After the word FOR we use quantities of time.
I have been here FOR 2 years.
I have been here FOR 2 hours.
I have been talking FOR 30 minutes.
The 1# problem people have is when they use SINCE when they need to use FOR.
It is INCORRECT to say
I have been here SINCE 2 years. = INCORRECT ❌
I have been here SINCE 2 hours. = INCORRECT ❌
I have been talking SINCE 30 minutes.= INCORRECT ❌
After the word SINCE we need to use a time marker.
A: A date or time word . March 12th, last year, since last Winter
or
A : A specific time 2 pm, since 10 Am,
I have been here SINCE the 12th of March
I have been here SINCE 2 pm.
I have been here SINCE last September
