Use Epic Fight. Really cool souls-like combat that is balanced, also has cool animations and compatible with other mods. Better combat is an option, but it really doesn't change Minecraft combat whatsoever, just adds animations. Epic fight also comes with new weapons like katana, spear, great sword (two handed weapon so you cant use a shield) and skill books (which give you skills like blocking, parry and dodge rolling)
Does it happen to anyone else that it doesn't let you finish the Realm RPG Pillagers mission: Request and Reward 2:24 ? I have all 4 Pillagers noses in my inventory and it won't let me claim
Aerlune is definitely in early stages of development, so I'm sure its attack animations will be refined further down the road.

slashblade is op, yeah, but it makes some great pvp with friends, highly recommend to play with it in multiplayer
