i got some copyright issues so the part where i talk about NOPE got a bit chopped up 🥲 sorry about that! basically what I said is that I love how Jordan Peele is able to talk about so many different social issues and commentaries in his movies while incorporating horror, and Nope is not the exception. I interpreted Nope as a way of saying how much our society now is focused on getting that "money shot" and risk their lives or others' lives in order to make money or claim fame. Humans will go as far as even using animals purely for entertainment and sooner or later they will turn on us for that. This movie was horrifying in such a smart way and left me thinking about it for so long after watching it, which is why I loved it. If you wanna know more of my thoughts I also made a spoiler post about it on my instagram! again sorry that the video had to get trimmed during the Nope part 😭
Monika’s content really reflects her own cheerful and bubbly personality. She’s got what it takes to sweep audiences off their feet with the use of her own charm and charisma.
I think I really enjoyed You've got mail because of the aesthetic and the confort that it gave me. The little bookshop, NY in autumn kinda vibe. I don't know, I just remember myself crying a lot because of how soothing it was haha
i love love your content, monika!! it's so nice to just hear someone talking about movies without being very pretentious or anything. you also remind me so much of a uni professor i had last semester! you speak & explain things very similarly to her! love it
I'm part of Gen Z but I love Sleepless in Seattle and You've got Mail. I get why they don't make sense and the characters are not the best but they just feel magical. The dialogue is on point like in all Nora Ephron films but their also just so comforting to watch. At the end I just get that flitty feeling in my heart that "maybe love is real". Idk why it's these movies that do it for me but, to each their own! I think everyone has those movies that objectively are bad but just give them the feels, and if not for that why do we even watch movies?
Ghost World’s dry humor, weird characters, and pretty aesthetic made the movie for me. I haven’t read the graphic novel that it was based on, maybe that’s also why a handful of people really enjoyed the flick too. Either way, really enjoy hearing you talk about movies Monika!
You’ve Got Mail is actually a modern adaptation of a hungarian play that also inspired the film The Shop Around the Corner (1940). personally i don’t like You’ve Got Mail for the reasons you mentioned, but Shop Around the Corner is one of my favorites and i would definitely recommend it :)
honestly, i understand the romcoms with meg ryan and tom hanks slander lol, i actually dislike sleepless in seattle, but you've got mail gives me such good fall vibes that I can't resist, even though I dislike the characters loved your reviews, can't wait to watch the movies you've mentioned (and those kdramas are so cute aw I love them too)
Extraordinary Woo Yung Woo was such an interesting experience for me as a law student. On one side, the law law stuff feels surprisingly realistic for a show (albeit a bit dramatised). I haven't much experience in court rooms myself yet, let alone in Korean ones, but they look believable. On the other side, some of the solutions of a case are only found so late into the episode, that it's kind of destroying my believability of certain characters. For example, some whale-moments Woo gets are like standard stuff most lawyers get taught in their first year. So it's kind of odd to believe that nobody at a prestigious law firm thought of it. Woo herself didn't think of some things earlier while she is a genius. Admittedly, sometimes certain elements of the case only surfaced late into the episode, which does indeed change the course of action. Either way I'm all in on the personal drama of the show. Plus sometimes it's fun to feel like I'm a smart lawyer when in actuality, I'm far from Woo's level.
One of the reasons I love You've Got Mail is definitely nostalgia. But I think the premise was so much fun. Two people who love each other online and hate each other in real life is such a fun dynamic. It also brings up interesting discussions about who we are when we are stripped of the context of our life. Do you know someone for real if you know everything about their life or on the contrary nothing about it? Who are they when they are not surrounded by people they know? These two would never fall for each other if it weren't for the e-mails. I don't know. I like thinking about romance and human relationships and who we are when we are alone vs. when we are with other people. And of course, a small bookstore in New York city in fall with a lovely soundtrack is still charming as well. When I first watched the movie, I was too young to be critical about how Kathy's business failed because of Joe and she still went for him or the fact that he manipulated her into liking him via his e-mails in the last parts of the movies. It was framed as romantic, so I took it at the face value. Now I can't appreciate it as much as I did back then, which is kind of sad, because I adore this movie. So, I absolutely agree with you on your criticism but I can't still help but be charmed by this little movie.
