Thanks for watching Puppy Separation Anxiety - Prepare for Your Return to Work After the Pandemic! Have you been preparing your puppy for your return to work?
I am fostering puppies (two littermates) and this has been my schedule; 7am to 8am - feed and play. leave them in their playpen from 9am to 12pm; feed and play from 12pm to 1pm. leave in their playpen form 1pm to 5pm; feed and play from 5pm to 8pm. the time in their playpen they usually sleeps of the time.
@@robin212212 this is a great idea, any idea what steps will be next when they aren't sleeping so much? Also, when out of site from your pup, do they know you are still 'home' so you actually need to leave?
Thank you for this video and all the tips! I’ve been seeing some comments online negatively judging who’s getting a puppy now as if we are not considering life after the pandemics. Of course we are! Or at least I am!! But we are also home right now and that extra home time can be extremely useful for welcoming a puppy and - as you mention - crate training. On top of that, this coming year will most likely be a “no traveling abroad” year for many, which is also more time at home for house training. I do hope all the other new-pet-parents out there have a game plan for what’s coming after and enjoy the most of these unusual times for training! 🐾
If there’s any single blessing from this pandemic for me is a confirmation that time with family is one of the most important things. Jasper is my commitment to reducing the pace of the rat race. He’s a lovable 18 months and my only immediate family. Living in an apartment complex has created opportunities for us to interact with the local children that are left unsupervised outside. They love to pet him and hunger for attention and responsibility. I’ve allowed them to walk him while providing some guidance. I thank God for bringing him into my life and hope you have great success. Stay safe.

I let her outside, then put her back in her pen/crate until I’ve had time to get her breakfast and everything else ready for the day. She immediately starts whining when I leave the room. Hi Michele! I just got a new 8 week old pup and he loves to bite my pants and will not let go even if I try to redirect him to his favourite chew toy. What should I do? Also he will be a pretty big dog so I am trying to make sure he gets over his biting stage before he is too big and it will really hurt.
Erik MJ my 8 week old puppy did this too, she is now 10 weeks old and still does it from time to time but A LOT less. Just keep trying to re-direct, try using different toys and even treats/kibble. Also, make sure you’re re-directing your pup to do something else like sit. Otherwise, your pup will think you’re rewarding the biting. Jasper is a chihuahua mostly and came to me from a private animal rescue at 18 months old as my emotional support animal. Do the puppy training videos work the same for young adults as for puppies? I’m a combat veteran with my own anxiety issues. He’s got lots of issues I presume are from his previous need for eyes- and hands-on attention, plus a new home environment. Into the first week I was nearing my limit, especially with the need to be right there with me-which helped and hurt me and him. His anxiety with being in his wired crate and smaller plastic crate (for sleeping) produces Hypermobility and breathing. The larger crate allows more roaming anxiety that ends up with diarrhea and pee everywhere, which has severely challenged me with thoughts he might be better off with someone else. However, I truly believe we are meant to rescue and love each other. He’s a lot like a baby, wanting to be picked up all the time, which I have resorted to creating opportunities for him to challenge himself by jumping into and out of the truck. He’s unlike the puppy Yorkie and other older dogs I use to have. That’s why I’ve got to learn a new strategy with your videos. Plus, I cannot seem to watch them fast enough, which is another stressor for me. I just have to consciously practice my breathing techniques. Hopefully, everything will eventually work out. Thanks Michelle from 🐕 Jasper and Dennis.
Can we prevent seperation anxiety without use of a crate? Even when the pandemic isn't going on i am home almost all the time as I am disabled. We don't really have the space to crate train and don't really want to but I want to make sure my doggy is OK to be alone in times where she does need to be left alone for short amounts of time. (I havnt got a pup yet just planning ahead) . Can you do the same thing but without the crate? For example having them in the kitchen with a stair gate so they can still see you at first and then slowly building up time and eventually shutting the door?
Hi. We got a puppy three months ago and he has become extremely attached to my mom. Whenever someone takes him away from her or she tries to leave he screams, barks, and and tries so hard to dig or run to her. I have scratches from him trying to get to her while I was holding him. What should I do?
It’s just so hard! it’s kinda a pandemic right now but I’m getting a pup and I go to school for 8 hours! My grandma wouldn’t even want to be there with him😔. 8 HOURS!!!
We got our 8 wk puppy yesterday. Most training books and videos employ favorite toys or treats to reinforce good behavior. So far, he is not very motivated by treats, and has no favorite toys. Do expect too much at 8 weeks?
