    Question: I used option number 5, which I connected the satellite to the Orbi Router directly via Ethernet, but since I have a secondary satellite (because I purchase the version of two satellites), I connected the second satellite to the first satellite via backhaul and works, but the issue I’m facing is that I am experiencing slower speeds on the second satellite. So you can have an idea, my internet speed is 500mbps which the router and satellite #1 is reaching without any problem, but the second satellite is reaching 80 to 90mbps. Any clue why I am getting slower speeds on my second satellite?

  • @son21387

    at 4:45 time stamp of your video, you mentioned if your ISP provides more than 1 GIGabit of speed, than you would need to hook up additional ethernet cable from your modem to the second port on the main orbi router ?
    I have 1,200 MBPS of speed from my ISP. THE AX4200 RKB752 system, on the main dedicated WAN internet port, only supports up to 1 gigabit of speed. ARe you suggesting I need to hook up second ethernet cable from my modem to the second ethernet port on the main orbi router to get access to the remaining speed ?

      Your modem needs to support it as well but here's an article that applies to the RBK752 among many other models:

    When I Google this, all I see is old info. I bought a three unit system about four months ago with RBR and RBS 750’s. Does this system simultaneously transmit both 2.4 and 5 GHz from each device as needed by the attached device?? Old info says no, but when I look at my network map on the app and at the devices on each, I see both frequency devices attached to each ORBI as needed. If that is the case, then I don’t really need to designate my networks as either 2.4G and 5G. Just trying to understand and simplify my thinking.

    How do I disable the bridge on the modem?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  Рік тому +2

      By enabling bridge mode, you disable the router portion of the modem. Assuming the modem has a built-in router, if it doesn't, you don't need to do anything. If the modem has a built-in router, you would need to go to the settings (usually an ip address or site that you can find on the sticker of the modem) once you go there, there should be a few options there. Either enable bridge mode or disable the router.

    I had trouble setting up my wired back off today so I had to go with wireless.
    I have a router modem combo that I cannot put in bridge mode for various reasons.
    I was trying to hook the Orbi up to the router /modem and then run wired back haul but it just won’t work.
    My assumption is the router /modem is assigning an IP address to the satellite that the orbi router is not expecting thus the orbi can’t find the wired back haul .
    The satellites are not connected directly to the Orbi. They are connected to data drops in other rooms . Those data drops go back to a network switch which is connected to the router modem combo.
    So far the wireless backhaul seems to be working fine but I’m trying to work out a solution to get the wire backhaul working while running two networks.

    I’m sorry if this is addressed in the video and I just didn’t understand it…we built a house out in the country and there are zero internet providers in our area. Therefore we have to use a mobile hotspot for our internet. We’ve been using a Netgear Nighthawk but this looks like more of what we need as they can be linked and expand coverage. My question is this…our service is provided by AT&T via a SIM card in our Nighthawk…does this system work that way? Can it use a SIM card to connect to the internet though AT&T or does it need an actual internet service like Spectrum?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      So that's a great question. This does not accept a SIM card, this thing needs internet like Spectrum to connect to it however I believe (it's been a while since I've used this) this can operate in "Access Point Mode", (I know some of the TP Link Deco's (X55, XE75, etc) and the ASUS ET8 can) which means you can connect it to your netgear nighthawk and run this in access point mode which will take the signal from the nighthawk and expand it. Hope this helps!

    I live on a property near a friend's primary residence, about 250 yds away from a modem that I can't connect to as it only has a weak two-bar signal. If I buy this combo do I simply plug one into the existing router and the other into my home via a power source?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      That’s probably a bit far.. if there is absolutely nothing in between your two homes or very little, then you can try it. You could also try a more powerful mesh WiFi like the Netgear Orbi RBKE963. There’s something else entirely you can try called a wireless bridge point to point. You can just get a regular router or mesh WiFi at that point and plug it to this thing. This wireless bridge works for line of sight, meaning no objects in between.

