It’s wonderful that the text was provided to you by his grandson. It is rather reminiscent of the many unabridged texts that were gathered by Nightshade Books for the Clark Ashton Smith anthologies. Your labor is much appreciated to bring this story to sound, Ian. And thank you Jeff for the generous contribution.
One of the few times someone got what they wanted, and it didn't kill them or drive them insane
That is a great thing, to help someone preserve his heritage, and to share a lesser known talent. Given how long ago this was published, you may have doubled or tripled (or more) the number of living souls to have "read" this story. This is no small thing, this post. Well done.
“Then he returned to the sepulchre, and using his spade as a lever, sought to pry up the slab lying nearest to a stony ruin which may have been a monument in its day.”
Keep up the good work and, as always, stay safe!
Being Middle Eastern, I enjoy when writers include the djinn in supernatural tales.
Good stuff. 👍🏼
Not a middle eastern, but I would to love to listen native stories from that area and others.
Assyriologist, I am a huge fan of djinn and other traditional or even ancient stories too (when done right - like this) 🌌
Interesting that they are combining imagery of Star of David, King Solomon (Hebrew), with Arabian imagery and Djinn.
Did you know that there is a group of middle eastern scholars of folklore who do videos here on UA-cam about Lovecraft? I think it's Mysterious Middle East.
Horrorbabble! The perfect thing to kick back, relax to and have a tantalizing tale of terror told to you. Thanks for the great work as always Ian!
Facts
What a great story. Usually myhos stories that involve SW-Asia are very orientalist, but this one truly stands out. Not just a great story, but also a wonderfully respectful adaptation of the RL source material. 🖤
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to hear more like these. 🌌
Yeah. Re: Cosmic Horror... this one nails it.
For those who may wish to know such things and their strange place in this world, the seal of Solomon was used in conjunction often with the star of David - formerly known as the star of moloch, devourer of children.
This is such a classic mythos story. All the elements are there.
What an amazingly unique story. The Djinn, Kabbalah, King Solomon, and the lovecraftian horror of interdimensional entities and the revelation of horrible truths.
This story has it all, even the mocking way the entity bows is so creepy and malevolent and cool to read.
A very underrated tale.
I rather like that this ended so quietly and neatly, leaving the reader to muse on whether Halpin might not be mad at all
My Tentacles approve this 💀❤️
Excellent story🤗. It's late after work and I'm eating an icecream as I listen to this. By the way; I never would have opened that jar. I believe that if we had all the answers we would loose our minds....or maybe we already have...
Your narration, Ian is so perfect, you display the emotions so accurately, sentiently. This is why I love this channel.
[A] small chamber wherein is displayed a model of the entire universe - together with a microscopic dot on a microscopic dot bearing the legend 'you are here.' - only well before The Hitchhiker's Guide.
A beautiful piece of weird prose, a real joy to hear. Kudos to the grandson who saved his cool grandpas work from obscurity. Very sweet gesture.
Be careful what you wish for.
Thank you, Ian!
Warren isn’t dead. But he took a wrong turn in the London Underground and is lost in a section closed off since the 1940s. At least that’s what he can tell from the yellowed newspapers and vintage posters. The crackling swing music playing distantly from some unseen source indicates it too. Something is also following him.
What a show! No one spoils my need of right proper cosmic horror as you guys at horrorbabble, thanks yet again Mr. Gordon
"Let me tell you about that race of beings who caused so much destruction in the ancient world, that a magical king sealed them all away. And while we're at it, let me also free one of those beings in order to satisfy my curiosity. What could go wrong???" - Halpin
Cool little occult adventure.
Ah a perfect cure for the holiday blues. Help me escape for a bit.
Very nice story! This is the advantage of literature: You can hint the horror without having to describe it.
Interesting that the story checks the Kabbalah. Been listening to Esoterica and tracking some parallels
I'm enjoying these stories I'm hearing for the first time thank you for sharing.
Oh, I see.
Holy hell that ending was fantastic! Thank you Ian!
Well done Mr.Gordon and Horror Babble. Well done. Excellent story and narration. Thank you. Until next time.
Excellent story, I was on the edge of my seat! So glad this little gem was preserved and brought to light again!
I'm so glad this was sent in, its excellent!
Thanks Jeff❤
My baby Night Gaunt always seems to love hearing these stories with me
I guess the guy didn't need any more money
I enjoyed this one immensely, thanks to everyone that made that possible. Such a smooth tale, needs savoring.
All I can say is WOW!!!😳
Reminds me somewhat of the effects of the Total Perspective Vortex.
Thanks for a wonderful tale. I'd never heard of this one so it was doubly a treat.
Superb story. Always leaves me so intrigued these "forbidden knowledge" tales!

Also thank you Jeff!!!
Certainly captures the spirit of the genre!.