This is very common for little pups at this age. The transition to your home was quite a lot to handle and we need to give pup time to settle in and adjust to his new home and family. Here's a great video on puppy expectations that can help you ua-cam.com/video/wpHz3fcnugg/v-deo.html
Hi, i am trying to teach my dog to stay in te crate but what if my puppy is peeing in its blanket? it's suposse that she must be learning to wait for potty time at least 2 hour if she is 3 months old. am I right? what can I do?
We don't recommend any blankets or bedding in the crate for at least the first few months or until pup is past potty training and chewing stage. On our channel we have about 5 different crate training videos that might be super helpful.
YES IT HAD every PERSON AND THIER MATE I CANT BELIEVE IT THIER JUST GETTING A DOG TO ENTERTAIN THIER KID AND THE OG PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT DOGGOS WHO CANT PAY HEKKIN 3000£ FOR AN F1 LABRADOODLE ITS JUST RUBBISH 😓😓
my pup pees because of his anxiety when I leave him alone. He's 9 weeks old, but will pee 3-4 times within an hour if he's alone. So putting him in his crate becomes tricky. Any suggestions?
Maybe like when you are in the house and put him in crate with the treat has him going in , practice few min a day , then gradually extend the time , so he get used to the crate and adding on closing door of the crate adding on leave the house for 5 min and then 10 min etc . I tried on my dog , it worked , she is 8 now , it just reminded me when she was a puppy she can cry for hours if I leave , I can hear all the way
My puppy has really bad separation anxiety already and I will take complete fault for that because I didn’t get a play pen like I wanted to when I first got him. But now I’m trying to get him use to the play pen and kennel and he will cry for an hour or so without even stopping. What do I do? Still let him cry? I’ve had him for 5 days already at least before getting the pen so he’s use to being with me 24/7. I had to run an errand today and was gone for over an hour as well and when I returned I heard him still crying outside of my apartment.😥
Why keep the poor puppy/dog 🐶 in a crate? That’s so messed up. Maybe behind a closed barrier but a crate? Trapped in there? That’s cruel. How about you try sitting in a small crate for 6-8 hours.
Using a crate is an essential part of raising and training a puppy. When used correctly with the proper training, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble, a place for rest or downtime, and are great for a reset or time out. Crates are never used as punishment; “bad dog” [SLAM the door closed]- that’s not what we do when your puppy is getting on your nerves or getting into trouble. Instead, your puppy needs to have a positive association with their crate.
I have a 3 year old dog (we adopt him only 6 months ago) thaat has a looot of separation anxiety he goes crazy when we leave him alone at home, he doesnt desstroys , but does tries to scape, we havent figure the way to calm him down at this age. We have a new 2 month old puppy and im training him with your advice, is doing good, but im scared that he will get anxiety as the dog if we leave them together and he sees how the dog gets when he leave. Ant advice? thank you in advance!!
We have a blog post that could be really helpful for you to read after watching this video. www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-separation-anxiety-prevention/
my 9week old boxer puppy doesn't want to stay or play alone in her playpen and when I locked her inside crate (not for a nap) she was going crazy there 🙄 we crate train her all the time. I will not traumatize her by locking her for an hour? I think we snuggle her and spend time in her play pen way too much, I really don't want her to have separation anxiety 😫
Separation training is very important. Keep on working up to crate training during the day and building up the duration of her being in there slowly and gradually. We go over this in our course in depth. Check it out! 30 Days to Puppy Perfection: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
I left my puppy once for 10 minutes and she peed in the crate out of fear and was barking like crazy. Haven't left her since, ONLY because I live in an apartment ant don't want to get in trouble with noise.. In 3 weeks i'm moving to a house so I can work on crate training more thoroughly.. I don't mind the whining/barking as much as the peeing in the crate out of fear . Hopefully it works out! She's good sleeping in her crate at night however
We wish you luck in this transition!! We recommend enrolling in our course for extra tips and tricks help with training: 30 Days to Puppy Perfection: howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course/. This really varies on the dog based on his/her comfort level. Have you seen a more recent video on this topic? I think it'll help answer a few more questions: ua-cam.com/video/2gSQe2hTrE4/v-deo.html
I’ve just started crate training my puppy for me leaving . I’m having so much trouble. I’ve watched your crate training video and have followed. I let her cry it out and she cried for a solid hour and a half/ 2 hours. And that’s because I let her out after she was quite for 1 minute. Vomit eeeverywhere. I’m going to keep up the training!
