Another set of good drills. Try to incorporate the same throwing drills without the glove. It helps to focus on catching first and ball exchange. Nice footwork.

Sure. Have him start with framing practice and working through the ball. Try using just his three fingers with a soft toss to him. Thumb/index and middle finger to catch the ball softly. Have him work with throwing by making his feet straight towards second when doing a jump turn along with having good upper body balance(not pulling his front arm and not trying to use just his throwing arm to get the throw. You can also do some simple blocking by throwing the ball a few feet in front of him and have him watch the ball in and black with his chest/stomach, make sure to include going side to side with the throws. Check out the other video we have on the channel. Catching Drills: Catcher core Strength. There are some good drills on that video.
Catch This I have a quick question. As I mentioned my little guy is just starting out and we’re still figuring basic things out. I thought my son should be giving the target right at knee height or just above his knees. A couple Dads have suggested he raise his mitt up to chest height right below the chin. Is this correct and how would he ever keep a low strike in the zone? Thanks
Edward Lindsey: For your sons age some dads can be saying that just because those pitchers don’t have the control my age has. But as he will get older when the pitchers gain control he can keep his glove low, but it’s a more proper to setup the glove around the knees. In the next week or so we’re planning on making a video about the basics for kids who would like to know like yours.

great video guys! as a catcher this helped a lot. also im looking for new gear and I saw that gear, the all star system 7. how good is it? cuz they're a little pricey. I might get the Rawlings velo 2.0 gear or mizuno samurai. also where is this facility located? im looking for a catching coach as well as a batting coach. I live in San Antonio tx
Honestly its the best gear that Shawn has owned. Very comfortable for him he says. Make sure to use the link in the video it will take you right to the gear. The one reason why Shawn wanted it was for comfort and the chest protector is graded for college level. He will be able to use this gear all the way through high school and on. Hope this helps. Just to add a few things to this. 1. Replace the feet...As he stated in the video. 2. Stagger Feet on the line - He tells him both does on the T. If you have runners on or 2 strikes. Cheat a bit and put left heel on the line and right toe. This gets you ever so slightly ready to throw. 3. Protect the hand!! - You see this kid with his hand on his knee. Thats a broken finger waiting to happen. Hide thumb inside the palm, make a fist. Then hide the fist down by the hip or just tucked behind the chest protector.
