Peace, love, and metal \m/
This complete rewrite was a passion project of mine, and I knew there was only ONE voice actor that could pull this off. Thank you so much Caleb for picking it up for me! I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the process of writing, orchestrating, and mixing the song in the replies.
Thank you, Caleb and his fans, and keep creating (:
Amazing writing, Stellar! Thanks for giving this song the justice it deserved!
O love how each part has such a similar vibe to the villain’s original songs!! Also, in some parts you can immediately tell which lyrics from “this is the thanks I get” were rephrased, just goes to show that a little tweaking makes a big difference!
Bro Disney needs to hire you
The lyrics gave me shivers down my spine. Well done!
people are saying that they want full versions of each, which i fully support and that sounds like a great idea, but could you remake the original version from wish with magnifico, like a genuine rewrite and rework
My headcanon is that the other villains decided to sit Magnifico down so they could show him how it’s done.
Magnifico: " why tf am I here for? That girl wanted me to grant ALL the wishes, and now I'm the fucking villain? SHE should be the villain, actually nevermind she'll be terrible at it!"
This comment rhythm better than Wish ever wish to be
@@valhatan3907 right XD
@@lilartist9892the whole movie could be rewritten where magnifico is the protagonist and after he grants one wish the people keep asking for more and it could be about greed or sth
That would be so fun lol
I love that the recent trend for Disney fans is to look on Wish and be like, "when you need a job done right...."
“You have to do it yourself.”
Real.
"Bipity bopity we're doing this properly"
I WISHed disney tried at least with this one song.
In the words of the Mad Titan, Thanos
"Fine, I'll do it myself..."
The scary thing about Frollo is he literally says in the movie, “and this is how you thank me for taking you in and raising you as my son?”
Sykes: "I lent you money, and I don't see it. Do you know what happens when I don't see my money, Fagin? People get hurt. People like you get hurt."
I know what what you’re meaning but “Son” is a stretch, more like a servant and burden 😭 poor Quasi
@@KingOfGaymes Sykes and Fagin be like:
@@KingOfGaymesFrollo and Mother Gothel when they're in a competition for worst parent: This is the thanks I get?
I was literally just thinking this the other day.
Love Frollo’s “Bend the Knee, Genuflect” referencing Prince Ali’s “Genuflect, show some respect, down on one knee”
Now I just want a Jafar verison..
I got that too but I wonder why
@@LantanaLizreal
Ay I noticed that too lol I wanted Jafar as one of the villains honestly lmao
If that was an intentional reference, it's probably in there because Aladdin is also themed around wishes (yk, the lamp)
“Complaining abt ur living but ur living without rent” IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN “I let you live here for free and I don’t even charge you rent”
You have terrible grammar but an amazing point XD
@@mattiekarwin3667 With all due respect- I ain’t hearing that from a Homestuck fan, LOL. Legit, even if we take troll typing quirks out of the equation, Dave hardly capitalizes or uses punctuation. 💀
@@abstractAnomaly...and? I'm a fan not a character from it. This is profiling XD

This was really great, but I feel like it's missing Gothel from Tangled. Her toxic gaslighting would be perfect for this
Yes me too it would be perfect
Gaston is missing too. They could have taken a lot of inspiration from him for Magnifico (worshipped by the town, and egotistical). Actually, now that I think about it, a blend of Jafar, Gaston, and Dr. Facilier would have made Magnifico amazing. Amaya could have been a blend of Gothel and Ursula.
She has a song like this that got cut from the movie! It was called "After all that I've done for you"
@gaelanwhite8842 Yes I agree. I was talking about his characterization in the movie as a whole.
@@katiehowell2537 Ngl Magnifico is extremely egotistical like Gaston, but Magnifico actually does his job while Gaston uses his fame to try and get Belle, and he's still the villain for a reason.
Literally these 4 rolling up to Magnifico and go "step aside kid, let the profesionals show how its done"
Also that line "What I am, you are not" is very fitting for these legends compared to Magnifico
he's not even a villian he finds out someone has access to magic that could just blow up his city panics and opens a book that forces him to be evil
Let them cook
And also, it was Judge Frollo, who is said to have the best villain song of all.
@@angelabelladomingo7641bc he does lmao
"What I am, you are not" - simple grammatically, but is so powerful, showing you are below him, instead of "i got these genes from outer space🤪🤪"
I can believe you turned such a bland song into a genuinely epic villain song, when Disney were saying Magnifico was a return to the classic villains this is the vibe I was hoping for. You even made the rent line better! Absolutely incredible.
