I chuckled everytime Eric misspelled Chat GPT. 😂 Great video. Love the highlight of the trail at the old airport Great place to see Mongoose and feral cats.
Thanks for touching on the taking lava rocks, etc home. We had black sand in our beach shoes when we visited. We shook it out. Such a beautiful place. It humbled us both out right down to earth!
The first beach is behind the Keauhou Heritage Site. We get to access it everyday when we stay at the Surf and Racquet Club! We see turtles all the time and I wish we were there now!!!
That first beach is the beach access point just south to Keauhou Beach Hotel (site). The hotel removed and land was restored by Bishop Estate (Kam schools)… like they rebuilt the heiau rock structure.
There is a video series Uhau Humu Pohaku that is all about lava rock walls and construction can recommend watching. The stories about bad luck and misfortune make more sense after watching it.
Goats and donkeys were not a big thing in Kona before. Wild donkeys suddenly became overpopulated . At one time, you would see almost as much donkeys then as you see goats now. The donkeys were usually at a distance and rarely came close to the roads. They ended up rounding them up. Not sure what they did with them once collected. Years later, the goats started appearing and now a bit overpopulated.
I have to admit, the KOA airport is awful. In theory it’s a nice idea to have open air, but in real life the last thing you want to do when it gets up to 90° is get soaking wet sweaty before you hop on a plane. We usually stand in the gift shop because it’s the only place with air conditioning that I know of, and we always feel awkward.
I've always thought they should capture the goats, take them to the Hilo zoo, and let the tigers hunt them inside their enclosure. It would be a great source of meat and an enrichment activity.
Hey Eric, love the new hat!
👍🏻
