What people see in "enemies to lovers", is a partner that you are comfortable and confident with, because you never cared about wanting to impress or to trust that person. It's the only person that probably sees you the way you are, the way you express yourself, rather than how you are in society. You start by knowing each other's imperfections first and foremost, your discussions/dialogues are more natural too, because you don't have to follow social cues or feel embarassed with each other...there are no expectations. When you start to feel something for the other, you can only get to know the good stuff and it will only get better.
Honestly, I love this dynamic. I've thought about writing a book or something about it before - two badass, dangerous assassins from rival kingdoms who are hostile to one another because of the, well... rivalry. They keep coming across each other while on their respective missions, and they always end up chasing/sparring with one another, but there's this underlying sexual tension under everything (e.g. heated eye contact, physical closeness due to the fighting, each one getting the upper hand until the tables turn, etc.) And then one of them protects the other from some external threat and realises that there's a tenderness between them rather than just physical attraction.
When he said: 'I will tell them truth or a variation of it, that you were a fierce opponent... My equal...' and oh, my favorite part: 'that we spent all night battling', I couldn't help my self but to laugh, in a good way, because I knew what it was coming >w< ahhhh I loved it!!