Certainly captures the spirit of the genie!
Thanks for the wonderful story!
Maybe what he saw in that picture was what a dead man playing strange songs once saw out of a window in the top floor of the last tall building in the Rue D'Auseil...
I'd like to think that.
I really liked this one. Thank you!
Hehe fantastic. Thanks again Ian
Absolutely outstanding thanks Ian!😎👍🏻
WOW!! What a Wonderful story Thank you for bringing it to us
re: the way that this channel recalls to mind S.T.Joshi's analysis of Lovecraftian literature (Joshi is the modern preeminent Lovecraftian scholar) is exceptional-
The horrorbabble youtube chanel is, IMHO, an example of editorial quality on par with STJ, in its programs and scholorship.
Great stuff... great reading.
That was an amazing story and wonderful narration 👍 Thank you Ian 🙂
Wonderful tale! Thank you for passing it on to us!
Excellent reading of a rare gem. 💎
Thanks for another marvelous Mythos story.
I didn't know this one, lovely for going to bed and dwelling in another world.👍🏻
Absolutely marvelous story! Thank you!
Ahoy Horror Babble . Where does " you fool Warren is dead " come from ? Thankyou for all your work. Just going to settle down and enjoy 🙏
Wow! Really liked this one. The style fleece was so well and the concept! Wow
This was exceptional. Thank you!
Good short story, and well read as always.
An outstanding tale
THANK YOU IAN ,I CAN ALWAYS RELY ON YOU 🥸👍
At least the djinn wasn't the 2019 Disney version. He would've just slapped Halpin and disappeared! 😊
What a horror story!!! I love your stories!
Thank you, that was a fine tale ❤, your voice is mesmerising 😀
This is an incredible story that really goes to the core of cosmic horror, imo. It is able to impress upon the reader the indescribable/unnameable in a way reminiscent of (dare I say it?) Lovecraft in some of his best- 'Nayrlathotep', the Dream Cycle, etc...
(In a way, it echos my own ontological qualia, reminds me of the possible desolation of eunni, at some times long past, thankfully)
🖤 *DELIGHTFUL AS ALWAYS* 🖤
Another 'warning to the curious' yet can it be helped?! "oh... I see" and being lost in the seeing, or found. While a mental institutions of society note that there is yet another person who has grown, beyond its so-called sanity, insane or... useless and devour him while he is out of its reach. A wonderful description of the moment of crossing over, eager yet unprepared, the seeing in relation to what was left behind.
Sweet
This is an excellent story. I really like this one and have to check out more of the author's work.
I may repeat those words this evening. Nothing bad could happen, right?
Thanks!
What a nice tidy little FAFO story 😁
So Disney really skipped over the part that Genie is a complete demon!🤭🤭🤭
Yelp" like Hebrew false god, A jinn' na' - boltzmann's brain. Carried in largest dibbic box' known. Ark of covenant. 👺
Isaac Asimov selected Tanner's science fiction story "Tumithak of the Corridors"(1932) in his series of anthologies of science fiction from the 1920s and 1930s. This is a better story in my opinion.
❤
Not bad at all and good ending.
This story made me eat a lawn gnome
Eyy
Oh like GENIE!!!!…DJINN,that is demon…got it!…
Be careful what ye wish for...
❤🔥
I practice and have a couple variations of The Keys Of Solomon so this was especially interesting to me and fun! I wonder if the author was an Occultist or practioner of Solomonic Magick. To those interested, look up The Goetia (72 Demons that were put into a brass vessel and cast into the sea), a part of The Lesser Keys Of Solomon.
(Solomon's wisdom) Boltzmann brain' - truth stranger than fiction. Though the only vessal it contains itself in, is us'. Every'body's, a puppet.
Marmite isn't that bad is it?
To this day, I still haven't sampled it.
😊
❤😂🎉
If he just listened to his wife he could keep avoiding church.
If I ever find a djinn I'm just asking for money. Something simple, no extra wishes or anything else clever like that.

Imagine if it was revealed to a heifer that she had been born and raised only to be slaughtered and eaten.
The author's lack of basic knowledge of the lore he is abusing is cringe. It's the Star of David, not Solomon's Seal, and it is mainstream Jewish while Kabbals are literally Satanists. It is actually so common that its appearance means nothing, it is even the symbol on currency in both ancient and modern Israel. And the idea that someone could mistake Hebrew writing for Greek is silly, no matter how amateur they are. Also, Hebrew, Arabian Nights, and Phoecician religion have nothing in common. Solomon does not appear in Arabian legends, and he ruled the whole of the Levant and perhaps more, not some small province.
I was wondering if anyone else was going to mention the clear description of the Star of David.
The Arabian Nights mention was about knowing what a djinn was.
Wow, almost every single word of what you just said was wrong.
Hmm very bleak and cynical, particularly since many had glimpses of humanities mysteries.