    @landpet I have ziply fios, so I get network in as input to my main network hub in my home and I have bunch of network ports at various rooms with a switch in between. The fios device is in the garage. Not sure if it's a modem. In the cable box. Can I connect these devices to these network ports on walls and get wired back haul setup?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 роки тому +1

      Typically fios has something called an ONT. That's similar to my current setup which is in the garage. I go from that ONT to my router then I have an ethernet going from my router to a switch and to the satellite from there. Assuming the ethernet is going through all the rooms, then it would be considered wired backhaul

    Do you know if it is possible to power the RBR850 with POE? Do Not use the 110v plug.
    Do you also know if you can use a POE switch to power the satellite’s rbs850. I can’t seem to get a straight answer yes or no. If I need to use a 110 plug for the RBR850 that is fine… I am more looking to power the satellites with POE.
    Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      I don't know the answer to that question but I would assume you cannot power router or satellite with PoE. Seems like they would take quite a bit of power for the wifi signal itself among other things.

    Hi is thanks a lot of have two questions please:
    1- I have 4 linksys velop/ with a wired back haul for a 3 bedroom villa . The one at the top bedroom keeps dropping. So I changed the placement of the router and so noticed the furthest one keeps dropping. This made me conclude that the signal even though through the wires is weak as I checked and determinate then cables . no other explanation I could think of. Thoughts ?
    2- The Velop requires a “star” topology. Can the Orbi support a “daisy chain” topology and hopefully this might solve the issue of long wires ?
    Any other solution you can think of?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      No problem!
      1. Check your firmware is the same across all Velops and that they are all up to date. Check the Ethernet cables are pushed in all the way. Check that the Ethernet cable works fine by plugging a laptop to it for a day or two to see if it disconnects randomly if you don’t have a network analyzing tool.
      2. Orbi should handle star or daisy from what I’ve seen. I only have the 2 pack for this but I do have the RBKE963 and that does daisy or star. I’m surprised velop only does star.

    Hey Mr. LanPet - very good set up coverage. One Q: i just upgraded and installed a new orbi two piece wifi just as you show in the video. I upgraded from an Arris 3.0 modem/router to a CM1200 Nighthawk modem only and hooked to my Orbi -wfi is excellent. However original config included a GS108 v4 Netgear switch with 4 hardwired Ethernet connections in my house to PCs and TVs.But since replacing Arrris and hooking up Orbis the wifi is faster than the ethernet direc connects . What gives??

      Is your switch hooked up to a node that’s on wireless backhaul? Maybe your devices like your PC and TVs support better WiFi speeds and are capped to 100Mbps for Ethernet. Could be a number of things

    My current wifi mesh system Asus ZenWifi xt8 (1 Router + 2 Satellites). My ISP has provided with a Modem/Router as a single unit. So, have to use the built-in router. So, what I did was , I put the Asus xt8 router in Router mode, with " Static IP", taking its own WAN IP from the ISP Router, and using its OWN LAN IPs with its OWN DHCP. . I tried using them with Wireless backhaul, but got dropped speeds at the mesh point to about 200 mbps. But now I have connected them with "Wired Backhaul". But Still, the MAX throughput seems to be around 500 mbps @ 10 ft from the Mesh point. Please let me know what's your take on the issue with so much drop in speed inspite of " Wired Backhaul". Do you think if I change to something like the Netgear Orbi RBK 853 will sort the speed issue ?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 роки тому

      If it works then great but I don't know your exact setup with your settings. You mentioned modem, is it possible a modem/router combo? Are you using a managed switch? A router uses DHCP to assign IP addresses to devices, so the switch would need to connect to the router so then the other ports available from the switch would be usable with valid local network IP Addresses. Now if you have a modem/router combo, it can use that as well because it's still a router.
      I guess the question is, what are you trying to do? If your current setup works fine, then no need to change anything unless something is missing.

