NHL teams can exceed the salary cap by up to 10% in the off-season. That being said, the Jani Hakanpaa contract situation is not holding the leafs up as there is still plenty of room to sign other players if they really want to🤷🏻♂️
If it was me I would just pass on him, clearly he's not in NHL condition. So far this off season, like most for the Leafs is very underwhelming! More drama than improvement!
@@shanebrohm7786 I suppose if you look at this way, then sure, why not, but I still think maybe its time to move on and get someone else in that role, as we already have a great Dman on LTIR in Muzzin who's been on that list forever it seems I just don't see wasting another spot on the list for a player who has yet to even make an appearance in the blue and white and has yet to even be officially announced as a member of the Leafs. I do see where you are going though and it is an option as well, just not one I would personally like to see them do.

@@Alex-g4h1q Muzzin and Murray had nothing to do with Tree as he wasn’t the GM that signed them and the plethora of those 3rd pairing D that you speak of held Boston in check for pretty much the whole series. The high priced forwards are the ones who once again couldn’t get it done. How many playoff games have they scored 2 goals or less in recent years? 🤷🏻♂️
First problem was re signing Lily. You’re gonna have him play 2nd pairing with OEL and have Benoit and McCabe play 3rd pairing? Benny and McCabe were arguably our best d men last season and they’re getting a demotion? That’s definitely gonna make McCabe want to re sign next season. Trade Timmins throw in a 6th rounder to get rid of him. Sign lindstrom. I’ve watched him play before he’s a great option for a 3rd pairing guy with beniot. Put hakanpaa on LTIR. And finally…. Make a god damn trade to get us another 3C so Domi can play second line with Nylander and JT. It’s like Tre is afraid and would rather waste away our cores prime
