It’s not even that Seth thinks his fans are too stupid to understand the jokes; it’s that he _knows_ the new fans are.

I love family guy and South Park but as a musician and composer I love the way music is used in Family Guy. South park’s music in terms of incidental stuff accompanying scenes is very limited but that’s due to the structure of the show more than anything. But Matt and Trey are genius writers, especially their musical stuff. Bigger, Longer and Uncut, Team America, and The Book of Mormon are amazing.
@@zer0_iz_d34dThe Simpsons creators actually enjoy Family Guy and are good friends with Seth and some others on the cast. King of the hill fell flat on it’s face quickly.
They’re just constantly taking the easy routes instead of actually trying to improve their writing. They literally had an episode where Meg came out about the abuse and got the entire family to see how badly they’ve treated her. It would’ve been the perfect way to let the “everyone hates Meg” bit go, because my god, it’s old. But no, they instead had her (or more so have Brian have her) convince them that they actually did nothing wrong and the bit continued. It was honestly a really toxic ending to that episode, even for Family Guy.
She has pulled some pretty shady shit over the years, though. It’s like the writers want you to hate her, so they write her accordingly. First they make her a stalker, then they have her admit to vandalizing Anne Frank’s house. This is part of the problem with going on forever. Eventually, you are keeping people in abusive relationships just so the show can continue to exist. A lot of it is a reaction to so many shows where men and boys are always shown as the instigators of problems. But seeing her as Oscar the Grouch was one of the most hilariously grotesque things ever.
Family guy did do a lot of stuff very closely related to the Simpsons. The plots being structured very similarly but they added a lot of their own style of humor. South Park structures their plots based off current events, and only gives themselves a week to write episodes which is why they’ve been able to stay fresh for so many years whereas family guy and the simpsons become stale because you can only use the same plot structures so many times before it all looks the same. South Park is also a show about 4 8 year old boys where’s family guy, the Simpsons, and every other family comedy and sitcom known to man bases around a family
Now, all of these shows are just waiting for somebody to come around and put them out of their misery. Even if they had been canceled years ago, they would just get rebooted like everything else that was on when they were new.
I honestly prefer Seth MacFarlane’s live action works. Those include the Ted movies and yes, A Million Ways to Die in The West. I actually liked that one. I still need to check out The Orville, I heard that’s got a real mature tone in later seasons, which is something I really appreciate for a show created by him.

I think Family guy in the 90s and 00s was actually very clever, witty, and intelligent. It was at times the “thinking man’s” comedy as it relied less on gags and more on sharp satire. But those days are long gone
@@demonwhaloSouth Park has some great writers, writing really clever satire about the world we live in, and some of the jokes can take the entire episode to land, some are immediate but they're pertaining to the story and drive it forward. Family Guy uses the formula of "the time 'random noun', did a 'random verb,' with/in 'random noun'" as filler for a 7 minute story stretched as far as they can to make 25 minute run time. That's why there are long fillers like chicken fights, or other equally boring and repetitive stuff.
Every film/show and book basically every form of media possible imaginable is gonna be loved by someone somewhere and ofc hated by someone somewhere....it probably just needs to be tipped hopefully in the favor of the "lovers"
They spent it on some taco joint they used to hang out at while chasing women instead of spending more time practicing drawing. Eventually, their shitty and toxic relationship drama made it into the show because even nonviewers had to hear about it when it spilled over into discussions of other cartoons.
Season 1 - 8 were the only good seasons for me. Nowadays I think the show is absolutely unwatchable unless you remove everything but the jokes, because that and the score is clearly where all the budget goes.
Yeah exactly. I loved the earlier seasons. But after like season 6. Something was just lost. The show wasn't nowhere near as funny and had a different feel.
Actually when that South Park episode aired, I never saw a Family Guy epsiode then months later, I started watching Family Guy and even though the South Park guys were right about Family Guy, I think Family Guy is a very funny animated show and I love both Family Guy and South Park equally.
Don’t forget that king of the hill also sent a response letter congratulating South Park and The Simpsons later on But honestly if I had a cartoon series and I had to choose i would turn to family guy’s side and later respond to south park’s episode and also roast the shit out of them
Yet nobody sent them a congratulation letter when they outlived *Futurama* after Fox tried to kill them both the same way NBC tried to kill *Silver Spoons* and *Punky Brewster.*
I think Family Guy has put themselves in a position where they can poke fun at other shows and then those other shows just poke back. I really don’t think any tv show hates each other
Actually South Park people are jealous of Family Guy Because FG and Simpson make fun of each other and FG also calls itself a rundown version of Simpsons as a good sport
They had the opportunity to avoid making all the same mistakes as *The Shitsons* did but made them anyway. Likewise, when *SpongeBob* became popular, I hoped and prayed Nickelodeon didn’t run it into the ground like they were doing to *Rugrats* by that point, but that happened just the same.

Older FG episodes used to just cutaway to the reference; these modern episodes have to spoonfeed the entire joke to modern audiences just for them to have a chance at understanding it, no matter how simple a joke it is.
It’s not even that Seth thinks his fans are too stupid to understand the jokes; it’s that he _knows_ the new fans are.
I agree
I think this is the most accurate description; they have to explain every part of the joke, otherwise it isn't "funny" enough.
In the immortal words of the Joker:
"If you have to explain the joke, then _there IS no joke!"_
Seth hasn’t been involved in the writing of Family Guy for, at this point, the majority of the show’s tenure.
Blame Wellesley Wild for this. It was once he got on board that the quality of the writing declined.
“Family guy” doesn’t even show a loving family anymore.

Old Family Guy hits different than the newest episodes
Season 1-3 were arguably pretty bad and season 13-20 were arguably even worse, season 4-6 were amazing, and 7-12 were alright
1-3 is pretty hit or miss, but still way more soulful and thought put in that the newer episodes
Both are bad
That’s because the jokes land and the pop-culture references are to things that stand the first test of time, name recognition after the fact, rather than present-day flavors of the month.

Then you've obviously never been a social lightning rod, so, be glad cause its a very real thing that people relate to.
@@maybelater2010 I know it’s a real thing, but this whole “everyone hates Meg” bit has been going on for way too long. It’s gotten stale and boring.
That’s exactly what happened to The Simpsons and later American Dad when they went to TBS.
I'm pretty sure comedians interact with each other by insulting each other
IMAO, Family Guy was actually still a good show when that _South Park_ episode aired.
Now, all of these shows are just waiting for somebody to come around and put them out of their misery. Even if they had been canceled years ago, they would just get rebooted like everything else that was on when they were new.
I just think it's funny how family guy just embraces it sometimes
I honestly prefer Seth MacFarlane’s live action works. Those include the Ted movies and yes, A Million Ways to Die in The West. I actually liked that one. I still need to check out The Orville, I heard that’s got a real mature tone in later seasons, which is something I really appreciate for a show created by him.

Family Guy is the exact opposite of dry humour

Exactly, making something random and absurd enough is hard okay!

South park’s just mad they ran out of budget when it came to graphics
They spent it on some taco joint they used to hang out at while chasing women instead of spending more time practicing drawing. Eventually, their shitty and toxic relationship drama made it into the show because even nonviewers had to hear about it when it spilled over into discussions of other cartoons.
Season 1 - 8 were the only good seasons for me. Nowadays I think the show is absolutely unwatchable unless you remove everything but the jokes, because that and the score is clearly where all the budget goes.
