      I'm lucky my grandma was willing to give me EVERYTHING she had for free. However, when she started out she had bought just a cheap lace pillow. You could use a piece styrafoam with a pillowcase around it for a pillow though 👍

      I started yesterday with clothes pins and it works great. I took an old foam pillow and a piece of cardboard box over the top then hot glued a piece of flannel fabric over it

    I use colored gel pens, that way I can color code the pairs to keep track of them better! It works really well for me as a beginner

    I split my clothespins in two halves (so each pin is a pair), and invested in $1 of sandpaper to make them smooth and not catch the thread. They’re “spangled” by painting the tips with sharpie pens in different colors/symbols.
    I needed to avoid starting another expensive hobby so instead I’m about $10 invested total (thread, sand paper, and longer pins than the ones I use for dressmaking).
    Love that there’s a will and a way to start with basically anything!

      When y’all see the specialized tools for these hobbies, remember, the hobby existed before the tool did. At some point in history, all of these skills are using “makeshift” solutions and learning techniques

    Is it lace because of the pattern and the way it's done or is lace because of the thread you use? I am completely useless when it comes to anything crafty, I couldn't even learn how to knit from my Grandmother who was a pro! Oh yeah and by the way I have just started watching your videos, so if you explain the thread in another video I'm sorry for asking. 😊

    • @GaliciaBee

      No worries, I'm happy to answer questions! Welcome to my channel! 😊
      Lace is decorative cloth defined by patterns of empty space. Lace can be made out of anything - cotton, silk, polyester, etc., even metal thread! It can be made a variety of ways, such as bobbin lace (what you see here), needle lace, tatting, crochet, and knitting. It can be made by crossing threads over one another in a specific pattern, such as the techniques mentioned. But it can also be made by taking away thread from a piece of cloth to create intricate patterns.

    I was disappointed when I visited Belgium and there was only one shop with bobbin lace in a touristy area. I expected the craft to be more widespread there.

    Hoe much thread to put on it though? What happens when the thread runs out? Don't they have something that supports long threads?

    • @GaliciaBee
      @GaliciaBee  17 днів тому +1

      Generally speaking you can measure 3x the length of what you’re working on and it’s usually enough thread. But sometimes you do run out & you just tie more thread on. No big deal. 😊