I ❤️ Ghost World… and your outfit! Have you seen Loving Vincent yet? It seems just up your alley! I think Ghost World works because of the off putting vibes it gives off, it slowly gets more odd and I think it’s very well done.
I absolutely loved Nope and have been dying to see it again. Easily Jordan Peele’s best film since Get Out. Brilliantly directed, the cinematography, score, and sound design is some of the best I’ve seen and heard all year, there are so many amazingly suspenseful and even horrifying scenes regarding the alien amongst other things, its underlying themes are pretty complex, and the sibling relationship between Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya is so fleshed out and well done. Also Gordy is technically an ape, not a monkey. Also I honestly really liked Lightyear and found it pretty enjoyable yet inspiring. I thought Buzz’s character arc was very well executed, it has a lot of what appreciated about Buzz as a space ranger, the side characters are very memorable, the twist with Zurg was pretty clever, and I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing more from this Buzz. Chris Evans certainly fills in the shoes of the character if you ask me. Far from the best Pixar film though, and the fact that the green aliens from Toy Story are nowhere to be found while Sox for sure would’ve been a toy Andy bought is a major plot hole, but if other Pixar films like Monsters University can get away with continuity errors like that, I don’t see why this can’t either.
Hi Monica! First I totally agree with your opinion on the two romantic movies. Second personally I think that you should not arrange your work desk because it looks great. In my opinion it has a very soft cheerful and enjoyable vibe. About business proposal eh maybe it was the wrong time that I watched it. Don't get me wrong I mostly watch this kind of komedy romance kdramas jdramas movies romcoms but every time that I started a new episode I felt tired from the story because I knew what was going to happen but for what as I saw it still left me with a good feeling. Thank you!
Completely agree with you about “You’ve got mail” and “Sleepless in Seattle”! I hated those movies, the characters are just awful! I think it must be some nostalgia thing for the older generation.
I’m in that generation & never understood why they were so popular. There are so many great romantic movies from that time. It’s a shame that those films are held up to such a level. I did love Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, though. It’s one of my favorite films of the last few years.
I'm part of Gen Z but I love both of them. I mean I get why people hate them, they don't really make sense and when you think about it the characters aren't the best but I feel like there's just something magical about them. I think it's just that people have different taste and that's ok!
Hey Monika! This will be awesome! Some of the best i have seen so far this year are Top Gun Maverick, Nope and X, As for the worst i guess the new Scream movie was a bit disappointing and i didn't like The Gray Man.
watched the new scream in theaters and it was so not worth it for me 😭 the "for wes" was done in poor taste imo, they kinda shit on a lot of what scream was originally about
Amazing video as always! You are always my comfort channel and I love your content!😍 I just recently watched a movie called Lunana a yak in the classroom and it is absolutely beautiful and touches your heart. It is one of those movies that makes you reflect on your personal life and choices, while still being incredibly heart-warming, and based on the kind of movies you recommend in your videos, it is right up your alley, I know you will definitely love it!✨✨
I love Ghost World and I do not understand how it can be considered boring bc i thought it was funny and sad and very moving. I quote many of the lines of the movie frequently. I also loved the graphic novel, it has so much authenticity and weirdness and when I r read it for the first time (i just finished high school) it felt so relatable, I felt seen. Oh, and I liked You've got mail but my absolute favorite is The shop around the corner, the OG version.
"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is a tough nut to crack, unless you sit for a while and gauge where Tarantino's train of thought has been going for the past 10 years. The Before Trilogy continues to be the high bar for Linklater's creative ambitions. His ability to keep things low-key while still packing so much substance into a 2-hour film keeps his art relevant, and "Before Sunrise" during Monika's FOTW was my chance this year to absorb more of the details that keep rising to the surface. The way modern people view horror as *needing* to be the thing that they *don't want* it to be is so bipolar that I'm very ready to give up on human society. "Nope" is the actual definition of horror: it unfolds in a way that gradually crawls under your skin with images that you're forced to think about and process. Thank you for attending this TED Talk.
