Professor Scottie B at it again! As someone who was out of the hobby for 30 years and jumped back in for the 2021 madness, you have been an absolute Master Class! A calm, clear, friendly voice thats not just fueling the hype train. It about the love of the hobby and just doing something we all enjoy. Thank You Scottie B!
@Scottie B Cards I just bought a metric sh*t ton of Panini (Prizm, Mosaic, Contenders, etc). Topps flagship just seems like it's super hard to get hits. You didn't even list them in your top brands so now I'm concerned, am I just lighting my money on fire with Panini productions? Bowman is my favorite but I couldn't pass up these deals. Thanks!
im not as knowledgable as Scott but because of the fanatics thing on the horizon im buying only topps products because i think all topps products are going to be in demand after the big fanatics takeover, im buying as much as possible right now i think even topps base rookies gonna be highly desirable i could be wrong
Panini Baseball doesn't cost much/ hold value because it lacks the MLB licenses. If collecting Panini, stick to case hits inserts like Downtown, Lava Flow, and Colorblast. Topps cost more because of the licensing, but they also hold more value. If Topps hits are expensive, be picky about what you want to chase and make a budget for one or two cards you really like because quality beats quantity when it comes to investing.
Was thinking about purchasing unopened pre-2020 Topps Heritage product instead of 2020 and 2021 flagship due to the increase of production runs the last two years. Really starting to be scared off of super-recent Topps releases due to the cardboard inflation going on. Echoed in your base-card video. Cheers!
I bought Ohtani when PSA 10 were $56. I only bought it as a "we'll see what happens" low risk. Now I wish I bought 100+ of them! Same with Vlad Jr. Never bought his PSA's when I should have. Many raw flagship Vlad's but I only bought his prospect bowman chrome card
At this point, you could easily sell a rock with your signature on it.. you might not sell it for a whole ton of money, but I'm sure there's somebody that watches you that would absolutely Buy your rock
2nd message with a question: Why would a TATIS RC PSA 10 with the GOLD 150 year Stamp, be almost the worst card to sell? No examples on ebay for SOLD and if there were, they've been a fraction of the value than any other TATIS RC. You'd think the Gold 150 stamp would ADD value, no??
I completely agree! Bowman chrome of these players are much more scarce and are king when it comes to buying/collecting/investing in a player. Specifically 1st bowman chrome autos.
I wanna counter this tho... what if the cards you have are so rare nobody has the chance to buy it ... meaning it has not made itself to the public eye and they never had the chance to buy or sell creating a demand based on supplied buying opportunity... so what is the solution well i have that answer
So here is my question, if certain cards demand more even if not as rare, the big fish will gather them up. I am on no way in the market for a 6000 card especially from 2018. BUT.... won't a secondary market emerge for the smaller buyers of the hobby at some point? Shouldn't they appreciate at the same "rate" IE. If the big card goes up 2 percent the smaller will as well +/- of course?
I actually pulled a fathers day Tatis from 19 series 2. I'm holding it, but one has sold for around 3k raw. It makes literally no sense for golds to sell for more in same condition than rarer parallels. Even less than zero sense in the case of the Tatis fathers day. Its essentially color match, looks better than the gold, is far rarer. But you're right that rarity doesn't always make a card more valuable. I've got a Ke'Bryan Hayes icy green /499. Its 4 times rarer than a gold and sells for roughly half the price. Makes no sense.
you think serial numbered refractors are better buys then none seriel numbered for example sometimes xfractors are serial numbered but usually not you think having the serial numbers are important ? pink and sepia usually dont eighther should i avoid them n lean more towards blue purple green or gold cause the numbers are on the card?
Love the content scottie!! This would of helped me back when i started doin breaks. I learned the well not hard way but I wish i would of made different moves and went for different brands would of saved me a bunch of money..This is a must watch for people getting into the hobby and for me thats gonna gtet more into baseball cards. ty for the info
Scottie B. Back to back big win videos. Thanks for the education. I would love to see your rookie ranking algorithm applied to brands. Actually I’d love to see the ranking across years, like 2021, 2016, 2006, 2000, 1990, 1980. Nothing like a longitudinal study!
Scottie, you're pretty good at this kinda thing, so maybe if this is a good idea, you could figure out a way to do it. I had the idea of coming up with a stat/score that could be applied to a card that would help collectors determine what cards they should buy. It would factor in importance of the player, scarcity of the card as well as the demand for that particular card or set. Maybe could even factor in set condition sensitivity and how many other rookie cards a guy has? Kinda how ronald acuna has seemingly dozens of different rookie cards and trout only has a few. Idk, could be a crazy idea. What do you think?
I enjoy your analysis of the top cards investors are interested in even though I consider myself a collector as I am a buyer never a seller. When I think of a "rare" card it is those I've been searching years for and have never seen for sale anywhere and many are less than 10 years old.
My favorite "rare" pickup was my 72 topps Billy Martin "middle finger" card. Its not really a rare card, just one that I never saw in person until a couple years ago. And in the case of cards I have wanted for a while, I prefer an in person experience to just searching eBay. Not a valuable card by any stretch, but to me, it was something I wanted since I first saw it in an article about famous baseball cards when I was around 11.
I recently picked up a 2008 Allen & Ginter Clayton Kershaw rookie Bazooka back mini #’d to /25. I know they’re pretty rare and I’ve searched everywhere and cannot find any comps. Frustrating when you’re trying to attach value.
Love the videos, Scottie! Curious to point out (your thoughts would be appreciated) The right side are not sold prices though. Asking price. Someone could ask for $10,000 if they choose. Doesn't mean value.
Scotty. You're chalnnel is so great, I watch every video you post. At the end of the day its all about supply and demand. If someone doesnt want a Padprushchuia rose gold asia black 1/1 they wont buy it. LOL
We are in a junk parallel era and they are trying to disguise junk wax and higher print runs by spreading them out over derivative brands and watering down the parallels
This is so true and other content creators have been preaching buy parallels, autos only. But I can totally see the junk parallel area happening right before our eyes
I say flagship, Topps chrome , Bowman chrome, stadium club , gold lable , heritage, bowman paper. Imo..... Also believe Soto is the new face of baseball.
you will experience extreme super collectible market in physical crypto coins and cards market items between 2011 and 2020 guaranteed upside coming. lots o these items come with loaded bitcoin or other crypto currencies.
Grading has destroyed the hobby part of sports collectibles .. people are really collecting just the grade . Look at the price diffrence between a 9 and 10 especially in modern . The other huge problem are the serial numbered , autos and patch cards . New people to the hobby have been conditioned to only care about chase cards . They would rather have a serial numbered scrub prospect then say a Harper base rookie or hall of famer .

