About 60 kms away from the industrious city of Mangalore is the peaceful hamlet, Udupi. Located here is a quaint matha of Lord Sri Krishna, a holy place for thousands of devotees who throng here to shower love on their favourite lord. The idol of Lord Krishna sits here in child like innocence. Swathed in fragrant garlands and brilliant gold-lined garments, the beatific idol casts a spell of happiness the moment you set your eyes on it. Devotees who visit the Sri Krishna Matha, strongly believe that faith and sacredness get redefined within the confines of this ashram.
The Krishna Matha was founded by the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhwacharya in the 13th century. He was the founder of the Dvaita school of Vedanta. It is believed that Madhwacharya found the idol of SriKrishna in a large ball of gopichandana.As told by Sri Madhwacharya in his TANTRASARA SANGRAHA the Idol is placed Pashimabhimukha. All the other idols in other Ashta mutts are facing Western side as well.
In the 16th century, during Sri Vaadiraja 's rule, Kanakadasa, an ardent believer of God, came to Udupi to worship Lord Krishna. He was not allowed inside the temple since he was from a lower caste. Sri Krishna, pleased by the worship of Kanakadasa created a small hole in the back wall of the temple and turned to face the hole so that Kanakadasa could see him. This hole came to be known as KanakanaKindi.

You need to take higher authority permissions if you take cameras .
