  • As requested by you guys in several comments: here is how I installed my pan servo!
Nothing to special and it surely deserves to be called "a poor mans pan setup" BUT ... it works :)
You can get the servo here: www.ftcrc.com/...
    Hope this helps you along.

    Nice tip!
Just collected the components for my pan servo. I'll use the same bracket, it came with my Runcam Swift cams, from a few years ago.
Recently Mr.D made a very nice YT: "A great OpenTX Pan & Tilt setup". He used a curve to center his servo. Servo speed setting in INAV is great. It is also possible to get more rotation by changing the Min and Max in the servo-mixer tab in INAV, if the servo is able to rotate that far.

Darren is a good resource for so many things. Will have to take a look at the curve. Thanks for the notice.
The servo will do 280° btw

I am just about finished with my first FPV fixed wing, an Atomic Dolphin. It has a DJI 03 air unit with the camera in a fixed position. Once I get enough flight experience with it I will add this pan system. Good job on the video. You give a very detailed explanation of the steps involved.

Glad to hear, William. Hope it will work for you. This setup has flown about 600+km so far.

Thanks. It's interesting to see how others do it.
I noticed that you're not using the full resolution yaw channel, so you could assign that to the slider on your radio if you need more precision.
What I do is use a servo horn and tie wrap the camera mount onto that. The advantage of that is that the tie wraps will break in a crash instead of the servo case. But in your case the mounting of the servo is fairly soft, so that will absorb some of the shock as well.
Also, another tip for those using INAV: you can extend and fine tune the servo range in INAV and set the servo center too. Many standard servo's are able to pan much further before they hit hard limits.
And for those using a head tracker, make sure you can see the front of the plane otherwise it becomes very difficult to fly: to do that you'll need to mount the pan servo further back (see for example: Thirty M FPV Hee Wing T-1 Ranger - Maiden)

Nice one. Having a pan view greatly improves the flying experience. :)
With T1, since it doesn't have rudder, that (stick) could be an alternative option to control the pan angle. Mixing with a switch, to return to centre default, could be useful as well.

Tried it but then came back to the slider as it stays in that position but you’re right with the rudder ;)

I wish you would show where you put the vista VTX and how you are keeping it cool

Easy thing! Look at the moment where I show the cut out for the servo. Right beneath it is the vtx. The intakes in the nose kept my vtx cool
