In Brazil, they don’t call it Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
It’s just called jiu-jitsu.
With that said, the jiu-jitsu that I refer to in this video, is from Brazil.
Don’t split too many hairs, or you might go bald.

The way this guy can easily speak & understand the local languages is awesome. Portuguese is not easy and he delivered it.
And also carioca accent is not the easiest brazilian accent to understand
To be fair Portuguese is a fairly easy to pick up out of all those in the world, particularly if you already know Spanish
My sister lived in Brazil when she was 15 didn't know a word of Portuguese now she's fluent

Great content Kurt really enjoyed this episode Igor is such a cool dude thanks for this BJJ insight the interview with master professor was dope also the waterfall, beach and the favela scenes were awesome keep it up bro goodluck Igor on your black belt journey shoutout from Australia.
Kurt you are the real deal hermano. Your willingness to learn about other cultures is so authentic, this is why I believe you have the best content on UA-cam.
When i saw Kurt years ago, i said that if more people were like Kurt there would be peace in the world everywhere!!!
Igor is a wonderful man! Brazilian Jui Jitsu teaches a lot more than just self-defence. Igor is wise and benevolent.
Igor seems like a straight up awesome dude. Wholesome, great guide and that smile is the kind to light up a room! Incredible video!

Igor is a good man, he took the unfortunate things from his upbringing in the favela to become a positive person who lives a life with the main goal to inspire the youth in Brazil.

You won't believe it! A dissagreement started in a club in Denver Colorado. My brother was being attacked by 2 thugs. I joined in to help him. Someone grabed me around the neck. Igor, his professor and the crew seemed like a great bunch of lads. Makes me want to visit Brazil
It’s crazy how you find these amazing people and become like a family member in a day or two. I barely even know my next door neighbors. Best video so far!
I feel like it comes down to the fact that in other parts of the world where people don’t have much, they’re a lot more authentic, and not afraid of judgement. So many people let their ego and prejudices get in the way of opening up to people. I love this video because it’s almost like when you’re children and you literally would meet someone and within a day you’d be great friends, you know? But as we grow up we let our busy everyday lives and our egos get in the way of our human ability to create strong connections with people off of the back of inaugural experiences with people; we’ve become colder. In places of the world like this they are a lot more human, I can’t wait to visit Brazil one day, such a remarkable place with such amazing people…
It's easier than you think. The best way to get someone to open up is to be vulnerable yourself, in fact this is the shortcut on how to become close friends with someone quickly (in my experience). But yes, this depends on who you're talking to as loads of people have their guards up
@@jimbean1371 ya its almost like as long as all are fed, housed, have access to education and some entertainment/recreation the other "freedoms" to acquire lots of money, property and stuff really are irrelevant and just diminish culture and human connection.
@@jimbean1371you summed it up well. Here, in Brazil, we have this quality of treating people as if they were a member of the family. it is so natural that people from other countries find it strange
Charles Do bronx, UFC champion, also grew up in the São Paulo favela and became the organization's top finisher and UFC bonus record holder. Charles do Bronx takes with him the motto that "the favela won". May Igor grow in the sport. Jiu-jitsu saves.
Charles Oliveira and Igor started out in jiu-jitsu under similar conditions, but made different choices. Early on, Charles went to MMA and Igor stayed true to his martial arts roots.
This is one of your best videos… Igor is an amazing person. This world needs more people like him

One of my favorite episodes thus far. So much love and humility. Kurt definitely has a friend for life in Igor.
For what it’s worth, I hardly ever interact (comment, like, etc.) with social media or UA-cam. However, this video was probably one of my favorites of yours if not my favorite. This video did a great job of demonstrating the good parts of life there whilst also talking about the unfortunate things that occur there. I’d love to see you have Igor on more, he seems very genuine and you guys seem to get along very well. I hope you’re doing great Kurt, keep on living brotha!

I dont speak Portuguese but I know you are thanking Igor for inviting Kurt into his home and showing him things important to his life.... and i agree!
This video offers an authentic glimpse into the vibrant heart of Rio de Janeiro, steering clear of clichés and diving deep into the city's genuine culture. With its down-to-earth approach, Kurt captures the raw essence of Rio's streets, its people, and their daily lives, painting a vivid picture that resonates with both locals and outsiders. It's a refreshing take that showcases the true spirit of Rio beyond the postcard views. Well done and thanks!! Look forward to see Igor with you again one day.
As a student of Eddie Bravo and long time Jiu Jitsu practitioner, I have to say I really appreciated this episode. If I ever go to Rio I will look for him.

So cool! I went to Rio in 2010 and went to check out a BJJ gym near Ipanema, I just wanted to go and watch, next thing they're getting me to join in training. I ended up staying in Rio for a year, amazing people, doing capoeira in the favelas too. This brings back good memories. Valeu Kurt!
