I hope you and Will get talking again soon. Great demos of these new amps. Of course, I just ordered one of the old ones today after seeing them on sale!
Keep up the good work lads, your channel is appreciated. Your reviews are straightforward, to the point and normally about stuff I'm interested in, so I'm always keen to watch anything you put out.
I have the old Tone Hammer 700. I am fine with it. There is always something new. I play it through a Gentler 2x10" with the 4 -3" speakers. I might get another cab but for me it works great.
I do think it's good that they put the maximum power comsumption on the back. Most amp companies try to tell you their amps consume only a tiny fraction of the power they output, but this isn't particularly helpful when you are trying to plan for power capacity, since you always need to take into account the peak power requirements. Yes, I'm aware that average power consumption will be lower, but the point is to avoid breakers tripping and fuses blowing under peak power demand.
Hope Will is ok! Nice features, I kinda like this "darkglass-ification" of amps. More tonal possibilities for everyone, at all price range, for whatever genre.
If i understood the situation correct then all thats left of Aguilar is the name, everybody who has made Aguilar great has left the company since KORG has taken over..which really makes this a Korg amp.
Yeah, i am hoping Korg leads the way in afforable ampless tech. Not sure where Aguilar fits with that, but Darkglass definitely was a good acquisition.
Don't confuse power consumption and output power. Power consumption is referring to how much the amplifier will draw from the source. If in Europe and plugging it into a 240V source you can use Ohms law to figure the current P/V 650W/240V=2.71A. Then we can confirm Power at V*I 240V*2.71=650W. I assume these are the same ICE Power modules a lot of manufactures continue to use. Good review, I just wanted to let you know. You are spot on regarding peak power though. GK is still my goto! Enjoy
My first impression after hearing them here only is that I like the sound of the AG more, but intuitively it seems like the Tone Hammer would sit in a mix better.
The cab sim really makes a different but the price is still relatively stiff. I will still keep using my ag and th preamp pedal for now (esp AG700 and AG500 have a 100 price difference as I checked)
Well, only because you asked Chris…I think manufacturers have the right to build wherever they like (within legal constraints)…but we as consumers also have the right to know where products are built so we can make an informed choice. Nothing irritates me more lately than all this “designed in” and “engineered in” rubbish. Also, when I started playing bass Will and the early Bassic Gear Reviews were among the best (and only) resources online for learning about bass gear so I associate him with those fun early days of rediscovering my love of music through learning a new instrument. It made me weirdly sad when you mentioned him and your relationship. Keep up the good work mate 👍🏻
I was thinking the same thing regarding his comment about his cousin will. I’ve only just found this channel so I don’t know who will is. Either way informative channel I will say I’m gutted they removed the clip light on the front panel compare to the previous version.
Sick. Thanks for the great video. I almost got the older ag700, but having cab sims and usb seems huge for me as a studio producer. Though I DO have an hx stomp and kemper with tons of IRs and modeling... wondering if I even need it. Also wondering if the 500 be good for TWO db112's that are 300 rms each?
all those mini pots worry me for reliability. A couple years ago, my TH500 cut off due to a thermal issue. I literally couldn't find anyone to repair it in NE Ohio. The top 4 shops aguilar (korg) sent me as authorized repair shops wouldn't take it because they couldn't get parts from korg...
I just bought the old TH500 on sale. Love the tone, but was shocked at the fan volume! How does the fan noise of these Aguilars compare to similar amps from Mesa, Ampeg, GK, etc?
Got the newer AG500 this week and sent it right back, the fan ROARED...absolutely unacceptable. It's almost as if they disconnected them for all these videos. With over a decade of complaints you'd think Aguilar would fix this. Nope. I moved on to something else, was super disappointed.
Maybe something is wrong with my vision.. or maybe i'm just special (i am a bass player after all) but those zig zag "Z" arrow graphics to show which amp is playing seriously confused me.
I have an SVT Pro 4, is all I've ever played through. Because I'm not into all these simulation and ir this and that. You will never sim your way into a tube amp like an ampeg. Sadly, i don't think we'll see amps like svt pro 4. That amp has everything and not on the back and front. These little boxes are just staying to get a 1/4 of that stuff on them. What I'm saying is, all these new tech lack punch and digital is just shite.
@@lewisyouknow Nope... SVT-4 PRO will beat these newcomers on almost any aspect. Power, sound, reliability, connectivity, adjustability, longlivety etc. There is only two issues with them, size and weight. If you can live with these two "minor" inconviences, you got superior amp that can do anything one could throw at it and with ease!💪🏻👌🏻😀
@@Ancient_Iron not in my experience, this was the case for sure about 15 years back, but the solid state technology has more that caught up these days. I've owned multiple svt amps over the years, and reliability is definitely not their strong suit lol. played many gigs world over, the svts do hold a place, but to suggest that these aguilars are inferior is just not true, they are well made, second to none QC, attention to detail, power and clarity are absolutely superior to most amps on the market today. Hooked up to a good cab (because that's what's most important, it's the speakers that give to most of the tone not so much the amp) and blind tested you wouldn't tell the difference, especially not in a mix. To suggest otherwise is rubbish talk
Seems IMO that ,..you can’t lose either way you go! Aguilar is out to kick ass huh! They ain’t playing on grabbing market share!😅Any type Bass and one can have at it,..gig w/ great tones & punch! A+ Aguilar ❤🎉👍🏾✨🎛️🔊🔊🎶
Maybe the old tone hammer will drop into my price range now!
I just bought one today. Look around and go for it!
It has already.
lol hopefully. It'll last longer too. Less stuff in it, easier to fix.
Whoa, had no idea Korg bought Aguilar and Darkglass.
They have followed in the footsteps of SWR and Eden. Great companies killed when bought out...
Glad I got my TH before. Didn’t know either
I hope you and Will get talking again soon.