I really loved you’ve got mail and sleepless in Seattle, they were my favourite movies for a very long time (as well as when Harry met sally). Idk I think it’s just the way Nora ephron writes that makes you overlook the characters questionable actions. I think there’s something in the way the characters talk to each other, especially in the in between scenes when it’s just friends hanging out, as well as the way the movies are shot that feels so comforting. I’m ngl though, when I first watched you’ve got mail I was so surprised that he didn’t buy her bookshop back, that would have been the ultimate romantic gesture and a proper apology for how he treated her.
I recently watched Outer Range with Josh Brolin. A sci-fi show that takes place on a ranch in the midwest. It was a really great mystery/thriller. Candy, Under the Banner of Heaven, and Reservation Dogs were all really great too.
Thanks for your list, Monika. I was really disappointed by "Lightyear" as well. I was expecting it to be better, but it just felt flat and lifeless, despite the incredible voice talent attached.
finding your channel and content was the best thing happening, i love hearing your opinion and comparing it with mine and everything ^^ plus the editing is so cute
I think the world only forgives Joe Fox in you've got mail because its Tom Hanks lmaooo ghost world is one of my favourite movies, think it's a nostalgia thing at this point. watched it as a teenager and I related to the mundane small hometown life, loved Enid and related to her not knowing what she wanted in life! but agree the slow pace snippet of life style isn't for everyone !
I like Once Upon a Time..you just gotta know all the histories behind it. I love Before Trilogy. My fav the 2nd one. Will be seeing Not Okay & Nope. Btw how does one get to go to a movie premiere? Wow you go girl!!
SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE has a special place in my heart because I grew up in Seattle, so seeing all the filming locations has always been a thrill. I also think it's an incredibly charming tale. The dialogue is clever. Each character is memorable and unique. The friendship between Becky and Annie is probably my favorite aspect of the film. They just get each other. Their banter is wonderful. The music is also so lovely.
tidying up your space while recommending movies might be a new concept and i love it 💖 a new level of coziness was reached within your videos☺

Hi Monika! Have you watched Broker? I watched it a few days ago and wanted to know your opinion about it 😊 (IDK if you have a video talking about this movie already, sorry T-T)
I appreciate the content you brought, however I would have appreciated it more if the order of the reviews was more various..the first minutes were all about meh/unsatisfying movies and I found it a bit boring ngl. For the rest, thank you for inspiring me! ♡🌱✨
I personally love you've got mail, i understand ur points abt it tho.. however i didn't really love 500 days of summer, i liked the ending and the cinematography but the movie overall was boring .. thats just my opinion :)
I would really really beg u to watch some movies of Indian cinema!!! Don't go for the famous one's. I'd recommend you to watch -super deluxe -joji -zindagi na milegi dobara -yeh jawaani hai dewani (this one for a Bollywood experience)
You should watch Top Gun Maverick sometime soon. It was just amazing and a spectacular theater experience for me. I feel bad that you didn’t see it since it was incredible.
Not Okay was also a pleasant surprise for me, I thought I was going to hate it. Rather its now one of my favourite films of the year. I absolutely love it. I too would fake being in a terrorist account for the attention of Dylan O'brien.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is definitely a difficult one, I feel you're only going to get real enjoyment out of it if you're familiar with that period of history and all the big stars and events of that time, so I'd certainly say it's less accessible compared to the rest of Tarantino's films. Also, in answer to your question about all the shots of people's feet in the film...well, it wouldn't be a Tarantino film if there weren't loads of shots of people's bare feet
The last 2 movies i've seen were both great, the 1st one is "what's eating Gilbert Grape" i loved this one its so toughing and young Leo Dicaprio did some OUTSTANDING acting in it!!! The 2nd movie is a science fiction movie called "Passengers" this one is very different and very interesting, i think the idea of it is very creative and has never been done before thats why i liked it so much.. What abt you? 👇👇🙃
You´ve got mail is such a dull film, way too longer than it should, and as you said Tom Hanks´character is just a jerk, mean, arrogant man. I don´t understand why people love this movie
Substance over style yet dressed like the girls in the movie. Then, she proceeds to give mediocre, redundant film reviews 🫤 Sleepless and You’ve Got where written by Nora Ephron, which at the time and even now is a big deal for a woman to helm a rom-com. It’s the writing and cultural references that make the film appealing along with the plot devices to keep the characters apart. Taking a film school course would teach you that. But of course, you’d think Peele and K-pop are “uh-mazing!” Groundbreaking.
