Unbelievable serendipity! I posted a question just yesterday on Reddit asking this EXACT question! You cleared it up! As an added benefit, your jazz compositions, arrangements, and performances are brilliant and inspiring! Thank you so much.
Thanks for the tutorial. It took me several tries to get this to work because my folder tree was overly complex and I kept pointing into the wrong folder. But, I finally got it to work!
Thanks! Alternative workflow is to download a suitable picture to the folder created in NI Resources image folder. Open it with MS Photos and save a copy in the same folder as MST_artwork.png. Delete the original downloaded photo if you wish. Worked for all my 8Dio-library images downloaded.
If anyone is viewing this in 2024... Kontakt 8 uses the "NKS2_software_tile.webp" file in the same folder locations as shown in this video. The dimensions are 420x316. Everything else is the same info regarding this video. If you utilize the method in this video completely it will still work, but the ratio of the dimension is taller in Kontakt 7 so in Kontakt 8 it will cut off a bit of the top and bottom... plus using the new method will give higher resolution images anyway.
Just spent an enjoyable hour adding images to 5 third-party Kontakt 7 instrument folders, thank you. FYI, the only 'failure' I had was with The Wildmother's Dulcimer. This is the exact name as shown in Kontakt when clicking on the folder, as you advised. It's also exactly how I put it on the NI images folder. Nada. I've tried it without the apostrophe, in both places, but still no luck. If you have any thoughts on why this is so, I'd be grateful for them.
Very clear and helpful thanks. I have a slightly different issue though. In Kontakt Player I have all the images in the library view but in the Side Pane, several of those same libraries only have a dull grey background with the name over it. The NI Resources image folder all have the same image file names as the libraries that do display proper images in the Side Pane but for some reason they don't show them. They are all Soniccouture libraries. Both NI and SC have stated that this is as it should be but I would like to get the Side Pane images to display the colour images that are in the image folder, if that's possible. Any idea how to do that? I'm on a Mac btw. Thanks.
Hey Mark. Sorry for the delayed response.... not sure to be honest. Will post something i am sure regarding images for side pane at some point... Strange that it's Soniccouture only.....
Thank you ! very helpful ! but for some reason (and even after beeing 200 % sure of renamming some folders the right way) the images don't show up in kontakt on a few folders. But successful operation for 99 % of it ! Thanks
In Kontakt 8 when you add sample packs for use in the leap page (one shots) , is there a way to get artwork on to these? As this doesn't seem to work for those. Thanks for the video either way
Good video.. But.. I got it work like you said int the library view and it appears there with it's image all fine and dandy and when I click on it, it launches. But it is no where to be seen in the original kontakt view with all the library names running down the left... Any ideas
Thank you for this video it really helped!! And also i had a question like you searched shevannai and there it has a long horizontal image but in my case it's not showing after i made a ninct file..it shows the name of the vst but how to set the image? can you help please!!
This works but I have two issues. 1) This doesn't work for libraries with Special characters. You have to rename the sample library rescan for it and remove the old one for it to work. Not a huge issue but a little annoying. and 2) the main one, All of my thumbnails upload blurry and there's seemingly nothing i can do about it.
@@JamesSpillingMusic yea I tried that and it was only getting the first one I clicked. So I ended up just stopping cause I wasn't going to add all the stuff it missed on scan one by one hahaha. Maybe they fixed it. I mean I hate the browser anyway so that is part of it. hahaha
It's all to do with nicnt files and then some.... will at some point want to explore this myself. When i do, i will let you know.... for i will be rejoicing!
@@JamesSpillingMusic found a solution, if you take the xml data from the .nicnt file and create an .xml file with the library name and place it in (Mac OS) /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Service Center then the library is displayed in the side pane. Maybe this will help someone)
@@JamesSpillingMusic Oh, I'm sorry for my sloppy typing. There is this window in every Kontakt Version where the libraries are ordered in a vertical scrolling column list view with horizontal pictures. Some libraries though you can just access through "files" and go to the location where they are stored. I look for a possibility to add a library to that vertical scrolling window with pictures :-)
@@JamesSpillingMusic Yes, there are tools to do that, but they still don't make them show up in that main menu window. what a shame. But thank you, if you come across some news, they are highly appreciated!

Thank you so much! This has bugged me for ages! 😅
Thats magic James, very very helpful. Being a bit fussy about these things the no image files bugs me no end
Thank you!!!!!! This was pushing my OCD to its limits! New Sub! As a side note, I used a JPG by accident, and as you mentioned, it still worked.....
Thanks for the tutorial.

Very useful. I’ll try this. It’s really very annoying that they have dropped the ball on this.
Thank you, worked like a charm !
Thank you James 😀

Well done and thanks so much
thank you a lot. Well explained.
Nice to know! I did a very similar video but for Pigments third party soundsets, just in case it couldbe useful for anyone.
I love you, you liberate me!!
Brilliant!
Clear and concise. Thank you.
Do you know how to tack those libraries with type and character?

Thank you for this brillant advice, but now the library appears with the thumbanils in the new browser of Kontakt but not in the classic browser...
Thanks! I'm trying to make me own little custom Kontakt Library. Do you maybe know how to import images for custom libraries?

Can we also change the artwork of the VST itself when we open it?
Hello, I have 2 banks installed with this version, but when I click on Overview, nothing opens, has anyone encountered such a problem?
is there a way to fix the sidebar icon?

You're a fucking legend mate!
How come I open Kontakt 7 and dont have any of those icons above next to Kontakt name?
Not sure....do you have the full version? It may be a Kontakt Player thing...
Super 🎉❤👍💪😘
Could you plz make a separate vdo for mac users
Damn!!!! That's over 500GB kontakt files.😯
My PC would crash every second.
Is there a way to add multiple 3rd party plugs at one time into the library?
Yep, just add another link per library in the import section..... i presume you could add a ton of them in one go.

Thanks so much for that... will try it out.
Did you figure it out?@JamesSpillingMusic
I sadly haven't had time yet! I will keep you posted when i have.
But how do I get any Library into that troll Window in Kontakt?
Sorry. I don't understand. Do you mean libraries that require full version of Kontakt? Also what's the troll window?

Ok. So for 3rd party Kontakt libraries you need to create a nicnt file. I haven't got round to doing it yet but will let you know when i do!!
