Why did he a abandon the Coronation ceremony?
It obvious.....Jesus and the Apostles lived and preached a simple life, not a life of color, show, majesty, color & pomp. You need to remember that for many centuries, the Pope was both a head of Government/Kind of the Papal States and also head of the Church. As head of Papal States, he has armies and led many wars, so he pretty much behaved like any other King of those times. Many Popes in History were also VERY evil: murderers, fonicators, adulterer, swindlers, conspirators, etc....
It was his predecessor Pope Paul VI who placed the papal crown upon the altar and vowed never to wear it again; all of his successors followed suite.
@@greenvisage9117 Paul VI pointedly did NOT legislate against the Coronation ceremony - how could he, since a successor could simply change the ceremony back. It’s been the tedious process of modernization that has deprived the Church of all its external splendor.
