This whole performance and video oozes cool. Not sure Gorran has looked any better than here too. Worth checking out the original video version as this acoustic is quite different from the original song - the video is a lot of fun too and also features one Liv Sangster in it as well. When you dip your toes into Gorran and Romain's solo stuff, you'll see just how different a lot of this is from what they do on their own. That's the beauty of the band - four totally different characters with very varied musical influences and backgrounds which goes to create a real fusion of sounds and genres.
It's like being in the musical kitchen of four deranged chefs... whose individual madness will saute' your brains but - together - will keep your soul fed and satiated. To extend the euphemism, we'll all be so full, we must loosen our pants, yet we still order dessert, because when you see it on the menu, we MUST have it.
Now I've heard the song, I'll have to do the music vid on the sly... but I'm planning a REN/TBP cumulative review, just to reference the tracks I've already heard. In that vid, I will react to one or two tracks I haven't heard. Should be fun. BTW, everything in my perpetually young heart says "gush over how freakin' GORGEOUS Ren is" but my practical mind reminds me "Woman, you could be this dude's mother... snap out of it!" So... I digress...
@@VocalCitizen Now, why the hell would we be practical?! I'm old enuf to be his grandmother but I'm not blind. Therefore, I'm telling you that you need to do "Icarus" live, followed immediately (same reaction) by "Icarus Behind the Push". You will laugh, I promise. And Ren painted gold? Ooooh my.
Going off topic slightly, I love the fact you like Daniel Sloss, I am a Scot by birth and he is so true in what he says about the Scots, so funny because all my cousins are as crazy as he is, dry morbid humour 🤣
Oh, the Slossness Monster... I listen to his audio book "Everyone You Hate Is Going To Die" every night as I'm sleeping, because I love his brogue. I've seen every interview, every special, older footage... I love him! And you're a fortunate man to live in bonny Scotland. I plan to visit your country when I'm able to hop the pond.
@@VocalCitizen I don't live in Scotland now, came south to england as a child but love the old country, I go back as often as i can. My late wife was a very proud American and I took her all over Scotland and she fell in love with it. ❤️
How would anyone not fall in love with Scotland?! If postcards of the country make me breathless, can you imagine the mind-f*ck when I actually go there?!
Big Push was 2017-2022. Ren was blond so probably around 2020, I didn't look. But he is always so playful! As far as his sickness, I would say he had plenty of symptoms but not actively sick. Does that make sense?
Ok cool cool.... It does make sene. With my own particular maniacal medical madness, I can relate. Four major systems, all glitchy and weird, fighting for attention.
Been binging all your Ren/TBP/Chincilla reactions tonight. Thanks for making me smile. 😊 Have you heard Precious or Dignity by TBP? If not, can you add them to your list? They are probably my favorite ones, although I love them all, so it’s hard to pick. Brigita did the music video for Precious. Also, I saw you already have a few solo Romain songs on your list to do, but could you add Love Without Feelings (Live) and Goodbye Good Days? Thank you!
I'm pleased you're enjoying my content. 🥰 I have not heard Precious or Dignity. I avoided pre-SickBoi tunes so I would have unknown content to react to, once I got better after a decade of medical madness. I will be delving into Romain's solo work, as well as Gorran's. I hope I've earned your sub. FYI: VocalCitizen.redbubble.com merch store is open, should you want to window shop... It just opened! 🫠💃🏼
Watching now...holy crap I slept forevers! Not only is this video and song cool, dig that fuckin jacket! Who else but Ren could pull off wearing that epic-ass jacket??? He looks fantastic! I think he was 30 when they did this one. Could be wrong, but I know it wasn't too terribly long ago.
