    I was nowhere near as careful as you in establishing my image, and it actually still worked! What a marvellous technique. Once I get a stronger grip on the basics I can see a whole new world of abstract/painterly images opening up. Thanks for such a detailed and enjoyable video.

    I've been wanting to learn this technique since I first started seeing it earlier this year. Crazy how 'easy' it is but love how much you can do with it.

    Great fun. I just tried it on some bland beach photos I took a while back in Wales. You need the 'right' image though :-)

    this isn't a photo, it's digital art. and that's great. but don't call it a photo. the actual photo version done in camera would only blur things that are moving. the beach should remain sharp as should the person. The other shot you showed with the dog would look better if done this way. Also, with the amount of digital art being done on these images, why not just scale down the people and dog in that second photo to create the same feeling? Why not just erase the people and keep the dog? where do you draw the arbitrary line?

    Thank you so much for this. As a Ps user, completely for photos, I can't follow your button selection for the 'shadow' creation onwards - could you possibly re do the process with this in mind ?
    Just for us idiots ! I don't have any experience of transferring items between images but have been using Ps for Photo processing for 15+ years
    Any help appreciated !! It's all a bit too fast from about 5:19 onwards & I cant see your mouse / key strokes !!
    I use ICM a lot - but this allows me to fix areas within an image & I love it !!
    Thank you

    Given that the shadow is being reflected by whatever on the ground, wouldn't it (the shadow) also blurred?

    I love your tutorial! Being a complete numbat with photoshop (despite having it for many years), I am stuck where you say 'copy' 'paste'. I know Cntrl C, Cntrl V, but when I use them here it places a copy of the person in another area of the image. It does not give me a choice. Where am I going wrong please?

    On some of Thomas Fotomas's photos he has retained details in a wave, is that done by using the pen/magnetic tool to subtract it from the selection similar to how you do it for people?

  • @olodumareh

    One thing wrong there: from that angle, the reflection of the person should actually be SHORTER, not longer than the person itself. The original only gives the ilusion of a bigger reflection because the person´s image is being reflected on several layers of water (the little waves) but if you are standing in a single layer of water (such as a calm pond, or even if a mirror was spread on the ground) that reflection has to be shorter than the image of the person itself, when viewed from that angle... Try it out and fix that (just for fun), you´ll get a much more realistic result in the end 👍

    Living on the coast, I'll quite often use intentional movement to create an image, especially when there's not too much colour in the sky at sunset. However, I have used this technique recently with some amazing results.

    • @AndrewLanxonPhotography
      @AndrewLanxonPhotography  Рік тому +1

      I do love a bit of ICM on the coast. Always a balance between getting a total blur and having enough left that you can still get an understanding of what you're looking at. I like doing it this way sometimes in post as I have more control.

    What about doing this in lightroom using minus 100 texture brush for instance ? And you could paint aroung the figure, and i also believes you can isolate subjects there too

    • @AndrewLanxonPhotography
      @AndrewLanxonPhotography  Рік тому

      Removing texture in this way would probably help give a 'smoother' look to parts of the image but it wouldn't create the motion in the blur in the same way, which is a big part of the success of this technique.

    It seems interesting but I am stuck at the second step with the patch tool. My background is selected. I do a rough sketch around the figure but it actually duplicates de figure instead of making it disappear. I have checked I have exactly the same things as you checked for the patch tool. This is frustrating 😂 PS : Erratum, I found the problem. Destination was selected ;)

    Thanks so much for this amazing tutorial Andrew!! I have a question you might clarify for me: Regarding the edits Tomas Fotomas does, for instance, Im just watching some pics he uploaded to IG today (March 5th 2023), how does he tackle the waves in a manner they stay as they were and they are not affected by the path blurr? Meaning, in the specific pic i mention, the wave tube still keeps its roundness and the barrel braking on the water stays the same to (the water splash seems to not be affected by the blurr). Wonder if Im explaining myself clearly enough..Thanks

  • @guillaumeledique3401
    @guillaumeledique3401 Рік тому

    Just wondering why you didn't apply a blend if on the shadow? Wouldn't that create an effect closer to the original shadow where the difference in light on the shore will break it up?
    Love the technique though!

  • @bobwiegers
    @bobwiegers Рік тому

    I think the blur effect is great, so thanks for the heads-up on that. I'm unconvinced by the figure in the foreground however...too much uncanny valley for me.

  • @EdBacon

    Try moving the shadow layer just above the Background layer and use layer blending to add some texture to the shadow.