@@rubygomez2848 oh no , I just got my puppy 4 days ago and last night he slept through the night for the first time. It did take a while for him to calm down when we put her in him in his crate. But luckily it's just a little whining nothing major. I hope your pup gets better at it. I know it's hard
Melett23 as long as you keep doing it I’m sure he’ll get use to it soon! My dog has only slept in there once and that was after a very tiring day. As soon as she woke up and realized she was in the cage. Just horrible. I wish you luck on your puppy parenthood. I’ve just taught mine sit lay and spin. The only downsides have been chewing things and crate training
So say I want to crate him while I get dinner done, should I cover his crate during the day even if I’m right in the other room? Shouldn’t he gets used to being in his crate while seeing us.
I'm worried about my neighbors getting angry at me for letting my dog bark while training it. I live in Apartments. I work 8 hours on weekends and 5 on weekdays with two days off. How is it possible to not be around my dog for hours?
It is definitely possible to work full time when you have a puppy, but the first few months might take some creative problem solving on your part! As you can see from the sample schedule in the New Puppy Starter Kit, puppies have a lot of needs! Puppies can hold their bladder approximately an hour per month of age, so you’ll have to arrange for someone to take him or her out for potty breaks. But puppies also have needs for human engagement, enrichment, mental and physical exercise and of course… cuddling! As they grow they can be left home alone (always in the crate) for increasing periods when you are away at work. But for the first few months - even up to a year - you’ll likely need some additional help from friends or family to meet all of their needs. We have a great video on puppy schedules, as well as what to expect during the first year of a puppy’s life. Those two will be great resources for you as you plan! If you’ll be working from home, we have a great one on that topic too! Puppy Schedules: ua-cam.com/video/7tVJSbcHJVw/v-deo.html What to Expect the First Year: ua-cam.com/video/wic1IGMReT8/v-deo.html
Great video, how long is too long with crying? Have 9 week old y orkie, put her in crate to sleep, she couldn't see me and screamed for 45 min!! Probably wrong but I picked crate up, put on bed where she can see me and she goes right to sleep.

we are getting our puppy next weekend but i will be going back to work 3 days a week and I cannot return in the day to let him out, what do you suggest we do since with social distancing we can't have a friend or puppy sitter over? we have a crate a pen ready for him but there won't be anyone home for ~ 8hrs 3 days a week
deannasun hi. I work 2 days a week 9-10 hours a day and my puppy was fine. I did everything she said. Especially leaving him in his crate/pen for a few hours a day every day after exercise or play (I would go out or go into a different room) at first he whined for a couple of minutes but quickly settled. I always made sure on the days I worked that I got up earlier than I used to so I could play with or exercise my dog for about 45 mins to an hour before I put him back in the crate and left for work. I also never made a fuss of leaving. I just walked out the room when I left like normal. However, he wasn’t just in a crate. His crate was left open into a little play pen area with his water and a couple of toys so he could sleep or play with his toys if he wanted to which I trained him to do by playing in the pen with him. Because I work long hours on those two days and have no one to help out on those two days, I knew he wouldn’t be able to hold it in for that long so I made him a fake grass pee potty. I bought a small piece of fake grass on amazon and a crate base from Amazon. I put a pee pad in the crate base with the fake grass on top. He quickly learnt to use his fake grass area. We don’t mind having to change the pee pad every other day. When we are home he will go in the garden or sometimes on the fake grass. We have a cat litter in the house already and don’t really see the difference, it’s no big deal to us. Of course, this is a personal choice. My chihuahua is very good at being left alone. He is also left alone over night in his crate/pen in the front room for about 8 hours and he never whines or barks. I did sleep in the front room with him the first two nights as he was only eight weeks old (not sure if I should have done that but it turned out okay, I think it just showed him that this was his new home and I was there to take care of him). He is a lovely affectionate, happy and confident dog. I hope this helps.
deannasun ps I also leave a radio station (a talking station not constant music) on low for him when I go to work for company and so he is t spooked by every little noise.
