First, the pilots didn’t know exactly where the carriers were until Best, the squadron commander of the SBDs and Wade McClusky spotted the Japanese destroyer Arashi (Kagero class) speeding north which eventually led to the first strike where Enterprise bombers including Best crippled the Akagi and Kaga while Yorktowns bombers decimated the Soryu before sending a final wave after the Hiryu. The carriers didn’t blow up instantaneously but after I believe a few hours since the damage control was attempted and the Hiryu was scuttled after failure to control the fire.
@noelivester7340 They were mid ammo switch. The admiral had previously ordered they arm the planes with torpedo's but then second guessed himself and said switch ammo. This process takes hours and as a result the carrier was a sitting duck when the American fleet found them. The explosion was even more intense because so much ordinance was on the deck when the dive bombers hit them.
I love the fact that they are flying at high altitude with the cockpit open but when they go for a bombing run they close the cockpit. Its the complete opposite because they wanted an option to bail out if they misjudged the dive and pulled out to late.
It must be tricky to make a historical shooters these days, when people know SO much about the historical context. Given that this is CoD and the player is basically hand-held, it would be relatively easy to create a historically accurate level where the player is guided through the real events. Like... you're flying a Wild Cat and you have to use the speed advantage to shoot down a Zero. And if you try to dog fight you'll soon be outmatched.
Did you know that they sold this game as a "Totally realistic and historically accurate game?" That's why so many people throw shit at it, in addition to being a terrible campaign with terrible dialogue.

Despite the animation and graphics being excellent, this fight is one of the most historically ridiculous things I have ever watched. The Dautless was too slow to dogfight with A6Ms especially when it comes to shoot down that many planes in one sortie! It could happen that he fired with his machine guns forward, to straffer rather but it was rather the gunner in the rear who shot down other planes. The role of this aircraft was dive bombing, and it was designed for this (notably with the presence of holey dive flaps on the wings), and dive bombing involves strong wings. And the idea of engaging in a dogfight within range of the ships' guns is pure madness! I can assure you that for any pilot, once his bombs are dropped, his first idea is to immediately deviate from the DCA zone. (yes yes even with "American" genes)...😜
Ah, remember the time when grandpa single handily destroyed 2 Aircraft Carriers and shot down 50 Zeros, with 3 Zeros flying straight into his face but it went through, while getting shot a million times on the face with Anti-aircraft bullet rounds and managing to save 20 of his own pilots & maintaining a cheeky sense of humour --- all in just 1 sortie? @MonarchEXE How do targets that are set to strict rotating paths without deviation more threatening? The Fighters in that sequence in BF3 follow a repeating path, they are meant to fly directly into your field of view to be destroyed by either the fixed gun or guided missiles. Its a rail shooting sequence. No strategy required. They dont have AI beyond firing the occasional missile you have to flare at. If you choose to not destroy them and just keep flaring with the infinite supply of countermeasures they will endlessly repeat tailing and being directly in front of the plane until you decide to destroy them. It is basically a quick time event. You can receive damage in this Vanguard sequence because the planes can freely engage you at any angle, as can you. Its not a flight simulator by any means, but it is a gameplay section despite its strict linear set of events.
@MonarchEXE If you are being randomly taken out by anti air fire, or Zero fighters that's a fairly accurate portrayal of how perilous it is for pilots during WW2 lol. It also means you can fail. Admitting that the BF3 sequence is effective only once is not an argument for it's quality. You are basically saying it has almost zero replay value. Flashbacks in a story are not bad things lol, in Vanguard the flashback is meant to develop a character's personality like almost all the other missions in the game. It's a Ensemble cast. In BF3 it is a random mission meant to showcase frostbite's engine technology at the time. It's impressive to look at sure, but it is only impressive once and loses all novelty... If you like the spectacle on it's own that's fine, in Vanguard it is also very much Spectacle. But at least it is still just a bit more interactive and can be replayed without losing it's small gameplay appeal.
Well, I wouldn’t say Dull but Dog shit. They cant even get the combat sequences right. Even Model of Japanese Carriers are very wrong it’s not hard to find their accurate models. And what is 8 Nagato Class Battleships doing here? Nagato Class Battleships only have 2 Nagato and Mutsu. Japanese AA is too accurate and why the Main Character have to open the cockpit when Diving Bombing into the whore of AAs somehow didn’t recived any shrapnel from the AAs at all. Walked through a yank carrier RIMPAC ''16.
No Fulse bulkheads, no bullshit. Those boys (and girls...) are all business. Get some.
The zero's just pop after a couple of hits, but the dauntless can tank 50 hits easily. I know the mission has to be player friendly but this is just ridiculous.
Zeros didn't have armor.
Zeros didn't have armor or self sealing fuel tanks. Their only advantage early in the war was speed. If you could line them up in a sight, a short burst would either blow them up or send them to the waves.
If only World of Warships or WarThunder were this cool....
No one can make a good navy game (At least not after NavyFeild 1)
Silent Hunter III
Why does he open/close his window?
For dramatic purpose.
and the veterans are turning in their graves
Depictions of the war have been inaccurate since the war was still being fought. It’s dramatic license, not a documentary
this in vr would be dope
flight with an open cockpit
Go get 'em boys, make them pay for Pearl Harbor.
Commodore 64 has come a long way.
This video is good.
RIpped straight out of bf3's hornet mission
2:29 I know its COD and its unrealistic as hell, but goddamn, they really left a running dauntless without anybody in it for you to jump into. I know its to skip over the checklists and proper starting procedure but its still funny asf. The moment u jump into the plane, its setup like a tricycle gear layout with the whole plane level not angled up like the taildragger that it is.
And what happened to the heavy cruisers main gun turrets? Forgot them in Pearl?
T28 D in video ??
I liked playing this mission
1:30 wouldn't be call of duty without an awkward wait for a button prompt to appear.
Why did the obvious New Orleans class heavy cruisers not have ANY of their 8 inch guns?
Nice game
03:39 Shouldn't the plane's right wing hit to people while taking off ? :)
Battlefied 3 pilot misson on crack:
These are SO dumb when there is RIDICULOUS banter...the guy telling the pilot how to pre-flight his plane...LOL oh okay, I'm a pilot but I don't know about checking my controls or running up the engine...thank you so much rear gunner...lol
Pretty slick though.
Ever noticed that he never closed the cockpit?
Are all the Zeros and SBDs bots?
Why’d they take guns off USS Pensacola?
Wait, wait, wait. Ah yes, close the cockpit during a dive-bomb.
🎮👍
Ah yes, a lever that refills the ammo in a fucking plane.
Yeah that gets me too but for a video game that's understandable although they could keep it to a limit on reloads after say 3 reloads on each gun it's has to return to the carrier for more ammo.
0:35 is that chris pratt
この頃の米軍の艦爆がゼロ戦の後ろをとり続けて撃墜に至るってどんな奇跡だよw
Yeah, there's nothing accurate about this. A Dauntless could never keep up with a Zero like it's shown here.
Bro when it pans left off the elevator why those guys running so close to the plane?😂
SBD’s shooting down Zero’s. That is awkward
Cool, but it is no hellcats over the Pacific.
This is a call of duty mission?
Is there more plane gameplay in that Vanguard? Or shooter mostly? )
That is the only flying level on vanguard, it’s not the best of controls either.
The window was open the whole time 💀
так стоп, он в конце знаменитый авианосец (какой=)) ), японцев потопил?
Here is the thing
USS Enterprise CV-6