The rent line got a redemption arc.
The idea that Disney thinks Magnifico in the movie is a return to classic villains is hilarious considering he's just a paranoid dude who basically got possessed by a book
@@moon4236The Care Bear movie literally did this type of villain a thousand times better, except it was a ruling kid that got possessed by a magic book
The irony of Disney's 100th anniversary movie being so poor that it's instead spent by fans improving on everything about it and actually celebrating animated Disney's legacy.
Maybe that was the plan all along!
They gave us the bones to build around from and now we can craft it in a way that We want to see it!
Task failed successfully?
That's what you get for making a movie for a specific date instead of letting it release when it's done.

"This is the thanks I get" but Caleb is a competent songwriter
Agreed
Actually grant steller is the instrumentalist, Lyricist, And Composer. Caleb is the singer
@@XXVelvetScottageXx Thank you for the correction
@@Florjb0rjTheFloorboard no problem
Damn lol
Highly paid songwriters on Disney payroll: "uh, let's add a rhyme about rent; kids love complaining about landlords".
Grant Steller on youtube: actually makes the rent lyric WORK.
I've actually heard it's really common for the film industry to do whatever possible to avoid paying people as much as they should be paid.
That kind of tells me that someone on staff wasn't paid enough to care about the music, like this is High Guardian Spice or something.
I agree! Though, this song was written by Grant Steller. 😊
Idk, I think it lost a lot of its impact without the setup. Just kinda feels tossed in
"Bend the knee "genuflect"
HELLO WHAT WHY IS THAT SO GOOD???
I actually found out that that line is based off "Prince Ali" from Aladdin:
*"Prince Ali, fabulous he, Ali Ababwa; Genuflect, show some respect, down on one knee"*
Now I just love that line even more!!
His lines are Godsent.
Bend the knee genuflect
I forgave, not forgot
Hear your king, pay your debt
What I am, you are not
i find it wholesome how 4 big great villains are trying too teach poor little magnifico how too be evil in 1 of 4 styles
doctor facilier: smooth jazzy evil
ursula: sassy bombastic evil
scar: greedy controlled evil
Frollo: complicated horrifying evil.
they'd still fail because Magnifico’s core is "help people be happy and grant wishes" lmao
I love how not just the music style, but the tempo and singing change too. It really feels like you’re trying to pull a song from all these movies and it’s awesome!
Unrelated, but I adore your pfp and name omg
i wouldn't say tempo, its more of the time signature, at least it's more evident in that area, but i agree:D
I love how everyone's shared headcannon is the older villains being disappointed by how This is The Thanks I Get turned out that they show King Magnifico how pros do it
If Disney doesn’t hire you as a villain character I’m suing
I would want to give the villain to Jon before Caleb. Granted, he does an excellent job, but imagine
Yeah right, good luck.
I second that!! XD
Well there’s still time
Yeah, however if he’s the voice actor, he probably won’t be making the lyrics.
I just thought I'd mention: Caleb's voice for Ursula was so convincing I didn't realize he was the one singing. It actually sounded incredibly close, well done!
I like to think each verse is a scene. The facilier verse is Magnifico speaking to a nobleman from the city, the day before wish-granting. Ursula verse is him looking out at the crowds feeling quite pissed off. He goes on stage, sings the Scar verse, and then as the Frollo verse begins, green tendrils of magical flame begin to rise around him
Someone should animate that. That would be amazing.
@@AliceDorthy agreed
@@Cheshire5174I second this
@@SSKJ64I third this
When he says “you ungrateful lot” in both the Dr. Facillier and Ursula parts sounds so good for no reason. They sound so disgusting and it’s brilliant.
omfg I got the BEST chills when Ursula's part came on! What a clever idea to incorporate each villain into their own verse, that's so rad!
a mother gothel version would also be pretty cool! since the reprise of mother knows best already had this kind of message in it, basically "i raised you and kept you locked in a tower, and this is how you thank me?" it's a very toxic mother sentiment lol.
We need her to sing "This is the Thanks I Get"! I think she'll do perfectly!
I love how they took "I don't even charge rent" and made it actually work. 😊
It just feels tossed in. No impact like in the movie. I thought that was one of the few solid lines in the entire soundtrack
@@sorin_markov That was one of the weaker ones in my opinion for sheer redundancy. “I let you live here for free and I don’t even charge you rent.” That’s the same thing. The entire soundtrack feels like an afterthought. Actually, the entire movie feels like an afterthought.
