inside for sure. In Matt's case, the Zehnder ERV is always exhausting air so having it inside would make his steam shower steamless!
@@veovius The concerns about residual moisture were covered when the sloped ceiling and heated floor were discussed. The HVAC system also manages it afterwards.
The size of the space, the heated floors, and the humidity detecting electronics, all help reduce the condensation during and immediately after showering. The Robern in wall vanity has a defogger so no concern there. The HVAC system does the mop-up after.

Matt, 20:29 (tip #11) you talk about high temp epoxy grout. I am building a steam shower just like yours, can you please share what brand high temp epoxy grout did you use?
Love your vids...I grew up on my grand parents dairy farm and tend to be a little practicle/keep it simple focused when I am designing building my living spaces over the last 50 years. One question, can you take a shower if the power is off?
Your favorite Dallas plumber loved the bath! Now, how much money did that "not over the top" bath/steam room/valet's closet cost? I like Kohler too, but some neighborhoods can't quite swing the cash, IYKWIM. The kitchen was fall out of my chair stuff too. If the house becomes too much a burden, I'll take it off your hands for a couple hundred K, or not! Awesome- glad you had the sense to do it while you both knew how and still had the money! You won't be sorry! FR
Matt, any particular glass that you used for the steam system? I see the hinged top glass to help seal and then vent the steam. Want to do this in our shower rebuild and that is the last item I don’t have purchased.
You did not include Robern in your list of items you used. Did you use the 2700 K or 4000 K lighted mirrors"? Robern YM3640RCFPD4 Vitality 36" x 40" Lighted Mirror or Robern YM3640RCFPD3? Thanks,
Would you please do a follow up video in a year to show how great this bathroom looks with the high quality water treatment you installed in your home?
I've been wanting to build that shower/sauna for 20 years! That transom is motorized? Is it a kit sold by Kohler? The kit included the mounting bracket with the swivel? What size steamer did you put in and does it get the shower to sauna temps?
Matt, that wasn't a Sharpie. I use those Milwaukie Pens all the time in my tile work because they will clean off after the cut. Not saying it's a bad tile. Indeed, it looks and probably performs great. A real Sharpie brand Sharpie may also clean off but not as easily. Of course, with porcelain tile and epoxy grout a mortar float pan would never saturate. Good choice either way (if just a bit pricier). I agree on Kohler products. They are always no hassle. Always glad when my customers choose Kohler.

The HVAC system does the mop-up after.
hi from Colorado nice bathroom I wish you were around when I was building houses
That toilet said 🚽 use me Master! Use me!! 😂 omg I said once I’ll say it again. This may not seem like a million or hundred million dollar home but it sure beats one by a long run! Everything just makes sense! I love it. :)
Great tour and gives me a lot of good ideas. What do you recommend for a good non-slip tile for the shower?
We used heavy Textured tile, Daltile Exhibition EX04 dark gray. Grateful we did, know several people that have had bad accidents slipping in Showers and tubs.
@@AzaB2C thanks, I appreciate the recommendation.
Very nice. Lighted toilet is a bit over the top but I like the steam.
I have a little clip-on light. It's good not to turn on the lights at night.
When your wife or girlfriend tells you to put the seat down after you pee . The relationship is over… the light is the last resort…😢
Matt, 20:29 (tip #11) you talk about high temp epoxy grout. I am building a steam shower just like yours, can you please share what brand high temp epoxy grout did you use?
Matt, it looks incredible! Live the dream! Thanks for sharing all of it!
Love your vids...I grew up on my grand parents dairy farm and tend to be a little practicle/keep it simple focused when I am designing building my living spaces over the last 50 years. One question, can you take a shower if the power is off?
Matt, can you use the shower when electricity goes out?
Great video! Thanks for all ideas and details around the bathroom.
Thanks Matt. I watched your sideburns for the rest of the video.
Love this, Matt. Taking notes!
Really nice video. I like the shower touchpad
FR
whew, SO glad I watched this when my girlfriend wasn't home. If she would have seen this bathroom i would have went broke.
Luv your tips as Im planning my Timber Home with SIPS
Matt, any particular glass that you used for the steam system? I see the hinged top glass to help seal and then vent the steam. Want to do this in our shower rebuild and that is the last item I don’t have purchased.
Hey Matt have you ever used or heard of Wedi shower systems?
Only in Texas is that a compact bathroom...
I have some family with a bathroom in an 80s built house. the bathroom is absolutely bigger than my apartment
Is there radiant heat on the wall behind the shower bench?? I didn't think Schluter radiant heat could be used on walls.
This man really just flexed his home bathroom to everyone and he’s getting paid to do it too
Showers every night when coming home dirty from the jobsite? 🤔 He hasn't taken a night shower in years! 😂
Was the scenes of you going over the features of that toilet throne on the floor? ❤🤩😉
Nice thought processes. Well done.
What type of exhaust do you have for the steam when you turn it off?
I've been wanting to build that shower/sauna for 20 years! That transom is motorized? Is it a kit sold by Kohler? The kit included the mounting bracket with the swivel? What size steamer did you put in and does it get the shower to sauna temps?
Best thing builders or anyone doing home project is put it on paper before anything …. brainstorms your ideas
Hi Matt man I'm crazy in love with you bathroom I'm in South Africa and would love that space how can I get that product
I wish you would have showed how the heated floor worked. Can you turn it off or on?
