I've been listening to many performances for a presentation. This is the most masterful of all of them: every voice clear, every line balanced and true, every lovely melody in all its simplicity. Furtwangler was a great genius.

The very first chord is already a soul-warming thing. What a master he was.

Wonderful music making, the opening allegro really surprised me (and some of the performers) but once it settled in it was brilliant. I love hearing "performances" where they don't go back and "fix" things. Wonderful.

It's great, but Bach and Brahms are not in the same league.
Actually, nobody is in Bach's league. Bach, Mozart and Beethoven each stand alone... the best of everyone else doesn't reach their shoes.

+Brian Donohue - it is so refreshing to read a comment which does not rate composers against each other, but instead emphasizes their common greatness. Not to talk about your insight into this Serenade, so enlightening...

I first heard that music in “ Amadeus”, where maestro Salieri,in envy, admires the beauty and simplicity of that melody! Heavenly, but Herr Mozart was never wrong, even his simplest dances are products of genius.

Top of The top. BELLISSIMA. (i'm italiano) "Molto Allegro" is may be a little fast but It is great.
3rd Movement movement MUST be declared "Unesco" humanity patrimonium. It makes me cry. After this, only The Members of Berliner with The Great Karl Leister 1982 performance reach this level. Op bad Furthwangler have Not Karl Leister.
Orpheus Chamber di Aldo a Good work in 1987 but Cannon be compared wit this or with The Berliner execution.
The sound lire 13 solois( Great soloist) but i miss The "Choir" effect. It seems liKe everyone musica is playng his parte for himself And Here And there, i Can hear a " First sight" sensation.
I Bag tour pardon for My poor USA English.

Y'all do realize that this Fartwangler was Hitler's favourite conductor and even more than the Nazi party member since 1935 von Karajan made itseem that Naziism was not only normal but uplifitng

@@ordinaryshlepper1193 Not true, if you consult the Nürnberg documents Furtwängler ( Furtwangler) was never NAZI member, and was cleared. He made a naive decision to stay in Berlin, for the sake of music. He was “persuaded” to perform for Hitler a few times, which allowed him to save several Jewish musicians from the death camp.
The story of German artists and musicians during ww2 was repeated many times, many paid with their lives for disobeying Hitler’s orders.

As it is not orchestral music, this is chamber music! Predecessor of Beethoven's Septet and Schubert's Octet, Brahm's 2nd Serenade, and a few other works.