    Using only ethernet cables, are the two obvious methods of connecting the router to the satellites supported: parallel and series? "Parallel" would be each satellite cable connected to the router. Series would be sequential router cable connected to satellite 1, then satellite 1 cable connected to satellite 2. If all devices are wifi connected, is the mesh logic also parallel (devices equidistant to one another) and/or serial (devices mounted in linear fashion at differing distances)? Would satellite2 furthest from the router exhibit degraded performance or is it actually getting data stream from satellite 1 instead?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 роки тому

      If satellite 2 is "hopping" from Satellite 1 to get to the main router then yes it will degrade. If possible, try placing the router in the center so both satellites connect to it

I'm sure that the wifi hub Sky provides doesn't allow me to disable the router function & therefore I'm weary about ending up with two networks with IP conflicts etc. What would you recommend? I have the Gateway router/modem combo from AT&T. I successfully connected this system last night but I am getting the same speeds. I believe it’s because I didn’t “bridge” and turned off wifi capabilities. Can you tell you how to do that? Do I go to the AT&T modem/router settings or the Orbi settings to do that? It’s frustrating because it seems like I’m getting the same speeds because both wifis are on.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      The easiest thing to do is to call ATT and ask them but typically there's a sticker on your existing modem with an IP address or some other address that allows you to go-to to access it's settings to then disable the router by putting it in bridge mode.

    Great explanation. I am looking to upgrade from my Google Wifi to a wiFi6 system and your videos have been really helpful. I don't think I'll be going with Orbi due to having to pay for the parental control aspect, but I am considering some others in that category. The configuration that I currently have wasn't addressed in this video, but it might be that my setup is not the most common. I currently have a structured wiring box that houses all of my networking hardware and other equipment. I would like to know how I should set up my mesh once I upgrade. Hopefully, I won't have to redo too much, but I think I might based on your explanation. Current setup is as follows. Modem TO -----> TP-Link TL-R600VPN SafeStream Gigabit Multi-WAN Desktop VPN Router TO -----> TP-Link TL-SG108 8-Port Gigabit Switch. Three of the ethernet jacks in the home come off of the router. The fourth ethernet jack comes off of the switch. If I install a mesh system, will I need to replace the 4 port router with the router from the mesh system, or will I be able to connect that new mesh router to one of the ethernet jacks in the home? Thanks again for all of your videos!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks! The simple answer is that since you have Google WiFi, you can wire your new mesh the same way your existing google WiFi is wired. You may need to run the mesh WiFi in “Access Point Mode” for it to be on the same primary network as your existing tp link router since your existing tp link router has its own NAT.
      You could also just replace your existing tp link router with the new mesh (keeping the mesh in router mode) with the following style:
      Modem->new mesh router->switch->new mesh nodes.

      @@landpet Thank you for the quick reply! I am not a techie by any means so a lot of this is somewhat of a different language to me. I was hoping I could keep the existing setup as it is because having to try and fit the new WiFi router in that box wouldn't work as it will be much bigger than my TP-Link router. I am glad to know that there is an option to run the mesh system in "Access Point Mode" to avoid the double Nat issue I've had in the past. I hope that part is something that is easily done without having to call a professional. Thank you for all of the information and for your help!

    1. In case you have the 3 pack (Router + 2 Satellites), is it possible to connect one satellite via ethernet backhaul and the second one wirelessly? If so, is that still recommended over just connecting both wirelessly or both via ethernet?
    2. Another thing which I need to clarify is whether I can connect a repeater (any brand) to the network of the Orbi because I need an ethernet access in my basement. The speeds there wouldn't necessarily matter as no other device is connected there. Currently I am having the wifi of my ISP modem which also is a router on just for that specific repeater, no other device would use the wifi network of my modem. I have heard it is better to turn off the modem wifi to not have overlaying networks. I also don't necessarily want to have another satellite just for that one ethernet port in my basement due to the costs of another satellite. What would you recommend to do for this scenario?
    Thanks!

