The entire spark eating scenario wasn't a thing in the movies. Since they said "we couldn't save him" we can imply he was alive for a little while after being torn in half due to energon loss. and yes, transformers can survive a certain amount of time without a lower torso.

He probably lived for atleast 1 minute or 2 after being ripped in half by Megatron, could've used to Allspark shard to bring him back like they did with Megatron by having new body parts but Jazz probably wouldn't of wanted to come back.

I'd forgotten how brutal Movie Megatron was poor jazz man would've loved to see how he interacted with people through the entire five films.