@@nupurgupta9210 he's a rollercoaster because it's hard to keep him on a schedule, some days i work 4hrs and some days i work 6-8hours and no one is home to let him out. some days he does really well and others he wines and barks for 2 hrs :( it's also really hard to get him potty trained for the same reason

Hi. We got a puppy three months ago and he has become extremely attached to my mom. Whenever someone takes him away from her or she tries to leave he screams, barks, and and tries so hard to dig or run to her. I have scratches from him trying to get to her while I was holding him. What should I do?
Good advice. I have done two local news stories and newspaper articles on this related topic.
It’s just so hard! it’s kinda a pandemic right now but I’m getting a pup and I go to school for 8 hours! My grandma wouldn’t even want to be there with him😔. 8 HOURS!!!
You may need to hire a dog walker to let the puppy out while you are at school.
Thank you!! Excellent advice. I’ll start today!!
🐶🐾❤️ My hoomans will have to deal with this! I got super attached , woof! Woof! 🐶🐾❤️
Finally some timely puppy training videos!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Thank you! Great idea/s, because I am worried about leaving her....we need to start now.
Thanks so much I’m gonna get a cavalier King spaniel
YES IT HAD every PERSON AND THIER MATE I CANT BELIEVE IT THIER JUST GETTING A DOG TO ENTERTAIN THIER KID AND THE OG PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT DOGGOS WHO CANT PAY HEKKIN 3000£ FOR AN F1 LABRADOODLE ITS JUST RUBBISH 😓😓
if you're complaining about the price, you can adopt a dog for cheap, but the vet fees are still very expensive.
the weird meow the adoption centres aren’t open in our area thx tho
What to do when a puppy been with mom and dad for to long
I’m getting my new xl bully puppy in a couple of weeks now 😝
my pup pees because of his anxiety when I leave him alone. He's 9 weeks old, but will pee 3-4 times within an hour if he's alone. So putting him in his crate becomes tricky. Any suggestions?
Maybe build positive experience of crate training before you put him in for a period of time .
I had to run an errand today and was gone for over an hour as well and when I returned I heard him still crying outside of my apartment.😥
thank you so much for this video
don't get a puppy if you are incapable of training.
dogs should be licenced.
What about those of us who have puppies from a shelter that cannot be crated??
i tried to ignore my 2 months pup whenever I left home. now he is 6 months and barks excessively every time everytime I leave help
Lately I have left him in the crate and covered his crate with a towel is that recommend?
So basically let them have alone time and don't give them attention when they cry or bark a lot.
my 9week old boxer puppy doesn't want to stay or play alone in her playpen and when I locked her inside crate (not for a nap) she was going crazy there 🙄 we crate train her all the time.
30 Days to Puppy Perfection: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-perfection-course-learn-more/
What do I do with a 15 week old puppy the first night since it isnt crate trained yet? I dont want the dog to sleep with us.
We recommend enrolling in our course for extra tips and tricks help with training: 30 Days to Puppy Perfection:

Thank you! My years-long awaited puppy is coming this Saturday!
Hi👋I'm a New Subscriber to Your Channel
Can I put my dog leashed along in the garden?
It will really help if you can provide information on how long can a pup be left alone depending on their age
Has there been improvement?
Melett23 no. I’ve tried sitting with her but still freaks out. I’m thinking she may just doesn’t like the confined space.
Try Zak George's training videos, not all puppies respond well to "crying it out"
Yup my dog is a pandemic puppy! 😭😭😭
So say I want to crate him while I get dinner done, should I cover his crate during the day even if I’m right in the other room? Shouldn’t he gets used to being in his crate while seeing us.
don't always cover the crate, I recommend covering the crate when they sleep.

@@HowToTrainADreamDog Thanks!
is there a way to do this without a crate?
There was a Pandemic!?
Great video, how long is too long with crying? Have 9 week old y orkie, put her in crate to sleep, she couldn't see me and screamed for 45 min!! Probably wrong but I picked crate up, put on bed where she can see me and she goes right to sleep.
it's good for them to see you because it makes them feel safer! I'm not an expert but I think it's fine.
Thank you.
my birthday is on the 5 of may

Hey I don't use a crate I put them outside of the house.
Melissa Hutchins buy a crate
we are getting our puppy next weekend but i will be going back to work 3 days a week and I cannot return in the day to let him out, what do you suggest we do since with social distancing we can't have a friend or puppy sitter over? we have a crate a pen ready for him but there won't be anyone home for ~ 8hrs 3 days a week
deannasun hi.
@deannasun how is your puppy doing when you are away at work? I am getting my puppy next week and I work 3 days a week too.
