CL speaks a lot on interviews because she is the leader, the spokesperson of the group. Thats her job, her responsibility. Learn some kpop group positions of the members and you'll realize that.

Minzy was actually listening and trying to understand the conversation. She's the only one who couldn't speak fluent English back then, but she's just really smart to teach herself an entire foreign language she can literally converse in English these days. I mean what do y'all expect she even graduated Magna Cum laude in college her brain is something else 😌
And Minzy was listening intently while Dara was sleepy (hehe) and Bom was spacing out. 😁

Why is everyone talking about this interview being boring? I actually liked it, it was mature and professional. The interviewer was really good because he had information and provided good questions. Just because it's not fun it doesn't mean it's a bad interview.

The questions are not boring, but he should've tried to at least throw some random questions on other girls. I mean Dara and Bom can also speak fluent English so why not.
this is so true, I don't understand why people connect quiet to being boring. It was relly interesting for me, the way the interviewer spoke to them and everything

I think CL answers all of the questions very thoroughly and quite thoughtfully actually. The interviewer was a bit harsh during certain questions so that was quite unnerving. I just love my girls and truly feel badly for Dara because she is doing everything she can to stay awake. Been there!
With Dara blinking so many times and Bom looking down all the time, they looked like they were suppressing their urge to fall asleep.

It’s not only YG’s fault. 2NE1 acted complacent relying on a CL to be the sole speaker for the group each time,boring the audience.At least Minzy looked alert and interested. It would have helped to have her memorize some answers and take part in the interview.CL is fluent but she was annoying with her “you know…”habit. She never even really looked at the 3 making them look “invisible”. Bom looked bored and too quiet.…no trace of the hilarious Bom we know. This is a pity because she can speak English with an American accent even. Dara is also fluent in English even with her Filipino accent and actually very witty. Instead, CL nearly lulled her to sleep by monopolizing the interview.A good leader should have prepared the others to participate.

Ummm they are being interviewed by Wall Street Journal of course the questions are gonna be serious! How old are most of you?!!! He's asking appropriate questions pertaining to their marketing strategy and how successful it's been for them globally. I thought the interview was very good and he never talked down to them and showed respect. Plus this is almost 3yrs old I'm sure everyone's English is exponentially better than it was then.
right. i believe the interviewee should have been the ceo of yg, if wsj really wanted to discuss strategies since artists may not have a decent sense of the company's strategies. btw, i was truely impressed by kpop companies' marketing :)
I think the dude interviewing them did a really good job. He kept the question coming, made eye contact, told some jokes. It was great.

i think CL definitely handled this interview well. it was more formal and intellectual compared to the interviews she is probably accustomed too and i am impressed by her level of understanding and responding to his questions.

Watching this video on this day, and still wow on how 2NE1 was huge during their era and until now. That's what legends do. As a person who witnessed 2ne1 in their stardom. No other GG in kpop who can surpassed this legendary group. Blackpink maybe more popular now but still they can’t matched the presence of 2ne1 in live performances and even in interviews. Just by looking at them they have a very strong aura and just listening to their bandname 2ne1 hits me different.

CL is such a smart and charismatic woman and artist. People don’t realize that she was 19 or 20 in this video.. i mean look how she talks and how she handeled all the questions right, without being intimidated by that native American interviewer. Now that i’m a 28 yo man whatching this.. i find this very impressive 🔥
I love all the girls and wish they'd all speak up. They are the best singers I've heard in a long time and they are more real than majority of celebrities these days.

All the people in the comments talking abut how boring this interview is and wondering about all the business questions, this is an interview for the Wall Street Journal. Last I checked that is a business publication. The interviewer is just asking the questions that will interest his readership/viewers.

One thing that I noticed about 2ne1, especially CL and Dara is that they are media-trained very well. I found out recently that Dara has been a part of a talk show with the beauty talk stuff, while CL, according to this video, could literally carry out an interview for 18 minutes straight by herself. This is what sometimes the kpop groups lack, which is cute to the fans to see their idols being shy on stage yet great on stage, but to succeed more in business, theyll need what CL has here. I don’t mean to offend anybody, but sometimes without the personality that CL has, other groups feel like manufactured robots 😕 I hope kpop groups will also focus on training in this area so they could succeed more, especially in breaking foreign markets 😊
because she’s already an Idol in Philippines before she debuted in 2ne1. She has many media appearances and concerts in Philippines. She was considered an A list idol there.

Well look, CL is 2ne1s leader, so she has the lead in all of the interviews. And also, she is aloud to say 'you know' as much as she likes because u cant control her
bubbles pop I know I can't control her. I'm just giving an advice. She can say "you know" as often as she wants, but any native speaker would agree that it will sound much more professional to use less filling words like "you know" in her public speech.
Khrenisbaymot1 im a 5th generation aussie and I know how to speak english, saying "you know" is not what a native speaker would say but she isnt a native speaker so she has the right.
CL says "You Know" too much but i love them. they are the only group that i had listened to first when i had started liking KPOP they are like idols and i look up to them when i listen to their songs and i can relate to them. they are amazing and i thank Nicki Minaj for letting them into her commerical bc soon they will be big in the US. 2NE1 Forever:)

Maybe wsj should interview YG himself instead and talk through translation cuz no one knows better about the business than he does. 2ne1 are celebrities, they have a image to build and they can't say that it's all about the money even though it's painfully obvious to everyone.
2NE1 has to learn a lot of languages on top of new choreography, remembering old choreography, working out, eating right, dressing fashionably, and constantly sharing their private lives. I think CL did a great job speaking for the group as a whole, especially as the Leader, and hope that 2NE1 can feel more comfortable speaking English in the future. 2NE1 fighting!

I have noticed that Dara is like the Mother figure in the group (she is the oldest in the group) and she takes on alot of responsibility besides singing and dancing. She hardly sleeps and that can catch up when you least expect it. Love you Dara!
CL intellectually and realistically answered every questions. She Nevered said I but always we which is a true leader do. The girls behaved accordingly. That’s why we Loved this Group 2NE1.

This interview is nice because of 2ne1, the gentleman interviewing them is trying to influence his audience into thinking that they are inauthentic but they are so pure and will not be broken~

Guild3412 Im just saying if he wouldve prepped more, he wouldve known about their reality show. He asked if it contained things they didnt want their parents to see (aka sex or boys in general) luckily they thought he meant make up or something. Reality shows there arent like jersey shore or the kardashians.

+Danny Zuko Bom is fluent, she lived in the US but she speaks English with a Korean accent. Dara is fluent, Minzy speaks English but hers is the "worst" of the four. Minzy speaks other languages really well though. Though Bom and Dara ARE fluent, they've stated several times that they aren't confident speaking English in interviews and rather CL do it.

When it comes to english CL never really gives a direct answer to any of the questions they're being asked in any of the interviews i've seen so far, is like she gets lost within words, i think they should allowed the rest of the girls to speak because though CL knows better english she still lacks objectivity in her answers. which misses the whole point of being the chosen one to speak in this type of interviews.
Yes she can speak better English than the 3, but not the best you know? When Bom talks she speaks random words and Dara is so shy...
***** My thing is, if they were all allowed to speak, i bet one of them will be able to deliver the answers to the questions asked, because really this is frustrating, even the interviewer looks desperate for somebody else to give him a straight answer.

I think it's more that the interviewer can't grasp how they're not very similar. 2ne1 is a different, unorthodox group because of how different Their individual identities are, which is making it hard for him to ask the questions and for CL to answer them regarding the whole group.