@@Tr4ns1st0r its because it was written by pop writers. the chorus is what the song focuses on, but thats not really how you write "i want" songs. the bridges are afterthoughts as writing a bridge is not what the writers are specialized in.
Finally. A real villain song
The fact that you took whatever the original one is and turned into THIS really shows Disney is paying the wrong people to do their job right 👏
That's assuming they even paid someone for that trash movie. Honestly it was most likely written by AI given how bad it is for a Disney song and movie. Usually their music is great. Even when it's "bad" it's Disney bad. And that's still normally far better than the competition.
I can't really blame them, from what i heard disney gave them a week and little to work with.
@@-ThatGuy- At this point I have convinced myself that the movie was in fact written by AI. Mostly because I refuse to believe actual functioning people with families and friends worked on that piece of crap and thought it was good enough to put on theatres
@@mythicalclouds5731 Jesus. If they're going to be that stingy with time - why bother doing the movie at all?? This is just an insult to the brand. I know it was meant to celebrate the anniversary but lets be honest here: if you have to choose between not celebrating your birthday and celebrating your birthday by hanging around a dumpster fire, skipping the celebration would be less disappointing.
Or, actually, they could have just done something smaller to celebrate their past movies. Hire the person who made the fantasia music video and let them do a new version that includes all the Disney movies. That's something that might actually have been possible to do great in the timeframe that they were working with so that the fans could have had something to really pull at the nostalgia and get everyone excited for future Disney movies, and Wish could have stayed in production a little longer until it was actually presentable.
You know it's impossible for it to be written by AI, right? Wish started development in 2018, years before ChatGPT existed. @@LizzieNya
Magnifico: (sings)
Dr. Facilier: Hold my cards
Ursula: Hold my potions
Scar: Hold my food
Frollo: Hold my rosary
Why is this so true?Magnifico is kinda of an interesting character but this music very meh-
How has nobody complemented the brilliant way all four of their unique villain songs were woven into this cover-in-name-only? If something like this was what got in the film, as someone who liked what we got in the final product, I would not be disappointed!
Ok, now please, just imagine with me, Starboy and Asha fighting Magnifico and Amaya, Amaya is defeated and can't fight, so Magnifico reads the final page on the book "if none of this works, try wishing on a star" and grabs Starboy, he drains his wish power and becomes a metamorphing king, Asha is devasted, Starboy is almost done and Magnifico IS FUCKING SINGING TAKING THE FORMS OF DISNEY VILLANS
I didn't expect this, but I love it! The personalized versions of This Is The Thanks I Get for different villains is so fascinating!! Kudos to Grant Steller for the lyrics!
I can only imagine how pissed the classic Disney characters are at the fall of their company.
The lines "I'm tired of the taunting. I'm done with disrespect! This journey will be daunting! So let me now reflect!" speaks SO MUCH coming from Scar.
I like to imagine that these four sat Magnifico down and decided to show him how it's done and I swear Scar sounds so done with Disney's crap and I love it XD
Amazing job!
"Complaining bout your living, yet your living without rent" is is much better than "and I don't even pay you rent!"
I love that everyone in the thumbnail is in the style of their movie, except Scar who's the 3d modell from Kingdom Hearts 2.
The KH 2 modells were made so darn competently that this happens quite often. Even at art colleges you can find the disney characters being represented with their KH 2 models
@@Rustyhound-Cartoons Yeah, I've also seen modells from KH2 used quite often and I think that's really cool. Especially for Simba and Mufasa. I think that's one of the things that show with how much respect Square Enix treats Disney properties.
Although Scar's modell looks kinda goofy in because of the way his jaw is modelled. XD
Like Tim Curry, you elevate anything you’re in.

Ooh I love the Prince Ali song reference here!
This is ENCHANTING! The singing style, the instrumental... Their different moods... Now THIS feels like a true villain song!
This is exactly what "This is the Thanks I get" should have been! The intimidating tone, the superior lyrics, and the homages to other iconic Disney villain songs! This would have improved Wish so much, right down to complementing the references to other Disney movies. Imagine "I Make This Wish" in the style of other "I want" songs.
That’d be interesting. I actually feel like having "This Wish" being done in a way paying tribute to Mulan (1998), Moana, Hercules, and Beauty & The Beast (1993) could be interesting, since the "I Want" song and villain song are two of the most important songs in a Disney movie, and since "This Is The Thanks I Get" chose The Princess & The Frog, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, it would’ve been best if Disney tried to have each of Wish’s songs pay tribute to some classic Disney songs from each movie.
This is how Disney SHOULD'VE done the villain song for Wish! This is perfection in every way possible!
