Great, Paul! Here Amira performs at the Afrikaans Is Groot on July 22, 2023, together with the Mzansi Youth Choir. This choir reached the grand final of America's Got Talent 2023. Amira Willighagen won Holland's Got Talent 2013. What an angel! Amira has been the queen of the Sun Arena since these annual concerts began when she was 12 years old. It's always a privilege to watch a performance by Amira, a living bel canto legend.
When you put two Giants on the same stage, you're bound to get magic! 😩🔥♥️ I love how they sang this song. I've heard it before, but their version was so soulful. They have sung from the heart and we need another song from this duo. Amira and the choir soloist, please bless us with your voices once more!
This is proof: when you are an exceptionally gifted vocalist you do not need many words and/or a huge orchestra. Just let the voices shine, it is so so beautiful. Amira Willighagen, Angelina Jordan and Lucy Thomas (and a few more) have that gift....
Another fantastic version of Amen from Amira with the fabulous Mzanzi choir... in contrast with the other fabulous and very different version with the Ndlovu choir... Both magic.
My favourite version was put out by Gsacni this morning. He names the choir as Mzansi. Thank you, Paul. I think Amira's Sound of Music Medley was from the Sun Arena (8,000 seating?). I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
The Sun Arena is a very large auditorium (seating about 9500) in Pretoria (Capital of South Africa). It was used by Coleske Artists from 2018, previously they had used the Moreleta auditorium, which had a much better acoustic design, but only (!) seated 7500.
It's a great live performance. With Amira how could it not be? I prefer the recorded version with the Ndlovu. I think it has more subtlety and I like the zulu phrasing, even if I don't understand it. Each to their own. Sun arena is a theatre, but they probably do other stuff there, Lexus are the sponsors for the shows, and they add the date because these shows are an annual event, barring pandemics, and other interruptions. Anyway nice to see you post and react to this one - you were quick off the mark, it only became available yesterday.
FB reaction post from Bill Coleman on A.W. - Friends group (5-18-24) “Blessed be the Lord God Almighty Who was and is and is to come.” This is what the Zulu Ndlovu choir is singing. i too like the Ndlovu choir recorded version, but just a personal feeling.