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 роки тому

      1. Yes you can mix and match wired and wireless. Wired everywhere is always preferred. The more you can wire the better.
      2. I personally wouldn’t use your router from your modem. I would recommend another satellite or just place a satellite closer and you will most likely get a signal even if not very fast. You can also try one of those Netgear repeaters but I personally don’t use them. I like having my mesh WiFi to be the same throughout so I will get good signal throughout. I would rather get a less expensive system like the to link deco x20 just to get another node that’s the same then get an Orbi set and use a non Orbi. If you’re going wired, deco x20 will work great.

So basically I would connect one of them via Ethernet to the LAN port of my modem router so I can have an Ethernet port available in my basement over powerline.

      I don't know how your ethernets through your walls are connected. If it's ethernet cables going throughout your place, make sure they are all connected to your switch. Ethernet typically doesn't split unless there is a switch or something, so maybe you only have one ethernet jack connected throughout your wall and on the other side, the TV is using it. But the other ports are probably not connected on one side, so when you connect them on the other side, it's just an unconnected ethernet cable. This is my best guess based on the information you've provided. Hopefully that helps.

    Does the modem and orbi router have to be in the same room. Can I connect with a 50ft Cat6 cable? Will that slow down anything? Also, is the satellite a wifi access even if I am using the Ethernet ports? Thanks!

      Orbi and modem do not have to be in the same room so as long as there is an Ethernet connection between them. Should be fine with a 50 ft cable, shouldn't be a slow down. Satellite can provide access via its wifi antennas and through its Ethernet.

    Great video , I have an AT&T Uverse Router/Modem, I assume we hook up Orbi's router to my AT&T router/modem and disable the "router" functionality" of the router/modem? Thanks for your time.

    I have RBK353. Can I have one satellite wired to the router and the other one in Wifi mode? Also, does the wired one has to be setup via the router or does the router detect it automatically?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  3 роки тому

      Yes you can have one wired and one wireless. You just add it in the app.

    Hi, very clear with your explanation. Just a question. Im going to buy a rbk753 kit orbi wifi 6. I will have 1 base and 2 satellites; can i wire only base and ONE satellite?
    In my case: ground floor-internet wired to base, and base wired to a switch (it go in all rooms)
    First floor: 1st satellite NOT wired with ethernet
    Second floor: 2nd satellite wired with ethernet backhaul.
    Do you think everything would work correctly, or should i have all satellites wired (not 1 yes and 1 no) ?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, you can mix and match wired and wireless backhaul so that will work just fine

      @@landpet thanks for reply! How does Satellite on first floor (not wired) communicate with base (wired, ground floor) and 2nd satellite (wired backhaul eth, 2nd floor)? Only with base or also with upper satellite via third band (if connection with base at ground floor go bad)?

    great explanation- any ideas on how to deal with the rbr750 dropping connections and not connecting to 5g when devices are well within range? thanks

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      Thanks, check for firmware updates, aside from that it may just be a software bug or you may have a faulty unit. Best to ask Netgear for something like that

      @@landpet thank you for the reply- my system is still in warranty but out of tech support contract so they made me purchase a 3-month support contract to trouble shoot- took them 1.5 hours and eventually we rolled back the firmware two versions- we'll see if that helps.

    Wow epic vid, but ive got a question
    If you got a virgin media router, and you usually use that. And want to get this.
    Would u use the virgin media router as the modem
    And also i pay a monthly fee for that internet with virgin, would i still have to pay it if i make it into a modem or can i cancel that plan

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks. You need a modem or ONT or something similar to provide internet access. So if your virgin media router is a modem/router combo, you would need to use it but would disable the router portion of it by going to the settings and disabling it or placing it in bridge mode. You need to still pay for internet access assuming you wanted internet access.

    This is a great video thanks for the lesson. This might sound like a dumb question but if I have my satellites in different rooms (the are currently connected wirelessly) how do I connect them via Ethernet cable? I don’t want to see a long cable just running from room to room. Is there another way?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  2 роки тому

      Most people run cables inside the walls, so it's not exactly an easy solution therefore wireless backhaul is the easy solution. This thing actually provides fairly good wireless backhaul speeds, you can also go with the absurdly expensive Netgear Orbi RBKE963 and that one works very well with wireless backhaul also.