I obviously did not mean style as in fashion, and the way I’m dressed has nothing to do with what I’m talking about. These are just my thoughts, if you liked both of those movies that’s all good with me, I’m not saying you need to dislike them in fact I asked what is the reason if you do like them. You could’ve told me your reasons for liking the films without being rude to me 🤔

I highly recommended a Japanese movie called “We Made a Beautiful Bouquet”. It has warm feeling and nice aesthetic too. Please go check it ☺️

Thanks for your list, Monika. I was really disappointed by "Lightyear" as well. I was expecting it to be better, but it just felt flat and lifeless, despite the incredible voice talent attached.

I love the aesthetic of your videos😍😍💗
I watched Day Shift and despite enormous plot holes thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be watching Nope next. Thanks Monica.
Once upon a time in... is like the least and most Tarantino movie ever like where is the excitement? And to mush feet which is his signature 👁👄👁
I would really really beg u to watch some movies of Indian cinema!!!
Don't go for the famous one's.
I'd recommend you to watch

You should definitely check out ‘Arcane’ if you haven’t already
You should watch Top Gun Maverick sometime soon. It was just amazing and a spectacular theater experience for me. I feel bad that you didn’t see it since it was incredible.
I saw Inu-Oh in theaters and it was so amazing! Definitely a one of a kind movie!
Okay I love that we are watching the same Kdramas atm.
I actually love once upon a time a hollywood so much , prob also because i really like Margot Robbie 😊
Wow awesome congrats on the movie premire
Once Upon a time in Hollywood definitely wasn't Tarantino's best movie, but I thought it was incredibly enjoyable.
Watch Emily the Criminal! It’s with Aubrey plaza
are you just going to casually skip over how you got invited to a red carpet premiere? lol
Oh I really liked persuasion:D
So many good movies to see! :)
Can anyone please recommend movies with the same feeling as Not Okay and Ingrid goes West???😫
finally someone who gets how weird ghost world is, i felt alone for not liking it
That hair is🔥
💖💖
Since you like Kdramas, do you have a Mydramalist account?
Monika would you please do a room your 😭
That rock opera anime move sounds awesome! It reminds me of Tokyo Tribe (a rap opera Japanese movie). Also, you inspired me to start a movie club.
there's too much stuff around your desk area,,,, you should add more
i feel like me and my girlfriend are the only people in the world who hated Before Sunrise 😭 I found the Ethan Hawke character insufferable
The whole thing is just studio ghibli vibes
I miss your morning routine video
Your name ingraved herein…u really hurt my feelings Monika🥺
You watched these movies where?
The anime references in Nope were a really cool surprise and came out of nowhere, for me at least. was not expecting those references at all :D
Omg yes that akira slide! 🔥
I like your hair is it new
Yesss thank u!
Thank you for answering my ❤️question the color of the hair suits you
You´ve got mail is such a dull film, way too longer than it should, and as you said Tom Hanks´character is just a jerk, mean, arrogant man. I don´t understand why people love this movie
And the worst part is that it could have been a comfort movie for me... I mean, MEG RYAN working in a BOOKSHOP
💕
Ps...you have too much stuff in your room.
You could’ve told me your reasons for liking the films without being rude to me 🤔
You're a beautiful spirit, fly free and know that love follows you miss ⭐
