Determination of TFM (Total Fatty Matter) in Soap Sample_A Complete Procedure (ISO 685 & IS 286)

- Total fatty matter (TFM) is the total amount of fatty matter, which can be isolated from a soap (bar soap and liquid soap) by acid treatment followed by the extraction with Hexane or petroleum ether. Soaps containing low TFM content strip water from the skin, causing it to become dry. This video represents a detailed procedure for the determination of total fatty matter in a soap sample.

Is it used to sediment the soluble fats still present in the soln?

Hii thank you for the great video. It has really helped me with IB coursework material. But i have a question, can volume or concentration of Hexane make a difference TFM produced?
Basiccally what im asking is what can affect the amount of TFM produced?
Hexane is used to extract the TFM but the amount of hexane can vary slightly and that will not cause the difference in TFM result

Why is sulfuric acid used? And if the volume of sulfuric acid is changed, will the TFM value change?
Sulfuric acid is used to separate the fat layer. Concentration of sulfuric acid should not be charged
Is there an option for n hexane
Can we use any other solvent in place of n hexane
Petroleum ether
How can I calculate the uncertainty of the total fatty matter in soap?
Using type A or type B ?and what is the parameters affect on the measurement ?

To lengthy procedure I have short and easy Beeswax method.