I have sketched four little "storyboards" for each section as animatic ideas and MIGHT one day try. I'd make each transition a door opening to a new location (the first he is in the tower with the wishes, the second he's at the table thingy, third he enters a hallway with the guards being the ensemble voices, and finally he ends with having grabbed the book from some locked away room deep in the castle)
I love that you put "live without rent" in the song, and actually made it work!
I thought this was just gonna be a cover of the actual song with other villain's voices, but it's so much better than the original.
Love the Ursula one. Captures what they were going for while doing it better.
See? This is what the original villain song should’ve been: have a good soundtrack, catchy lyrics, all the stuff we know Disney did well back then.
Usala: " Walk a mile in MY shoes"
Meanwhile, Usala not wearing shoes.
You know it’s a phrase right.
@@fritzy8318 yep, thought it be funny to point it out.
This makes me miss being not sick because I loved shout-singing this song when I needed to vent out my frustrations
Ursula saying “walk a mile in my shoes” kind of made me laugh.
I love Wish, but I admit it's very lacking, so I love how the fandom is just like, "Yeah, let's actually make this good."
It’s already gud tho
I like it, too. It’s not great, but it’s still good.
It has so mainy good ideas that are so rushed and unfinished (great job there Disney). I also just really dont think they should have gotten pop song writers to write narrative driven songs. they are not in the same league and it's sad cuz the line "this is the thanks I get" is actually sooo good for a villain song it just wasnt used properly XD
@@AW-ee8fhI honestly think that out of all of the villains songs, Magnifico’s should’ve been more like friends on the other side or Be Prepared, they are both energetic but not so much that they sound lackluster. And they should’ve kept the old plot of him being genuinely evil with his equally as evil wife. I love Magnifico, but not in the way Disney intended. He is not the villain, the book was. He literally wasn’t evil enough so Disney had to make him be possessed by some random spell book.
Okay so I saw the movie as much as I would love they used the concepts for it I like it but there a line in the song that makes go hmm and that be "I don't charge you rent" in my mind I went ' but aren't your people's wishes the rent?'
"Fine, I'll do it myself"
-Disney fans
Frollo's part was actually insane
Love how you did the instrumentals in the styles of each villain's respective song.
This is awesome! I love the creative spin on shaking it up with other villains.
A future cover I would LOVE is “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” from the underrated film Cats Don’t Dance! Jonathan and Anna and Cami could all join and it would be stellar!
Me after listening to the original song: THIS IS THE VILLAIN SONG WE GET?!
Me after listening to this remaster: _p e r f e c t i o n_
Perfect. No notes. Six seasons and a movie.
I love the crescendo from style to style. It fits so much not only the villains themselves but also Magnifico himself who, in the movie, goes from a funny megalomaniac to a dangerous psychopath during the story: mostly because during the verses, we go from amusing villains to terrifying villains
-Facilier: He wants power for power and is evil 'cause it's good to be evil
-Ursula: She wants power for revenge and uses people to get her goals
-Scar: He wants power 'cause he is jealous of his brother and is ready to kill his own family to have it
-Frollo: He is a killer, a wicked destroyer who takes advantages of the fact that he has the most important function of the city to destroy what and who he doesn't understand.
Fun fact: all those villains have common things. 'The Little Mermaid', 'The Lion King' and 'The Hunchbach of Notre Dame' have been directed during Disney Renaissance.
'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Princess and the frog' have been directed by Musker and Clements.
In 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Hunchbach of Notre Dame', the songs have been composed by Alan Menken.
In the french versions of 'The Lion King' and 'The Hunchbach of Notre Dame', Scar and Frollo are dubbed by the same voice actor, Jean Piat (who is deceased in 2018).
I can vividly picture how Ursula is moving as she's singing.

“If you want a job done right, you gotta do it yourself.”
That was the original message of Wish
Now THIS is a villain song!!
“This is the thanks I get” if its sung by Caleb, who is an amazing voice actor and makes the song actually good.
I’ve have heard the whole song, this is amazing, it shows you that it’s from wish but it’s also not idiotic lines that represent the two same things “I let you live here for free and I don’t make you pay rent” but the lines still represents the same as the old ones with; “discontent […] yet your living without rent”

I think the thing wrong with the orginal song is that it doesn't feel grand enough, it just sounds like every other pop song when it's supose to sound like an opera song
Each part is different, but it blends together so well it really could feature in an animated musical. I never saw Wish, but I saw a breakdown of this song (the original version), and this is so much better it might as well be a different song altogether. Congrats, Caleb!
