That is a serious problem. I teach English to Koreans and Japanese through a certain platform. I always tell them to stop trying to make an accent like mine but instead they should focus on my enunciation. I told them accents are deep rooted and almost impossible to change. I have Chinese friends who were born in the UK but still you'll hear the Chinese accent in their speech sometimes.

I beg to disagree, I have been teaching Koreans for over 20 years, and yeah, there are a couple of improvements such as the availability of English Kindergarten (mostly rich people can afford it), and more exposure of Koreans to foreigners as they welcome more foreign teachers in their schools and academies BUT English curriculum in their school and academies haven't changed for the past decades, at school, they start teaching English subject at 3rd grade, their hagwons(English academy) focus more on vocabularies and grammar. There are just very minute numbers of academies that do speaking which I heard is much more expensive. Korean household spends a lot on their kid's English education and yet the progress is too slow... AND do Koreans dislike SEAn's, absolutely!!! c'mon, she's daydreaming, majority of Koreans look down on SEAn's until NOW, our brown skin, our jobs in SK, and our economy, etc- Koreans depict their distaste in media, in YT, in the movies, and even when we talk to them face to face.
The problem is with the curriculum. The kind of English taught in korea is too much focused on its grammar part or from a part if learning in school which is quite distant from practically speaking English. You need to have a more of experience in talking or speaking a language to have a hold on it

When I went to Seoul in 88'. I have a hard time communicating with them in English. Sign language is the way. They even went to the Philippines just to learn English. Unlike Hong Kong in the 80s. 30 years have passed. Korea even past Japan in terms of English efficiency.

Eh when I was stationed in Korea a few years ago I’ve noticed if you have a darker skin color some people are rude to you. But I will say it was the older taxi drivers that were like that.

When I went to Seoul in 88'. I have a hard time communicating with them in English. Sign language is the way. They even went to the Philippines just to learn English. Unlike Hong Kong in the 80s. 30 years have passed. Korea even past Japan in terms of English efficiency.
Which is amazing. Their grandparents were poor and worked hard to make their descendents to live well.

Koreans are similar to Japanese in that they treat foreigners differently, especially in countries with better economic development. If they are white people, they have a different attitude.

I’ve seen videos by African Americans vloggers who moved to Korea address this topic, and what they shared was that racism is present there, but it’s extremely tame to what they experienced when they lived in the USA.
Their conclusion basically was, “I’m going to experience it [racism] wherever I go, but I experience way less of it living in Korea.”

Try speaking with a Filipino kid. English is the second language of Filipinos. Spanish is 3rd. Filipinos are tri lingual.
