    these are awesome! we have an off grid hunting camp and I had solar installed this past fall. I have one of these hanging in the "battery Closet" to monitor temps so the batteries don't freeze on us when we aren't there. Luckily we don't live too far from the camp if I need to run up and start a fire to warm things up.

    Definitely don't use it for freezers that go -4F or lower. I bought 4 of these. They will accurately read freezer temps lower than this (mine go to -14F) but there was a really shortsighted decision by the govee team that sets a lower limit on alerts at -4F. Since a lot of freezers fluctuate between that range, you will get constant alerts all day. There is a hack to report the wrong temperature by "calibration", but that's only just making it report the wrong temperature. Even with that, it doesn't always work depending how much your freezers go out of range. Other than freezer use, it's a great product.

      Try yolink devices only ones i found that go thru metal and really far. Uses a different frequency than normal wifi.

      This comment is the most important!!! This IS NOT useful if you're relying on an alarm system.

    How did you calibrate it? I’m trying to set up my alarms but it seems the -4 isn’t cold enough. My freezer moves around from -6 up to 1.

    • @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP
      @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP  2 роки тому +1

      So I wasn’t able to calibrate it per se but I was able to change the readings but changing the offset in the app. I was able to change what the temp read by a couple of degrees.

    • @envisionmore
      @envisionmore 2 роки тому +2

      Such a joke that you can't turn off the lower limit. What a dumb software limitation. It's like they tried to handicap an otherwise excellent product. It makes alerts completely useless when your freezer goes between that range and alerts you EVERY time. Had to turn alerts off. Waste of $120 (4 units). Calibration doesn't do it based on the range of my freezers. It's not even truly calibrating it's just offsetting so now all the temperatures are "fake" just to avoid constant alerts. Their software developers should be fired.

      I have sent a couple of emails to the company hoping they will listen to update it but nothing yet. They are still by far the best and most reliable system I have found to monitor my freezers. Which isn’t saying much with the last ones I tested out

    I ordered two of these based on your success but mine loses it's wifi signal in this chest freezer! I tried with my router network, as well as my extender network - my phone has a good signal right above the freezer - but when I also put my phone in the freezer for a minute and removed it, the signal was lost.
    Is there a trick or should I assume some chest freezers block the wifi signal?

  • @ypark2877
    @ypark2877 Рік тому

    One with wide range of temperature and signal goes very far and thru metal. Yolink devices.

    Wish I had seen this one last week. I didnt realize mine were bluetooth which burns your phone battery pretty quick. Might just send it back and get a wireless.
    Thanks.

    As always, enjoyed the video, very informative. Not something we could use (we don't have modern refrigeration or a freezer and Wifi isn't available in our neck of the woods), although I'll pass your info along and with the link to your Amazon store. Keep up the good work! All the best.

    Hello I just bought the unit and somehow i cannot get it to connect via bluetooth. Any suggestions?

  • @alainbreillatt1359

    Does this just connect up to a wifi router or do I need a Govee hub it connects to to then connect to the router?

    • @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP
      @TOOLMANTIMSWORKSHOP  3 роки тому

      Not special needed. You don’t even need wifi if you just want to connect with it locally via Bluetooth on your phone. But if you want to check it anywhere you just connect via Bluetooth first get the govee then connected to the wifi and you are good too go. Not extra equipment needed.

    Hold on. This device connects to the Internet and sends data. These devices give the maker in China direct access to your network and the computers on it. If you do banking or have personal data it can easily collect it and send it. These devices are mini linux computers. Your Internet connection can be used to hack others or break into other systems. When China wants to hack DoD computers they attack through devices like this so YOU get raided and they are not implicated. Unless this device and its software are vetted, using these are a terrible idea. Why do you think they sell them so cheaply?

      Says the guy typing from a phone that was manufactured in China….. China doesn’t care about you nor Tim’s beef in his freezer. It’s not exactly as if Tim was trying to run the cooling system of a nuclear powerplant on this.