Can you show the cards large and not so tiny? I don't know about other viewers but I can see the details of the cards. Thank you so much.
That's a t-shirt waiting to happen. one of one t-shirt ON the t-shirt. lol

Scottie, ur knowledge is impeccable. I luv Bowmans Best. Such an undervalued product. The atomic and refractor parallels are beautiful.
Yeah I love the BB especially the atomics..
That mustache is a PSA 10
When it comes to modern sports cards in general, it better have a combo of these factors, RC, numbered, auto, patch.
I think this is why Bowman Chrome autos are going to be "the card". Topps keeps busting out so many darn versions of the same card!
I completely agree! Bowman chrome of these players are much more scarce and are king when it comes to buying/collecting/investing in a player. Specifically 1st bowman chrome autos.

I rather have your cards of those players long term then the gold version of those cards.
It's all about the demand. Nice breakdown, thanks!

Bid for the Scottie B rock auto 1/1 scottiefractor NFT is now $5
Aren't Sapphire going to sell for more than Flagship or anything else???

I remember back in the 80’s when collecting cards was so simple and the market wasn’t flooded with 100’s of sets each year…
Scottie B. Back to back big win videos. Thanks for the education. I would love to see your rookie ranking algorithm applied to brands. Actually I’d love to see the ranking across years, like 2021, 2016, 2006, 2000, 1990, 1980. Nothing like a longitudinal study!
Camo sucks except it’s considered a padres color match because it’s associated with them. Other team camo go for less

Scott, Just got a Jo Adell RC numbered out of 790 from the complete set for $20. What's your take on that card

Headed to Utah (SLC) in February, can you recommend any card shops to visit while there? Thanks
Platinum Sports in Provo or Mr E’s.
Damn, I'm looking for a gold tatis 2019 bowman chrome...it's his best rc imo aesthetically speaking . Dont know how I missed that one.
Great video as always

2019 isn't rare, it's just demand is so high.
My #1 rule for buying a card.......it's gotta look cool AF!😂😂
2016-17 Donruss Optic HOLO LeBron James sells for more than the numbered version...
I say flagship, Topps chrome , Bowman chrome, stadium club , gold lable , heritage, bowman paper. Imo.....
Also believe Soto is the new face of baseball.
Clickbait,,, where is that gorgeous girl on the card with that guy?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Where can I get that 1/1 rock. Lol
If we knew why Torres has been struggling it would be easy to determine if we should be but at this point he may not even have a spot on the Yankees.
So you're telling me I can get a signed Scottie B rock for FREE!?
6k obo for my signed rock... hmu