Shadow of Amanda, you soak up that slumber, lady... As flamboyant as I am, would it surprise you to know I used to have a jacket almost exactly like that??? Rocked that sh!t for almost two decades... 💜💜💜💃🏼
I would LOVE to have done a reaction to "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle retake", but I ate up that video like a dog with a drumstick the instant it dropped. REMEMBER: I was bedridden when "Hi Ren" emerged and I tore through so many tracks in my feeding frenzy. I intentionally avoided watching/listening to any pre-SICK BOI tracks so I'd have content to react to, if ever I recovered to the point where I could resume reactions. And here we are... 💜
Anything from Ren with the Big Push was before he became really ill, I noticed that you’ve not reacted to Hi Ren if you do you will know more about his background and illness. Just FYI he was wrongly diagnosed when he actually had Lymes disease which had got to the advanced stage because he hadn’t been diagnosed when he should have been. Ren is a great artist very creative and extremely talented and intelligent, he deserves all of the recognition he can get! I left a comment on your Jinjer Pisces reaction, so here’s my elaboration: as you’ve dabbled with drums what do you think of a drummer who takes over lead vocals? The other thing is they’re a 3 piece band - sisters in fact! They’re a Rock band who have toured with Halestorm, Foo Fighters, 3 days grace, Guns n roses, Muse and a few others. They performed at the MTV VMAs last year, the only band to perform who hadn’t been sponsored for an award, they rocked the roof down - the first time in many years that real rock music had been performed there, even the stage manager commented to them as they went back to the dressing room that he was now a fan. Rumours have it that they’re still trying to get the roof fixed 😂 The band I’ve been talking about is The Warning, they come from Monterrey Mexico, they’re bilingual and most of their songs are in English. The start of it all was 10 years ago when a 9, 12 and 14 year old performed Enter Sandman by Metallica, it’s now had over 25 million views! If you’re interested I would suggest checking out Evolve live from the MTV VMAs, BUT pick the link up from the band’s UA-cam channel, it’s much less likely to get copyright issues. Also their channel has a full and complete log of their musical experiences from a very young age.
I grew up with the Carpenters (yeah, I'm really old) and Karen Carpenter was a drummer who sang. The next generation drummer/lead vocalist was Phil Collins when he was with Genesis. So, that demographic is VERY welcome to my channel. Whoa... you blew my mind with the MetallicA reference. I will check out The Warning. Sounds like another anomaly and I do like those... I appreciate your watching.
@@VocalCitizen Yup, Karen (RIP) was a brilliant drummer particularly in the Jazz style, but I can’t actually remember her singing while playing the Drums, I think maybe Phil might have done but only over a simple drum pattern; Paulina (the Drummer from The Warning) sings while playing fills and complex patterns while also using a laptop for the click track and the occasional recorded addition of an extra instrument. Daniela (the Guitarist/Singer) has a great vocal range, normally considered to be Alto but you could almost classify her as Mezzo. Alejandra (the Bassist) has an amazing style and uses some fairly complex bass runs. They all play the Piano having studied Classical Piano since they were tiny, and they all sing. They stopped playing covers roughly in 2016 and have written all of their own music ever since, pretty remarkable considering they are 19, 22 & 24 now and are on the verge of becoming a world class band. I’m glad this has sparked your interest, they’re going to be the next big thing! Looking forward to seeing you reacting to them, subscribing anyway, I like your style - oh and my motto is and always has been “growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional” says a 72 year old big kid 🤣
"Close to You" vid by the Carpenters, you'll see her at the kit. and WHOA DUDE... my mother had a bumper sticker on her dresser which read: "I REFUSE TO GROW UP". So, your motto blew my mind.
The Big Push happened *after* Ren was sick. He was born in 1990. He got sick when he was around 20 (2010 which also was the year he signed with Sony, and was not able to fulfill because of it) and was in really bad shape for seven years or so. He started to get better after he got his Lyme disease diagnosis. After he got his stem cell treatment, he started to get his energy back. His girlfriend split up, he needed a place to stay and though met Romain and then Goran. The Big Push was born! Someone said in a different comment that they were active between 2017-2022 which seem correct to me. Ren was though around 30 during the Big Push years.
Ren played the drums (because Goreran and Romain couldn't) for the Big Push, before they got a real drummer, so that Ren could be freed up to do his 'thang' full-time. Btw, you asked how old he was here... He was 30, I think, as this was released in late 2020. :)
Instruments that Ren plays, confirmed so far... electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, piano, melodica, drums, cello but he's hinted that there are others. Plus, should we include beatboxing and production? :)
Love this great reaction ❤🎉