While I do watch on phone or tablet, I often connect a DAC and Hifi headphones for tone demos.

I have the Aguilar AG 700. I don't have any use for all the modeling profiles but I suppose that there are bass players that do.
I have the older TH500 and AG700. I prefer the AG and will probably keep it and not upgrade. I just don’t see the need for IRs.
I hope they can incorporate the cab sims into the preamp pedals, would be handy for ampless gigs.

i'd like to see the IRs available for download

Does this cab sim go into the D.I. for front of house?
The ag is a fantastic amp, this new upgrade is cool, but don't think I'll be shelling out for it just yet
09:03 should be the default response to people who claim that Tone Hammer can't provide modern-clean sounds.
if by "modern" you mean circa 1990, sure...

+1 on the cheap loud fans... i have a tone hammer 700. The fan is so loud. Yet another thing to mod. Thx Aguilar.
Can I get a link to that Peak vs RMS video?

Hey chat, I need a decent practice amp. I'm looking at an Ampeg Rocket, either 1 12 or 1 15. Anybody got words about it?
Own a 112, love it. Very versatile, nice and loud if you need it
@@adamnesbitt11 awesome, thanks!
The most important question: Does the tone hammer remains the same sonically? I don't wanna change anything from their tone😎

Was that a little dig at the Boss Katana around 8:50? ;)
I spotted that too lol
LOVE aguilar!!! also, what wall hangers do you use? those look super sturdy
Check out some of the pickups. I think you'd particularly like the DCB series.
I was seriously impressed by whichever pickups were in those Spectors at NAMM
@TheBassChannel that one had the DCB jazz pickups. I've used The DCB soapbars and music man and they rock.

I ended getting the fan mod kit from TH Custom Effects. The install wasn't too hard and it made a world of difference! Much, much quieter.
@@waltblaze violating the warranty wasn't a good way for me to solve the issue, they dropped the ball on this and have for years, shame

How much and how to they compare to the new Genzler kinetix 800?
The biggest difference is there are absolutely no tubes in these whereas the Genzler amp has three preamp tubes.
@@robertsands5837that's a huge difference!
And the Genzler is not loaded with all of those gimmicky sims. It's the real deal.
where is the ad notification? :D
Maybe these will blow up just like the new Darkglass heads?
Time will tell but korg has ruined two boutique brands since they bought them.

My thoughts exactly.👍🏻 I think that there is a place for these tiny amps, but call me a dinosaur, I like the big old "iron"💪🏻😅😇

fuzz and really high notes? yeah, um don't do that for demos please

That distorted sound is absolute crap.
It’s a very harsh sounding amp. Not my flavor.
These don't sound that great to my ears.
