- These first few episodes break down a lot of interesting things-specifically the idea of a global girl group in a competitive environment where whole countries are, allegedly, throwing all their support behind one contestant. Is this fair for the majority nationality on the show (American)? Also the girls are very open about how difficult this journey is. Hybe, take care of the girls, PLEASE
The Debut: Dream Academy is a survival show produced by HYBE Entertainment and Geffen Records for a 6-member global girl group. There are a total of 20 participants. The voting will be held on Weverse starting on September 6th. The show will start airing on September 1st, 2023. The live finale on November 17th will reveal the group name and members. All content will be available on their UA-cam channel and Japan’s ABEMA. (thank u kprofiles for this description!)

Honestly not surprised a lot of the girl's support come from their countries, considering how Hybe introduced the show and how there are no episodes, people will obvi vote trainees based on their nationality/ethnicity

Exactly. What else are they supposed to vote on? Visuals? For the most part, all the girls are equally pretty. We know little about their personalities are how they interact with each other.
The casual fan doesn't know enough about vocal and dance technique to differentiate who is truly top tier and who is more average. And because they were introduced by nationality and ethnicity, that's what people are going to focus and vote on. There was a kpop producer who watched all the fancams and picked Samara as the one person who was debut ready. I had NO idea because I don't have that kind of background.
This video was better than all their material because the editing made it fun and interesting. Idk why but Dream Academy gives me somber vibes
i think they really intended it to happen since the whole show will be produced by netflix so yeah they makin sure that the fun will be displayed there and not in hybe plus videos

It was hard for her because she was one of the least popular american contestants and one of the least popular of all the contastants overall. But there are american contestants who were popular like Lara, Daniela and Emily, so for me, it doesn't make sense. This is the kind of comment that wouldn't make sense in almost any context
@@gicelemiranda4245 Emily didn’t rank very high in the last elimination either, even though she is performing very well. Lara is Indian American so that is different. It’s true that Americans don’t vote with the same pride for their country mentality, so that becomes a disadvantage if other contestants are getting votes based on their country of origin. This is what I meant by context.

Actually, it's a great and respectful thing that the CEO treated them as business partners instead of products like what other how agencies always do. Like how he gave every member of BTS company shares before BigHit went public, making all of them overnight millionaires... he knows his company won't be where it is now without the help of his business partners!
I don’t think the issue with American support is because there are a lot of Americans but because Americans don’t really think that way when it comes to choosing who to support. Other countries maybe feel more national pride around their person getting chosen

The group that Samara would be part of was Now United, she was doing really well and was the Brazilian public's favorite to replace the intriguing Brazilian (ANY) but something happened and they discarded her, leaving her with text only for two terrible famous Brazilian boys

most ppl will vote based on their countries, it is not something that you tell them before they do it. if you want to guide them, tell them, and they'll consider voting according to your guidelines. but you can't stop them from choosing whom they relate to.

The whole Nayoung situation was the worst take the jugde could give. She had 10 secs and devoured her ten seconds in comparison to the other girls. Her delivery was great and as such she was noticed. This show is shady, cause no one questioned the line distribution.
So sad she wanted to be a sololist cause her debut was so secured always in the top 3 during the votings and her vocals is amazing
The contestants that caught my eye so far are nayoung, yunchae, megan, sophia, lexie, and ua. hope this girls debut. i feel sad for mei she should've gotten through. i was also rooting for her. sadly, she got eliminated 😢

Actually, I was cautious when I heard that there was a Brazilian among the 20 girls, mostly because of the "thing" with Leia (if you know, you know). That left me with a bad aftertaste. I'm now more secure about Samara, her behavior seems ok, she seems like a good and respectful girl, studious ,a hard worker, cheerful, caring, a bit more of a ~chill vibe~, basically all the good qualities a Brazilian would like to see shown as a representation of the country. I'm cheering for her as well as for Manon, Lara, Sophia and Mei, even if the judges don't choose them for the final team, I will still wish for their success in life.

Uhh, Idk how to break it to you if you haven't heard already but Samara has been liking posts on tiktok that are apparently racist towards Indians (though being friendly enough for Lara to call her a "soulmate") and Zionist. And she's part of this evangelical church there that propogates anti-Indian and anti-Chinese rhetoric. So maybe you did have the right to feel a tad bit concerned.
I know Gabi from Blackswan seems ok, so at the very least Brazilians don't have completely terrible people representing them.

@@annagurtner9606 noo totally disagree cuz she's 100% debuting based off her talents alone and potential to grow more compared to the other trainees and also as a representative of Korea cuz of Nayoung who will most likely be eliminated. I doubt manon to make it to the final lineup as for the 3 missions, she hasnt even gotten a single priase from the judges and its very much disappointing as a viewer itself cuz she doesn't really show her talents well enough and the reason mainly is due to her expressionless performances since mission 1, she hasn't improved her facial expressions even though there were a lot of time given to her to practice.

I’m not sure why so many people are bothered by the members being asked to pick who they would want in a group/eliminated. Yes it was a very tense moment that must’ve been difficult for them, but this is also very normal standard questions for trainees. Most groups out there were asked things like this as lineups got decided, even if it was never shown to the public.
Since there’s not a lot of behind the scenes content to thoroughly get to know the contestants skills and personalities I actually really valued getting to see this input from the members since they would know best.
